Perfectly said. He did somewhat well for us, provided top six stability again, we had some good memories, but we had to move away as we were going backwards, he peaked in 16/17. time to look for a new savior.

Ugh. Comments like this should be banned! hard no, we moved on for a reason.

Ricardo Rodriguez still available by the look of things. Know more or less nothing about him, just a name brought up in the last search… Iam Murray has a similar background, slightly less, than Goodwin, not the experience we need. Kjetil Knutson is an interesting one, he’’d certainly get more exposure with us, but we’d likely be a stepping stone and if he gets positive momentum could be with us only for a short time. We almost need someone who has gone bigger, failed, and needs to rebuild credibility….??

Thing is Rico, if we are the third biggest club in Scotland, which we all think we are, is Aberdeen really the place where we need someone at the club to be correcting a limited manager for basic fuck ups, poor line up, bad tactics, rotten subbing etc? I think we’re a club that demands more than that. We can hire an Alex Ferguson up and comer if he’s clearly that stud of a young manager, but that’s obviously not Robson. Glass seemed to be smarter, just very dull to listen to and lacked the players. Both Goodwin and Robson weren’t my choices and both have shown they aren’t our standard. Are you expecting those behind the manager to give more than they are required to do? A manager can be held accountable by results, but you are asking for accountability for style of play and performance, tactics, subbing, basic team selection, I don’t think that’s their job. I think it’s results and draws and a win and a cup final have bought a poor manager under performing in the league time. I think the convo has to be moved to the next manager thread and who is astute enough for our club? We need a manager with experience so that we are not hoping the next manager has someone at the club to correct such basic errors. Our style of play is god awful, we also need a manager who will fix that. Cormack cannot be happy with the shit Robson has us playing??
-
My regular window post, Mikey Johnson please, the next Niall mcginn. would love to see this window used to get us back to 4 at the back and play with two wingers again. Problem is, no clue what we are trying to do. Formation and style of play are shit. Tough to build around absolute bollocks when I don’t buy into the bollocks. how was baccus yesterday??

I think you’re being fair. For the most part we’ve been consistently shite, I don’t recall a game where we’ve played well, maybe the Motherwell game even though we lost two late goals to win 4-2? I cannot think of many at all. Our style of play is brutal and consistently unsuccessful, hard to justify giving Robson time when there’s absolutely nothing to say we do well at. We’ve not been unlucky, injuries haven’t ravaged us, we’ve just been piss poor and nothing suggests that will change. While it was great to reach the cup final, we didn’t play well In one single game. I said I’d have given glass more time, even Goodwin had us decent up until a bad January run with the two old firm losses hurting him badly. Don’t want another sacking but it’s hard not to see past that.

You’re saying someone has to assist, which I assume is where you call for support. My point is that the assist/support is clearly there in Gunn, Agnew, fox/leven etc, even Jordan miles maybe? I think we need a serious look at the whole thing. Robson isn’t good enough, everyone sees that. I don’t see a young creative astute coach, I see a blunt instrument, not someone who inspires attacking free flowing football. I’d have given glass longer than I’d give Robson. I don’t know if providing a quality team around robson is enough, we are a club that expects more from a manager. I’m questioning the ability of those around him, and the mess that’s been created. I like cormack, it’s just becoming more apparent to me that those in place, Robson, Gunn for 2 to begin with, aren’t our required level. not sure where Jordan miles fits in but our recruitment seems a lot more miss than hit and who answers for that?? Harsh to judge him since the summer work was mostly done before he got here.

We’ve debated this before, how can you say the manager has/has not been backed? The club/board/DC have spent to put a squad together, and I think it’s irrelevant who the manager is. I don’t think our coach identifies and signs player, others do that I believe. I don’t think you can say they haven’t backed the manager in transfers, they put together the best squad they could to make him successful. It’s also been many less loans, they spent money for robson’s squad. They’ve also surrounded him with experience in Steve Agnew, plus have Steven Gunn, and you could even throw in Liam Fox given to Robson for a bit. i think there are huge questions, obviously Robson is not the guy in my eyes, said that for pretty much a year now but gave him a chance and even earlier in the season argued to give him time. He’s not good enough, today there’s no excuse, we were rested, have better players, yet were shit and our coach failed to fix anything during the game…..yet again. Many times this year plenty have questions robsons tactics, game management including subbing, we need an experienced guy not only to coach but to rebuild our squad. People say we were decent in Europe but I see Europe as underachieving, what if we’d had a better coach who made better decisions? i don’t think robson’s our guy but the bigger issue is Gunn and those at the club who are responsible for signings, players and coaching staff. The last few years haven’t been good enough. We’ve failed with a quality coach to replace mcinnes. But we’ve also failed to rebuild a squad, too many loans and many more misses than hits when it comes to signings. We’re a mess right now and while we do need to give a manager a few windows, do you trust Robson, Gunn etc? I don’t.

It’s a nothing article really. Nobody expects a lot of transfers in the January window. I’d say we’re looking at maybe Williams and or dadia gone and a center mid and winger coming in. Then there’s the chance we sell one and buy one. I don’t think that’s a huge window but I’d say that’s expected.

Looks like Paul Hartley is keeping himself busy!
-
Looks like he’s having a very good season, bologna doing well in 4th, Ferguson scoring goals and has captained the side a few times. Seems a real favorite there too. Fair to compare him to a Souness type midfielder, tough tackling box to box type??
-
This is the best thing for us, third game in the last 7 days today had we played, and who knows how many in the last months, too lazy to count. Rest, train, and prep for the next game!

