Reekie_Red Posted December 31, 2009 Report Posted December 31, 2009 As the decade comes to an end, we've already been chipping in with our "Team Of The Decade" on another thread. It's been quite easy to pick a team of the decade as the real shining lights of AFC are pretty unanymous. However, do you think you can create a Shittest Team Of The Decade? The rules are you can ONLY select one player, one moment, and one starting-eleven for the below categories. This is gonna be tough! Worst Aberdeen Player of the Decade: Worst homegrown player: Worst signing: Worst goalkeeper: Worst defender: Worst midfielder: Worst forward: Worst manager: Pick your worst starting XI from the decade: Worst Game of the Decade: Biggest single disappointment of the decade: Quote
Reekie_Red Posted December 31, 2009 Author Report Posted December 31, 2009 I'll start ... Worst Aberdeen Player of the Decade: Got to be Zdrillic. Never has so much hope drained away so quickly. Utterly disappointing Worst homegrown player: Darren Mackie - there's been a few, but how four sets of managers have seen an SPL quality in him, I'll never know! Worst signing: Tommy Wright Worst goalkeeper: Bertrand Bossu Worst defender: Jamie McQuilken Worst midfielder: Scott Muirhead Worst forward: Bryan Prunty Worst manager: Steve Paterson Pick your worst starting XI from the decade: Bossu; McQuilken, Rutkiewicz, Solberg, Lilley; Muirhead, Darren Young, Thornley, Fabiano; Prunty, Zdrillic Worst Game of the Decade: Sigma Olumuc at Pittodrie Biggest single disappointment of the decade: Not a single trophy to add to the cabinet Quote
Jute Posted December 31, 2009 Report Posted December 31, 2009 Worst Aberdeen Player of the Decade: David Bus Worst homegrown player: So many to choose from...................Muirhead Worst signing: David Bus Worst goalkeeper: Bossu Worst defender: David Bus Worst midfielder: Derek Young Worst forward: Wright Worst manager: Pele Pick your worst starting XI from the decade: Bossu McQuilken Bus Lilley Grassi Muirhead Derek Young Tiernan Fabiano Blaha Wright Worst Game of the Decade: Queen of the South, Queens Park or Sigma games are all still sore points but there have been others I am sure that drink has now thankfully blanked from my mind. Vaugely remember a 6-1 humping from Livi for example. Biggest single disappointment of the decade: Same as original thread no trophies. Quote
glasgowdon Posted December 31, 2009 Report Posted December 31, 2009 Worst Aberdeen Player of the Decade: David Bus Worst homegrown player: So many to choose from...................Muirhead Worst signing: David Bus Worst goalkeeper: Bossu Worst defender: David Bus Worst midfielder: Derek Young Worst forward: Wright Worst manager: Pele Pick your worst starting XI from the decade: Bossu McQuilken Bus Lilley Grassi Muirhead Derek Young Tiernan Fabiano Blaha Wright Worst Game of the Decade: Queen of the South, Queens Park or Sigma games are all still sore points but there have been others I am sure that drink has now thankfully blanked from my mind. Guest ally s Posted December 31, 2009 Report Posted December 31, 2009 Worst Aberdeen Player of the Decade: Fabiano Worst homegrown player: Richard Buckley Worst signing: Fabiano Worst goalkeeper: Bossu Worst defender: Bus Worst midfielder:Fabiano Worst forward:Bird Worst manager: Paterson Pick your worst starting XI from the decade: Bossu Payne Buckley Bus McQuilken Fabiano Tiernan Winter Muirhead Bird Stewart Worst Game of the Decade: 7-0 humping off Celtic Biggest single disappointment of the decade: Not winning a trophy Quote
Kowalski Posted December 31, 2009 Report Posted December 31, 2009 Worst homegrown player: Darren Mackie - there's been a few, but how four sets of managers have seen an SPL quality in him, I'll never know! What a contradiction in terms that is. He's our worst homegrown player but four managers have seen quality in him? I think you are forgetting some of the real shockers we've brought through only for them to end up at Peterhead or Inverurie Locos. Quote
Harcus Posted December 31, 2009 Report Posted December 31, 2009 What a contradiction in terms that is. He's our worst homegrown player but four managers have seen quality in him? Nor were we the fourth best team in Scotland last season. Quote
