I pay very little attention to other teams players, Nicky Devlin any good? What type of right back is he??
-
Anyone willing to comment on the penalty we had/didn’t get? Seemed like a no brainer to me but it appeared it wasn’t even reviewed by VAR?? Makes a farce of the whole thing. Again.

From what I saw we weren’t too bad today and certainly missed chances. Nice goal from cantwell to be fair. Not too disappointed really as our run of wins and clean sheets had to end sometime, and that’s a game I can understand losing. Especially with hearts losing today too. Beating hearts, st mirren, and hibs have to happen, plus Celtic having won the league, taking something from them last day isnt out of the question.

Oh well. Really wanted ayr and QOS promoted to add a little bit more interest/intrigue next year.

Mccrorie a rolls Royce? But of a red tinted specs view there. I’m a big fan but I’d go for Volvo or Audi, better than an a to b Japanese car or the likes but not quite a beemer or merc. richardson, what did del boy drive??

I’ve been very vocal that I didn’t want goodwin and wanted an experienced manager to replace him. Robson was not my choice but there’s no guarantee of success with an experienced manager. everything I feel right now is that players want to play for robson. That’s massive. They work their bollocks off for him. It’s his leadership that has got us here, with a hun win today the statement win so far. I’m ok with Robson permanently. He seems to have that connection with players, plus with his two assistants we have experience. If it’s Robson, sign the two assistants too. The problem is that how many of these players will be here next season? With mccrorie potentially away we may well lose him Macdonald pollock and scales, and I’d argue those 4 have been influential on this run. I’d take the supposed 2M for mccrorie and see if we can get scales Macdonald and even pollock signed up or extended. Plus lock in shinnie. Lock in 3rd too that’s guaranteed funds and let’s get some summer signings in. I’d also see is we can give duk and miovski new contracts with maybe 10m release clauses. they are getting interest so set the tone for what we want. Still think miovski would do well in England but duk is raw and would benefit from another year here. not only has Robson got us winning, he’s very popular and they fans are right behind him. That’s momentum we can build on, and the feel good factor is here for sure. Not hiring Robson probably damages that feel good factor to be honest, and summer/autumn then brings uncertainty. Summer can further momentum with Robson building a squad. Every manager has its risk, Robson and his management team makes sense now.

Maybe, but I think our issue is that we don’t know his best position. Does he even have a best position? He’s a solid worker and someone I like, but where does he play? I think he fills the shinnie role in center mid but if we can keep shinnie I think rama and shinnie are our guys there. He’s not a central defender but back up there and he’s only right back because Richardson is shit. If we get 2M that’s good money and surely we can find someone as good for less than that.

Huge window, obviously having to replace an entire defense. Think Macdonald will stay, would certainly like to keep pollock and scales too as that back 3 has been solid. Scales has had an up and down season which might benefit us in trying to sign him permanently? Pollock is young and has done very well here, but unlike clarkson with Liverpool, watford aren’t getting promoted so they may see him as one for next season. clarkson needs replaced, don’t think we can afford to sign a permanent player of that level. I also think, while others disagree, another year for him up here isn’t a bad thing. Liverpool will spend money this summer given their season, don’t see clarkson as a priority to them. Up top it all depends on whether duk and miovski stay. Tough position and we have to be scouting for players to replace them since if good money is offered we will accept. signing shinnie permanently is certainly desirable. If we can’t keep him we certainly need a shinnie type player in there as it’s not Connor Barron. Barron needs to get fit and be part of the rotation again. would love us to add two legit wingers with Duncan as the third player to rotate wide although Ryan has played in other positions of late too so not sure of his natural position. Morris vinnie kennedy and mclennan need to get punted but I’d keep Roberts to see if he’s capable.

Interesting statement from the club, publicly asking the SFA for a new review with a new panel. It’s corrupt and a farce though, why do we think we’ll get a different outcome. Have we ever seen, in regard to Aberdeen, common sense come through with appeals?
-
Sorry bud, I think you are very wrong. Miovski is a very good player. Started well but in a new team with a new manager it wasn’t going to be a smooth ride. Then we had the World Cup and the goodwin fiasco, but overall for a young player coming to a foreign league he’s done well. He’s quick, reads the game well, good hold up player, and a finisher. If we can keep him past the summer I think he’ll have an even better season next year. Saying that I can see him going to England if the money is right, duk too.

