January transfer window and the squad as it stands

Good to see us bringing in a flair player. Hopefully he can adapt to the physical side of the game here and be a real find. It's definately a position where we need strengthening. -

Good point, Christie was with us for a couple of years so you almost forget he was a loan. Still a good few years since we got anyone decent in. If we had given the time we gave to the likes of James Wilson to one of youth prospects maybe some more of them would have kicked on. Got to credit Glass, he seems more likely to give our own young players a chance than McInnes. -

It's been years since we got anyone decent on loan. Maddison is the last one I can think of. Would be better just giving time to our own youngsters. -
I think it was about the same time the two of them broke through but a few things went in Pattersons favor over Ramsey. Rangers were doing well at the time which allowed him to slot in and show how good he was, whereas we have been struggling and Ramsey hasn't had the players around him to show his best. I think though we can all agree another factor was that Scotland couldn't go to the Euros without a hun in the squad so he was fast tracked in there. Both have (according to Wikipedia) made roughly the same number of appearances and that's with Ramsey having been out for several months. I presume Ramsey actually has more starts and minutes as well. I actually think Patterson is a decent player from what I've seen but we will see how good now he's at Everton. The plus for Ramsey is that he has time on his side. He's a couple of years younger than Patterson so hopefully a better prospect in the end.

Think we were a bit fortuitous today but its always a slog against them. Probably just starts to make up for the times we have been unlucky this season. With results going for us again today I would say 3rd place is there for the taking. I'm not going to get ahead of myself and say I'm confident we will do it, but I am starting to feel a bit more optimistic. None of the other teams in the league are particularly good Hearts somehow went about 10 games unbeaten but are now only 6 points ahead of us. But even if our form is a bit patchy throughout the season it still looks like we still might have enough to achieve a spot in europe which would be a good result for the first season under new management.

The Forgotten Man - Ronald Hernandez????????
DantheDon replied to SeeBass's topic in Aberdeen Football Club
How does that even work? Surely he's got to come back, he's our player? It's been such a strange signing, obviously it wasn't just Mcinnes that wasn't keen on him. -
I think we were very unlucky not to get the 3 points tonight. Having seen the highlights I think there is a case for both the free-kick that led to their first goal and their pen. But as has been said, if it were at the other end there is no chance we would have got them. Hopefully the last two games are a sign that things are starting to click for us, it should certainly give us more confidence going forward.

Only positive is that we are still early days under new management. So hopefully if the right foundation is put in place to give us a chance. If we can get more young talents like Ramsay into the team I feel this is the way to go, although the odd astute signing is welcome its always difficult for a club with our budget to attract established players. That was the downfall of McInnes in the end.

We are really struggling to create anything. Qarabag are no mugs but if we are ever going to get to a european Group stage this is the level of opposition we need to be able to beat. We are clearly a long way off still.
-
Going back to the Samuel's fee would this be because we would be due Wolves a development fee? Watkins wouldn't be a bad option but my only concern is he's not the kind of player who will bag many goals.
-
He's just signed a new deal at hibs, hopefully we have other targets as He's definitely the sort of player we could do with.
-
Like Kairat?
-
Easy to say now, but that team should have had enough to beat them. Besides what is our best team. Ojo was anonymous today yet was brilliant midweek. Maclennan aswell. We do need to be able to rotate the team at times and it was a reasonably strong lineup today.
-
Yeah, its nice to just play someone different competitively. If we do manage to get to the group stages Im sure there will be a couple of decent teams in there. Even if they are not well known Im pretty sure every fixture at this level will be competitive for us.
-
Thats a shame, I always hope that when players leave us they kick on.
-
Don't know much about qarabag but I feel as though we should have beaten limassol last time. Definitely the best draw out of those teams.
-
I thought that the point of this tournament was to cut down on qualifying rounds. Doesn't seem to have made much difference. And how is it that St Johnstone are guaranteed european football till xmas if there is still two qualifying rounds to play?
-
Breidablik it is 3-2 on average. Am I correct in thinking we win this we qualify?
-
Didn't realise it was on so early so only tuned in at half time. Didn't seem a great performance from there, but we are through so that's what matters. I think they are a decent side and obviously a bit fitter then us at the moment as well. How Ojo missed that chance I'm not sure, thankfully it doesn't matter. Looking like we will be facing Breidablik next round as they are 3-1 up on aggregate at half time.

But obviously that has to be an acceptable offer. You can guess that Fergusons agent has been letting clubs know that, so now you have Watford coming in with paltry offers of 1.2m. I don't even think its good for Ferguson if that's all they value him at. They clearly don't see him as a starter if they are only willing to pay that little. He will just be seen as a cheap bench warmer at that price.
-
The hun link will always be there because of his family connections, but could be a case he does want a move to the Premier league. If we said to Watford we want 3.5m + 20% sell on to mind there is no reason why we would accept the same from the huns. We can reject offers based on them being rivals and then there is the fact that a sell on fee from the huns is likely to be substantially less then a PL club.
-
And they've included the uncapped Rangers RB who has made 14 first team appearances. I thought Clarke would have had the balls to ignore the media. I'm not saying he's not going to be good in the long run but is 14 games enough time to tell? Is there anything to say this kid is better than Calvin Ramsey? If one of our defenders gets crocked do we really want to rely on a kid who has this little experience.
-
Boyle is a Dons supporter as well. I'm sure he has plenty of admirers with how he's been doing the last few seasons for hibs, but would be worth making an approach.
-
Wouldn't be a great signing. At 30 years of age he doesn't have much room for improvement and he hasn't been all that great over the course of his career.
-
Looked like Mcgeough that ended up wrong side of his man to me, Ive only seen it a couple of times mind. Hayes looks to be injured now aswell.