baggy89 Posted December 31, 2009 Report Posted December 31, 2009 If Carlsberg set questions with so many correct answers to choose from... Worst Aberdeen Player of the Decade: Thornley Worst homegrown player: Ross O'Donoghue? Scott Muirhead?? Scott Morrison??? Jon Stewart? David Donald?? Worst signing:Did we not pay £50k for Byrne? Although we also paid money for McQuilken and Lee Hinds. Tommy Wright has to be up there. Worst goalkeeper:Bossu Worst defender: Dan Smith Worst midfielder: Jamie Winter Worst forward: Stephen Craig Worst manager: Pele. Although (just for MiniJC) statistically it's McGhee. Pick your worst starting XI from the decade: -----------Bossu------------- -McQuilken-Lilley-Bus-D.Smith- --Thornley-Winter-Muirhead--- ---Kristjansson-Craig-Blaha---- Worst Game of the Decade: Loads of obvious ones, but ones that I was present at... There was one New Years game against Kilmarnock under Pele that we were absolutely woeful in I think we won but a worse game of football I have never witnessed. I think the highlight may have been Shearer trying to lay the nut on the ref. Biggest single disappointment of the decade: The whole thing. Quote
Guest ally s Posted December 31, 2009 Report Posted December 31, 2009 Not wanting to split hairs or anything but why does nearly everyone have McQuilken at right back? I thought he played left back for us? Quote
baggy89 Posted December 31, 2009 Report Posted December 31, 2009 Not wanting to split hairs or anything but why does nearly everyone have McQuilken at right back? I thought he played left back for us? Your probably right, but with so many choices at left back... The only position with a bigger pool of players would have been up front, I was tempted to go for an Ardilles-esque 1 -10 formation. Quote
manc_don Posted December 31, 2009 Report Posted December 31, 2009 I don't think I can even bring myself to put up a shite team of the decade. There have been soooo many! But I'll give it a go. Worst Aberdeen Player of the Decade: Hmmm....Thornley Worst homegrown player: As per Baggy. Ross O'Donoghue? Scott Muirhead?? Scott Morrison??? Jon Stewart? David Donald?? Worst signing: Hinds...Wright...Bus....Kristjansson Worst goalkeeper: Bossu Worst defender: Dan Smith Worst midfielder: Thornley Worst forward: Blaha... Worst manager: Pele. Though we're hardly setting the heather alight right now. Pick your worst starting XI from the decade: -----------Bossu------------- -McQuilken-Lilley-Bus-D.Smith- --Thornley-Tiernan-Muirhead--- ---Kristjansson-Stewart-Blaha---- Worst Game of the Decade: Christ, where to start...Livi (how many times?) Most cup games under JC. Biggest single disappointment of the decade: Agree with Baggy The whole thing. Quote
Madbadteacher Posted December 31, 2009 Report Posted December 31, 2009 Well I suppose it was my idea so here goes I don't think I can even bring myself to put up a shite team of the decade. There have been soooo many! But I'll give it a go. Worst Aberdeen Player of the Decade: Rachid Belabed Worst homegrown player: Fergus Tiernan Worst signing: Pasquinelli Worst goalkeeper: Bossu Worst defender: Cobain Worst midfielder: Dempsey Worst forward: Kristjiansson Worst manager: I'd say Ebbe...started an awfulw decade awfully Pick your worst starting XI from the decade: Bossu Cobain Touzani Bus D Smith Gillies Dempsey Belabed Hinds Daal Kristjansson (Would have had both Paatelainens in there, but did they ever play?) Sorry forgot: Worst game...Bohemian 1-2 at home in 2000 The start of a decade of embarassment Quote
minijc Posted December 31, 2009 Report Posted December 31, 2009 Dempsey was the white Veira and Touzani was alright. Quote
Madbadteacher Posted December 31, 2009 Report Posted December 31, 2009 Any opinion expressed here by me is not necessarily the opinion of other opinionated DTer's! Quote
baggy89 Posted December 31, 2009 Report Posted December 31, 2009 Agree with minijc I liked Dempsey and Karim. Neither Paatelainen brother played, but neither did Gillies in this decade. Also I thought Pasquinelli looked decent maybe if he hadn't got injured so early in his Aberdeen career my opinion may not have been such. I also don't understand the dislike of Cobain (also ally s) another who was blighted by injury and incidentally did not actually play for us in the "Noughties". Sorry to pick holes, nae offence, just waiting to get home. Quote