Robson’s style is hard work, passion, and defend for your lives. A short term plan to get us out of trouble and get us up the table. But that can only take you so far, impossible to play that way for an entire season. I don’t know if Robson has the ability for more or if he’s a quick short term fix. Throw in around 5-10 new signings and it’s a whole new season and whole new squad. That’s where his track record/inexperience kicks in, we have no clue, much like goodwin and glass, what he’s capable of long term.

As well as a good run from us, in recent weeks all results have gone our way. We’ve had our luck there for sure. Wins for rangers and hibs today make for a good weekend. Fingers crossed!
-
How much of a factor is shinnie in this change of fortune? Didn’t think it was a red tonight either.
-
No ramadani today…injured?
-
SeeBass, quite the opposite, I think you created a good thread! Good fun discussion/debate, and bit of reminiscing, and a bit of fun. We’ve had some quality up top and some shite, and it’s fun hearing people’s opinions. Pub/game chat that would be friendly banter were we all in person!
-
Lee Miller and Steve Lovell, thought that was going to be a dream front line but just didn’t really pan out that way…
-
Stevie May, Goodwillie, JET, and Mackie being there is laughable. No sign of mcdougall and black? Big factor in us winning the league in 84/85.
-
Exactly this. Looked good with a solid back 4 but got shit when the pressure kicked in and defense was weak. To me he lost confidence and never recovered from that.
-
We have to do what’s best for the club, not Robson. While he may see us as his forest green (unlikely), pretty sure the club compares themselves more to a Scottish Everton. Yes we can give him a shot and hope for the best, giving him a go as you say, but we tried that with glass, and then goodwin. Every hire is a gamble, no manager guarantees success. But a manager with a background that includes time in management, success, winning, trophies etc is less of a gamble than a guy who has never had a full time managers gig before.
-
I‘m not denying Robson hasn’t done a bad job. But until a few weeks ago he coached our u18s. He’s ‘managed’ maybe a dozen games in two stints here, in a position that has little to lose as he’s helping the club out as interim. You could argue Agnew was brought in to help stablize a team that were going bad fast and could get sucked into a relegation battle. I wouldn’t say Agnew was brought in because Robson saw his own inexperience. This is robson’s only first team coaching/managing experience at any club. That’s a huge risk - we failed badly with glass, and failed again with goodwin. Third time a charm?? I’d compare it to going to college. You learn the theory, maybe some placement or on job experience, graduate, that start a real gig. Do you jump from a new graduate to a top job or do you build your way up? Just don’t see cormack going for inexperience a third time. Maybe not a great comparison, but perhaps Robson needs to find his forest green like Duncan Ferguson??

Goodwin was totally inexperienced, especially at our level. Never coached at a level Aberdeen expect, and never reached the standards a club like ours expects. Not well travelled or had managerial experience outside of Scotland. Not worldly. Goodwin has never been at a club where winning trophies and advancing in Europe is the expectation (not simply qualifying.) we need a guy who has had similar experiences and pressures. Someone who has to coach and adjust coaching to win big games, make decisions to advance in cups, and coach during games to have significant impact. While having the pressures of a big club. Ok, he played in england and that’s experience, but not coaching experience. Managing a part time club like alloa has very different demands and expectations, at st mirren it’s survival, hopefully top 6, maybe latter stages of a cup, maybe even a final, but that’s punching above their weight. Being at aberdeen was a big step up for him. I’d like someone who has experiences similar demands and similar pressures. Someone who has won something and experienced significant pressures to win. While I’m not saying I want the likes of strachan, McGhee, Lennon, Paul lambert, jack Ross etc, all have achieved more and have greater experience than goodwin and a ‘safer’ hire. im not saying goodwin is a bad manager. Maybe he’s better than Robson, maybe worse. But I think given the business that is football today, the millions involved, the demands of a big club, the pressures of winning, especially at a club who needs to build or renovate a stadium, money matters big time. Selecting the right manager has a big element of luck, but experience really matters IMHO.
-
I still see Robson as a short term fix guy, win games now and do whatever it takes. You know the players, do what it takes. That’s hard to implement long term. He has impressed me too but being a full time manager with short and long term goals is different. Experience matters. Repeating myself but we failed with the last two guys being inexperienced, we won’t do that again. I just don’t see it.
-
I think it says something that Watkins is involved more. All effort and workrate to succeed right now. However, I only think that lasts so long which suggests short term fix. But as I have said, happy for Robson to be an assistant or first team coach.
-
Very solid performance from what I saw. Good win! I know others disagree but I really like shinnie and ramadani in center mid, two workers with drive who allow others to be creative.

4 at the back w scales at LB? Or back 3 with Hayes at left wing back??
