Europa League Playoff - BK Hacken vs Dons

Yeah. Found that a little odd that he didn’t come on at all. If you’re on the bench you’re fit to play and Duncan was poor. -
Europa League Playoff - BK Hacken vs Dons

I think we were good against Celtic in a big game, we’ve got to remember that. We were poor (ish) yesterday but let’s not overreact. I think it’s Macdonald in for morris and move devlin to right wing back. Hayes for Duncan if he’s fit enough then the rest is the same. While morris hasn’t been as shite it’s clear to see to all, including Robson, that he’s limited. Away from home too it makes sense to go with the more solid defender at wing back too, so haves and devlin make more sense. can’t see a center mid being signed and playing Thursday unless it’s a big time signing. -
Interesting that a league one side made our left side look quite vulnerable tonight. Liam Scales anyone? it’s one game but the first game in a long time we’ve looked vulnerable at the back and lose a really shitty goal where our defending is awful.
-
I don’t agree. Morris got into plenty of good attacking positions, beat his man quite a lot, but more often than not his final product was poor. He’s a modern day Darren Mackie, all pace and little else. If we want to be a better team he’s a squad filler at best. For the Hacken game I’d prefer devlin at wing back with Macdonald slotting in to the back three, devlin will get assists and probably goals too. From the first three games I think we see Mackenzie Duncan polvara and morris should still be coming off the bench. Maybe they’ll develop further but right now we’re not that good starting these guys. Also don’t really see a lot in Barron to be honest. As for today, I thought shinnie and ruby were poor too. Just a one off for them, we know what Shinnie is like and first two games ruby looked solid. I also think duk was poor, took him a couple of months to find form last season, perhaps same again? Although he’s not carrying the weight he did this time last year. Ultimately we are through to the QF and it’s a win, home draw please!

Still crickets……?!??

As I said, plenty of coefficient implications. Of course them doing well benefits us and it’s so much harder doing it alone. I just don’t give to shits whether they succeed. Much like taking pleasure in England losing.
-
Plenty of coefficient implications so I’m sure I should feel differently, but I don’t give a fuck about other Scottish teams in Europe. Quite enjoy seeing them fail actually.
-
In this day and age it won’t take too much to make it happen. I dare you.
-
Agreed. Two games does not a player make. And we haven’t won yet, and no goals or assist from him yet. Think a few have talked him up a little too much. Hope I’m wrong.
-
I’m more meaning we have limited funds, not endless. There are other areas that need strengthened before adding another defender. Would be happy to get scales but happier to get the scales equivalent in center mid, attacking mid, or wide midfield.
-
Correct, thin squad and gaps, but scales position is not the huge gap. We can play a back 3 or 4, and have multiple options. We have minimal depth in center mid, virtually no wingers, and very little creativity. Given our finances are so limited, scales is a luxury we don’t ultimately need. Injuries to clarkson, shinnie for example, we are pretty fucked. When we need creativity it’s pretty much clarkson and that’s it. We need to invest further up the field, we have way more depth in defense than midfield.
-
Not giving a booking, Rudy tried to take him out but missed.
-
I think that’s the tackle where potentially Rudy could have been sent off. He’s already been booked and Celtic broke down the left, Rudy tried to take him out but missed!
-
Ha. Stewart and Milne, although given how Stewart played last year our ex chief may be a better alternative. we’ve played two games and look decent defensively, plus Macdonald makes us stronger. I assume Williams is good too although we don’t ultimately know. Do we really need scales? Like him and happy to get him but it’s because of our midfield we’ve got one point out of 6 so far, not enough quality there.
-
Here’s a controversial one for you. Scales won’t be cheap, so you sign two central mids instead of one and move shinnie to the left. If it’s a back 4 we already have mcgarry shinnie and Mackenzie, back 3 we have ruby Macdonald and Williams plus Stewart Milne and devlin if needed. Starting to wonder if scales is a luxury we don’t need when central midfield additions are much needed.

Red tv is the way to go. Very enjoyable commentating, Rob is great and every guest does well discussing the game. Costs you but a good donation to the club!
-
Who do we have on the bench good enough to change the game? Thought he brought on the only player on our bench good enough to make a difference in this game.
-
I hate losing but I can accept that. We gave it our best, loved the attitude. Can’t criticize anyone, good performances all around but special mention to ruby, very good player. We really lacked a number 10/center mid to help clarkson. Not a dig at shinnie or polvara but we lacked quality there resulting in too much long ball.
-
And he did. Besides the 5 min wobble after the error he was very good.
-
Think devlin will be a solid signing for us. And big Ruby at the back will get booked most games. Just hope he lasts this game…..and many!
-
Oh. And morris hasn’t been shite!
-
And I’ll add it’s only one half. But definitely a clearly different approach to playing Celtic. Refreshing attitude/mentality, what so many have cried out for.
-
2 preventable goals, big fan of shinnie but needless shinnie foul for the first and obviously devlin’s error. However, I can take that given we are actually trying to play and attack. Breath of fresh air seeing a first half like that against Celtic.
-
Agree. Signing good players is hard! It also gives polvara morris and Duncan an opportunity to show they are capable of contributing. From the team today I don’t see them as being long term starters and expect at least 3 more signings, which could include loans on the very last day of the window. The bullshit timing of the window and our league starting means we cannot really judge the squad in august, we have to be patient and hope things go our way this month.

Sooo European Football again eh?
OrlandoDon replied to tom_widdows's topic in Aberdeen Football Club
I don’t think there’s a single person here who wouldn’t prefer the good old days where we could compete with Real Madrid and Bayern munich, and have extended runs in Europe. We didn’t focus on money because it wasn’t a huge issue. We’re worlds away from that now. Money has totally ruined the game, I loved the old euro format of the three tournaments, league winners, cup winners etc. but that’s long gone. the only way to compete domestically and in Europe is to focus on money, become an excellent business. Teams like Ajax are the perfect example of developing youth, and there’s plenty examples of teams who buy then sell players for millions profit. We have to earn more money in order to advance in standards of performance and hopefully success. We have to be a better business if we want to compete. That means more money, better players, better performances. There’s no other way than the current model of selling on youth and flipping players like Rama. Ticket sales, sponsorship, and the club shop just don’t bring in enough. You’re living in the past if you don’t consider money.