BobbyBiscuit Posted December 31, 2009 Report Posted December 31, 2009 Hate to be a pedant, but I think Cobian only played for us in 99. Did Gillies play for us in this decade? Not sure to be honest. (could be argued he didn't play for us in the previous decade either...) Quote
Guest ally s Posted December 31, 2009 Report Posted December 31, 2009 He was an Aberdeen player (Cobian) in the 00s so I thought that'd count? Quote
Guest ally s Posted December 31, 2009 Report Posted December 31, 2009 According to soccerbase and Wiki Cobian was an Aberdeen player until the end of the 99/00 season. I'll have re-think on my right back though as he didn't appear to play for us in the 00s. Edit: Changed it to Stephen Payne Quote
baggy89 Posted December 31, 2009 Report Posted December 31, 2009 @ ally s. Who knows, tbf I thought he was from the 00's, I'm just bored so thought I'd look up soccerbase (Mainly because I was sure Gilles left well before he did). I found that Mark Peat actually started a game for us maybe he should have been my goalie pick . *edit Quote
Madbadteacher Posted December 31, 2009 Report Posted December 31, 2009 Pick holes all you like baggy, this is all about debate I hadn't realised Gillies and Cobain hadn't played at the latter end of the 99-00 season, I'll re-think Quote
Madbadteacher Posted December 31, 2009 Report Posted December 31, 2009 Just realised I missed out Bird for a forward role! Replace Cobain with Hedderman Replace Gillies with Tiernan Quote
maverick sheep Posted December 31, 2009 Report Posted December 31, 2009 Worst Aberdeen Player of the Decade: Dan Smith Worst homegrown player: Tiernan Worst signing: McNamara Worst goalkeeper: Souter Worst defender: Smith Worst midfielder: Tiernan Worst forward: Craig Worst manager: Pele Pick your worst starting XI from the decade: Souter Smith, Whyte, Bus, McNamara Thornley, Tiernan, Winter, Muirhead Craig, Blaha Worst Game of the Decade: QoS Biggest single disappointment of the decade: Lack of ambition and direction Quote
BobbyBiscuit Posted December 31, 2009 Report Posted December 31, 2009 Worst Aberdeen Player of the Decade: Bryan Prunty. The worst player I've ever seen pull on a red shirt (I'm not counting guys who played one game then we never saw again). Utter fucking ding. Worst homegrown player: Scott Muirhead. Lanky streak of pish was how I described him on his debut and he never did anything to make me change my mind. Worst signing: should really be Prunty as per my first answer, but for the money spent and the perserverance with actually playing the guy, I'll say Richie Byrne. Worst goalkeeper: Bossu Worst defender: McQuilken Worst midfielder: Muirhead Worst forward: Prunty Worst manager: Paterson Pick your worst starting XI from the decade: Bossu McNamara Byrne Lilley McQuilken Muirhead Winter Fabiano Prunty Mike D'Jaffo Worst Game of the Decade: QotS, felt physically sick after that. Some of the other heavy defeats in the early part of the decade were hard to take but not altogether surprising. QotS was unexpected and was pretty monumental. You could go on for ages with the "if onlys..." Biggest single disappointment of the decade: Will have to go with Baggy on this one... the whole rotten saga. Quote
Stewart Posted December 31, 2009 Report Posted December 31, 2009 Worst Aberdeen Player of the Decade: Blaha Worst homegrown player: Tiernan Worst signing: McNamara Worst goalkeeper: Bossu Worst defender: Bus Worst midfielder: Tiernan Worst forward: Blaha Worst manager: Paterson Pick your worst starting XI from the decade: Bossu McNamara Bus Lilley McQuilken Tiernan O'Donoghue Winter Blaha Prunty Hinds Worst Game of the Decade: Queen's Park Biggest single disappointment of the decade: No trophies Quote
baggy89 Posted December 31, 2009 Report Posted December 31, 2009 Sure it was Bird that lived above my sister, always seemed a nice quiet lad and there was never any parties or loud music from upstairs apparently. Probably just wasn't loud and arrogant enough to make it as a footballer. Quote
