  1. Aberdeen have named an 18 man squad for tomorrow night's friendly with Montrose. The squad is a mix of youth and experience and includes both Jonathan Smith and Sone Aluko so it could be your chance to get a first glimpse of the Dons latest signings. The match, which has been organised to officially open the new field turf pitch at Links Park, will kick of at 7:45pm.

    The full squad is:

Kelly, Bateman, Foster, Touzani, McVitie, McNamara, Dan Smith, de Visscher, Nicholson, Jonathan Smith, Young, Aluko, Kurrant, Miller, Lovell, Stuart Smith, Ross, Strachan.

    Anyone going?

  2. Right our glorious leader has been spraffing again

RedWeb spoke with Jimmy Calderwood a short time ago to get his reaction. "It is another very very difficult draw even although we were one of the seeded teams. I don't think I have had an easy draw in any of the cup competitions since I have been manager at Aberdeen.

WTF! Very very difficult! No, Drawing Real Madrid is very very difficult. Partick should be a victory!

  3. Sort of disagree with the fact Lovell was terrible , thought he was quite good ...Yes , his header should have been a goal and he should have squared a ball in the box to Miller in the 2nd half to go 2-0 up ... BUT .. His off the ball runs were excellent and the midfield made him look silly on a number of occassions because they didn't play him through early enough and he had to check up or go offside. He is not a target man but again we seemed to play the long high ball ... Why ?? Give him 4 or 5 full games in a row and get his confidence up ,as he proved last season ( a couple of times) his pace terrifies defences and he can finish , but he needs the service that suits him , not a high lump into the air that a defender is going to win 90% of the time.

Good win though , but the usual nail biting with 10mins to go could have been avoided with some more composure in front of goal. Need to build on this win.

I agree, I would also say that the balls played to him (especailly in the first half) were all into the corner and you cant score from there!

  4. Not Naysaying or Poopooing any statement here but Our goal today came from a corner kick that was a result of DEREK YOUNG busting up and earning it.

I along with many here have slagged him but that does count for something doesn't it?

Could this actually be JC's Silk Purse from a Sow's Ear?

Drew, I was in line with Youngs 'run' up the line, he lost control of it twice - thankfully the defender passed it back to him in similar shambolic ball control and then he punted it off the defender.

He didnt play that bad at times, but a couple of times he left a hole at our left by randomly running into the middle to double mark a player and on one occasion was wandering around the box looking for someone to mark as the ball was swung in from where he should have been.

  5. David Fernandez and Ryan O'Leary are the latest injury doubts for Kilmarnock as they host Aberdeen in the SPL.

Gary Locke and Gary Wales remain doubtful, while Jamie Fowler, Danny Invincibile, Garry Hay, Craig Bryson and Eric Skora are all definitely out.

Aberdeen could give debuts to forwards Jonathan Smith and Sone Aluko, signed from Wigan and Birmingham respectively.

Lee Mair, Richie Byrne and Jeffrey de Visscher are out. Scott Severin, Chris Clark, Zander Diamond are doubtful.

Mmm nae to sure about this game - I think a draw is on the cards. Wouldn't mind seeing the new boys coming on as subs to see them.

  6. From the Birmingham mail:

BLUES forward Sone Aluko has joined Aberdeen on loan.

The 18-year-old, who made his debut as a substitute in the Carling Cup on Tuesday, links up with former Blues defender Jimmy Calderwood, the Pittodrie boss.

Aluko, who has been called-up by England under-19s for a friendly against Belarus next month, has broken through to the fringes of the senior squad at Blues.

He impressed during the pre-season trip to Germany and manager Steve Bruce felt the time was right for him to gain valuable competitive experience.

An added attraction for Aluko, who can play on the left wing or up front, is Aberdeen's UEFA Cup involvement.

They have been drawn against  Dnipro, from the Ukraine, in the first round proper.