I’d say every game outside of hearts, Celtic, and rangers, should be three points. We have the players to do it and given we’ve been shit in the league all year and aren’t that far behind 3rd, our league competition is not quality. Home or away, 3 points are a must in games like this. really hope to see 4 at the back, Mackenzie or Jensen at LB behind Hayes. As much as I don’t rate Morris positive things happened with him on the right second half yesterday, so him ahead of devlin. I’m going for 3-2, we’re not strong defensively but I think we’ll score goals. Miovski 2 and Hayes.
-
Silence here……anyone linked to us??

But did it make sense? If they were a back 3 and duk was getting forward from wide then it would stretch their back 3 and give miovski space. Throwing another center forward made it easier for them since, for some reason, we weren’t going long (thankfully!!!). Theyd be able to stay compact. Morris wide helped us, I felt we should have stuck with duk and Morris wide, that would really have stretched them. I’d have stuck McGrath behind miovski and infront of shinnie and polvara, duk and morris were more than capable with their speed of getting back as well as forward, and they were both getting some success from wide areas. his subbing was poor and he continues to make things harder than they need to be. Will he learn that we actually do have personnel to successfully play 4 at the back and have a semi decent midfield? Tonight also showed me that gartenmann is not a central defender, a right back forced to play in the middle. He looked shaky, worst I’ve seen him play. When jack comes back I’d really like to see a back 4 of devlin Macdonald Jensen and Mackenzie.
-
It’s hard to play as a center mid when you have no right and left mid, the play tends to get queezed, narrow and we will go long more often when wide is not really an option. Saying that I felt long ball wasn’t that much evident either half but as I texted during the game, giving a center mid a right and left mid will help the center mid. Stretches the opponents mids so creates space plus gives the center mid more passing options. I thought polvara did well both halves, best I’ve seen him play by far, good technical player and kore involved than in previous games I’ve seen him. Still would like to see him even more involved plus smash a few people and win tackles, a bit lightweight for a big lad.
-
Morris is pish, a decent right mid/winger in his positions and we’d have scored a few more. Please learn from this and stick with 4 at the back and play with legit wingers, got January to find some too. thought mcgarry and gartenmann were our poorest two tonight, on the flip side saw more of polvara tonight, thought he played well. He’s very tidy on the ball and I think will only get better with playing time. I also think we’re better balanced in center mid with clarkson or McGrath alongside shinnie and clarkson.
-
Not a duk fan but that’s a forced and bizarre sub, think duk has been playing well. Doesn’t look tired. Leave duk and miovski, why change it??? Ok clarkson for McGrath, other than gartenmann looking ropey I wouldn’t change it.
-
Another few hundred k added to his price tag. Hat trick on the way!
-
Mcgarry and gartenmann have been poor. Sorry, but bring on morris for gartenmann and Hayes wide, play higher wide and we’ll win.
-
To be fair polvara has had a decent first half. But what does he excel at? I think he’d do better with a left and right mid around him to play with and he can play forward more. As I said above, I just don’t think 3-5-2 works for us.
-
What we are seeing is why we are shit. 3-5-2 doesn’t work. We don’t have the players to play this well. No width further forward. Duk and miovski chasing long balls. No connection wide creating 2v1s and attacking chances, set up to fail. Rely so much on devlin to get forward. Too much to ask of him game by game. We won’t succeed until we go away from 3 at the back. and 1-1 now. Missed the goal cos I was texting this shit.
-
Sorry to be negative but ugh. Just means more long ball and watch duk dribble, flop, and lose the ball multiple times. I feel we have to develop the sokler miovski partnership and duk plays the Hewitt super sub role well. lost my love for duk, hope he proves me wrong! Also not overly in the polvara fan club. Yet to see him play really well for us, just don’t think he has the dig and graft, and doesn’t have the mentality to take control of a game. hope to see more but we need a dominating midfield 3. 2-1 us, miovski and shinnie.
-
Agree with pretty much everything said and moved my comment to the January window. Change of approach needed. We cannot continue with the current shit.
-
All right, now that Europe and the cup are out of the way, for Christmas and January can we please get a new formation? I think that’s our downfall and much of the reason we are for the most part a shit watch. We also don’t need to be a counter attacking team (our league opponents are not that good and we need to dictate on the front foot). We need to be more attack minded with more attack minded players on the field, specifically wingers. Pains me to watch us without them. The three at the back shit isn’t working well and the whole reason we went to 3 was to play 2 up top to accommodate duk since we found out he couldn’t play wide. We changed our whole formation for him and it’s not worth it. Send or dadia and Williams back from loans to free up squad space and some money. Obviously we could see Barron and miovski move in this window, possibly even duk, but frees up money. Polvara replaced Barron short term, soklar for miovski, and if duk goes give young bavidge or Duncan the minutes. obviously Roos is our keeper, devlin right back, I’d be intrigued if we could sign Matty pollock, name been mentioned a couple of times of late and not playing regularly at present, alongside Jensen or Macdonald, with Jensen or Mackenzie at left back. sign a proper right midfielder for certain and let Hayes and mcgarry share/compete for left mid but that’s an area to upgrade in the summer (needed as mcgarry may not be good enough and Hayes is in clear decline.) Sign a Rama type center mid to play alongside shinnie and clarkson, with miovski up top. I’m saying 4-2-3-1 with three in mid attacking to support miovski (soklar if bojan is sold.) you’ve got ruby, gartenmann, Barron, McGrath, duk, polvara, morris, Milne, and Duncan as back up/off the bench. the current formation is based around counter attacking and direct play. It hasn’t worked this season other than games in Europe, but we don’t see that level of opponent and different tactics are certainly needed domestically. I think this is a must, while Europe was fun and a cup final, the Robson experiment isn’t working and I hope he sees it’s formation that needs changing (sadly I doubt he’ll change it.) I don’t think anyone here can really argue 3-5-2 is the way to go and that we’re a good watch at present.
