  1. I would have quite liked to see the league restructured as well. The 14-14-14 would have had the benefit of making the split fairer. You split after 26 games and then play each team in your half a further twice meaning we would never end up going playing a team away 3 times in a season to balance the home and away games.
  2. I don't see why we would only get 3, the coefficient has been getting better over the last few seasons. I haven't seen any confirmation that we are getting the final spot, notice posters on the other thread saying the Scottish cup is not null and void yet? Not that I'm convinced there will be European football next season, so it might not matter anyway.
  3. Doesn't really feel that satisfying, Id be ok with it not being awarded. That's a pretty pathetic points total we need to do better then that next season, who knows when that will even start. That should be our next predictor.
  4. Add to that it wont be in front of fans even if it does restart, which means the club will probably have to refund all these season tickets it has sold in the last month. It's going to be a difficult situation.
  5. So they have awarded it based on an average points per games played basis. Makes sense in a way I suppose, There is certainly no easy way to call it.
  6. There was a few seasons under Craig Brown where Vernon scored a decent amount for us despite us being pretty rubbish. But I think he was one of these strikers who needed someone up front beside him to be effective. When we started playing one up front under Mcinnes he wasnt scoring as much and ended up second choice to Rooney. I think he left when his contract expired, but he may have been allowed to leave early.
  7. It's probably a no go anyway. We all know that the TV deals are negotiated on the basis of 4 old firm games a season. I'd personally welcome league reconstruction but it wont happen even in this case.
  8. Does anyone think that we would be able to sell more tickets in the event that they were cheaper? I'm staring to see a bit of movement among fans for cheaper tickets so if we get to that situation and have a smaller capacity surely that would screw us. I don't think its beyond us to get 20,000 fans regularly if there is a better match day experience and if we could put a successful team on the park is there anything to say it couldn't be more. Cant get behind reducing the capacity for these reasons.
  9. We are going to need teams to start regularly scoring OG's against us at this rate.
  10. Fair enough. I knew he was able to come back to train, but never realised that extended to playing reserve games.
  11. The only way I could see us ending up in the bottom 6 is if we don't get any more wins before the split, which I do find unlikely but would certainly get McInnes the boot. I think if we don't get 3rd big questions will be asked. It would be a massive blow to our ambitions as a club not to make Europe, and although 4th place would likely get us in there is no guarantee we will get that on our current form. This season we have been terrible and it has been slightly disguised by how rotten the rest of the teams who should be competing with us have been. I think McInnes gets more slack from fans who are not attending games every week because we are sitting 4th one point off 3rd, which makes it sound like we are doing ok, but clearly doesn't tell the whole story. I also personally feel he needs to do more to get our promising youth players into the first team. That said I'm still slightly on the fence about giving McInnes the sack for a number of reasons. We all know how badly wrong changing managers can go for example the McGhee era. Caution aside I think there is also a part of me that doesn't like the reactive chopping and changing of managers that goes on too often these days. But it's been a couple of seasons we have been playing rubbish football. I think if McInnes manages to turn it around this season and get third or the cup he should get one more season to see if he can get us back to where we were a few years ago. I don't know if he is capable and I'm probably living in hope rather than confidence at this point.
  12. Thought Virtanen was out on loan? Or does he get to come back in for reserve games?
  13. Anderson could be a Shankland all over again. When he does score the quality of finishing is better than anything Ive seen Main or Cosgrove produce. But the fact is he isn't getting a run in the team. It feels like McInnes expects more of the youngsters then of our experienced players sometimes.
  14. That was a great goal, moved the ball quickly and sliced the Hamilton defense open. Exactly what we haven't been doing the last few matches.
  15. Was away to do that the other day, but I noticed in the new rules we are not allowed once the January window is shut. If its allowed I'll take 63
  16. I think it could work but like the saying goes, its only as good as the people using it. At the world cup there was a stipulation that it was only to be used for clear and obvious decisions. When I see controversy with it down south its usually because refs are using to override borderline decisions. Its also possible that the rules need to be modified along with it. At the moment someones toe or arm being offside is strictly speaking grounds for disallowing a goal, but they could make it that if the players are generally in line the goal stands. I think they will get it right eventually but I don't think there needs to be a rush to implement it up here yet. Let them iron out the problems first.
  17. I felt we were just way to ponderous tonight. Everytime one of our players got the ball they wanted to take three or four touches before playing it. There was no flick ons or through balls being played. I think the players we have are actually decent but they need to move the ball a bit faster. At times it would just be encouraging to see the ball clipped into the box. Disagree that Hernandes was gash rico, thought he looked composed and seemed to get up and down the wing well. However he wasn't really tested defensively so we will have to wait and see on that. Obviously I hope there is a little more to come but seeing as the Norwegian season runs from March to November I presume his fitness isnt 100% yet. I do however agree with the comments regarding Gallacher. There is no doubt he has an engine but his touch is atrocious and Im not surprised we struggled with him behind Cosgrove. As for Cosgrove himself there is no doubt hes gone off the boil a bit. Its hard to judge him because the service was so poor at times, but I would like to see him be a bit more aggressive in the opponents box. I dont think any of our team won a header in there tonight.
  18. Sorry should have been clear I meant Kristiansen. Heikkenen was a Paterson signing, but I think he did well in Calderwoods first season with us.
  19. Forgot we actually signed him. Often used to buy him on championship manager 03/04, where he was ace.
  20. Aberdeen boss Derek McInnes hopes the arrival of Venezuela international Ronald Hernandez is the start of an influx of foreign talent at Pittodrie after the club expanded their scouting network. (Daily Express, print edition) Theres your answer Seebass.
  21. Fair enough big Al, I hadn't read that so I was uninformed. I got the impression he had refused our offer of training facilities. If that's the case I don't have a problem with getting him in on a mostly pay as you play type deal.
  22. 1 million in 1995 must be worth about 2.5 going by inflation. However Football is a different thing altogether Andy Cole joined Man utd for 7 million in 1995. Even if you discount some of the outliers a lot of players are going for around the 80-100 million mark. So from that point of view Bernard today would have cost somewhere in the region of 10-15 million today. Also I don't know if I would offer hoban anything at this stage. He obviously doesnt fancy joining us, so what's the point.
  23. I presume Cormack is willing to take the hit if it doesn't work out, he seems like he is a proper supporter so I hope he wouldn't walk away if it does go wrong. And although its a lot more than we have paid for anyone for a long time its still not a crazy amount especially with what a European run could bring in nowadays. There was a few times during Milnes tenure that had he invested a little more at the right time we could have moved forward instead of regressing but he didn't do it. I think we are at that point again (and possibly have been for a few seasons) where we need a little bit more to get us back on track. Unfortunately there are certainly no rules that forbid benefactors coming in and splashing the cash. In fact sadly in modern football its almost always a prerequisite to success. Look no further then sevco who are making massive losses. I believe the financial fair play rules which Fifa have implemented allow clubs to make a loss of £30million a season before they get penalised. That may curtail the PSG's a bit but at our level its an irrelevance. Anyway hope this can push us on I really would like to see a few more European nights at Pittodrie before we move.
  24. Out of the Calderwood era dutch contingent I seem to remember Karim Touzani and Ferne Snoyl where the only two who looked decent at the time. Touzani was dutch U21 who had been on the verge of a £1.5m move to PSV. Then he got injured and its seems his fitness issues stalled his career. Seemed to remember Snoyl looking half decent for us, but it looks like his career petered out and he was done by the age of 25/26.
  25. Kennedy is Scottish. Represented Scotland at all youth levels.
