  1. Right club not clubs Each season there are fewer and fewer prepared or allowed to pay out stupid wages and ill hazard a bet those that can are thinking long and hard before they push the boat out on long expensive contracts. no longer are they going to push the boat out for some mildly average SPL player who once scored a goal against the old firm. I just hope all these footballers have been saving or investing their money wisely because the 'pubs run by ex pro players' trade isnt exactly booming either
  2. Yes but several clubs have been put into administration in the last few years. Bournmouth, Rotherham, Southampton, Luton, Chester City, Wrexham, Boston, Leeds, York City, Huddersfied Town, Carlisle United, Stockport County, Port Vale, Swansea Watford , Cardiff & Coventry were only saved at the last minute. Unless they are going to the premiership (and how long will that last?) players are going to have to realise that like the silly house prices, silly footballers wages are coming to an end. Ill be interested to see what Severin picks up at Watford should the deal go through
  3. I hope players bear this in mind when they (or rather their agents) are making statements along the lines of 'give me more money or im off'
  4. Tom W's memory ages 13-15
  5. Have to wonder the effect of possibly not having a proper TV deal in place could have on SPL crowds. With only BBC brief BBC highlights at the moment (will we even have those if Setanta's footage isnt available) we are almost back to the early 90s (the days when Scotsport was good and sportscene only showed 1 scottish game and 2 premiership games). Since the only way you can see your club properly will be to turn up at the games can we expect boosted attendances despite the credit crunch and expense? Or will this only lead to more Liverpool, Chelsea, Man United, Arsenal etc shirts being seen wandering around scottish streets?
  6. Given the clubs (and indeed most other established SPL teams) attitude to Youth ie just have them to stick on the bench so we have our U21 quota, can we be sure that there havent been a fair few talented young scots players left by the wayside due to inadequate coaching in our country? In the days of Ebbe the press would often be touting a young player as the next big thing. Yes apart from Clark and Diamond i cant think of anyone else who eventually made it but at least there were sounds that there was potential in the ranks. Since Skovdahl left the only player I can recall ever being touted as a big thing in the media was Chris Maguire (I dont recall much being said about John Stewart). Was impressed with Pawlett and Patons contributions at Ibrox but dont recall any press coverage about them prior to that match. Was this a tactic by the club who were trying to protect the players or maybe Calderwood just wasnt interested in youth (which I have heard some people say was the case both with us and dunfermline), or is it perhaps that our coaches whilst being great players in their day aint good at developing young talent I have to admit that when I heard tell that Leighton was apparently favouring Esson over Preece a few seasons back I lost a bit of admiration for him. But in saying that langfield has come on leaps and bounds in the last couple of years so maybe that was a one off. Im interested to see if we start to see a few new young faces breaking into the first team under Mcghee and Leitch Who knows
  7. We havent exactly had a reputation for keeping our young players in the last few seasons. Suppose it depends on how much these lads get paid down govan way and if they would rather end up playing for the likes of Airdrie, Clyde, Albion Rovers or Morton as opposed to Peterhead, Montrose, Brechin etc Only way to stop huns etc snapping young boys up at 16 from non old firm clubs is to 1) Keep them past the age of 18, and 2) At least try to develop them so they get a chance at first team football. Currently they may as well head south because they have about as much chance of playing first team football for the old firm as they do Aberdeen etc. Shout you mouth off all you want miller but until they see guys like Pawlett getting regular games they will be easy targets.
  8. i just hope its better than the last time a new Aberdeen manager came up against a new celtic manager on the opening day of the season at pittodrie http://www.independent.co.uk/sport/football-new-era-starts-in-style-for-celtic-1110137.html The report kindly left out Eoin Jess missing a penalty :hammer:
  9. One thing id like to see added to that list is a win at tannadice I know its not as big a deal as a win at ibrox but it really irritates me the fact we havent won there since january 2006 (or if we are talking league its march 2005)
  10. is this their response to us picking up Aluko and Vidal? Pick random former english under 18 international from championship club? elaborate on how big a fanny he is
  11. This 1 year rolling contract malarky concerns me is it a case that McGhee has eyes to fuck off at the end of the season if celtic etc come calling, or that the club are looking to avoid a compensation payout should they wish to punt him at the end of the season? Didnt we have Calderwood and Nicholl on a 2 year rolling contract to begin with? Id like to think that with this appointment we have seen the end of our manager praising the opposition for 50% of our post match interviews and then blaming players for not understanding the tactics Id like to see interviews like Fergie's at the end of the 83 scottish cup final (copy the youtube link below into yer browser to see it) -http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GoSiBq2Q0MU-
  12. France v South Africa 1998 World cup In my Dads Discovery on an old skool LCD pocket TV...while driving Said TV was also used on several occaisons to watch world cup and champions league games while in the bath. Nothing like live electricity close to water to make things interesting ya really do stupid things when yer young
  13. Not too sure either way Yes he was a disaster at Fulham but he also took Northern Ireland from 127th in the world rankings to 27th in the space of 3 years and wycombe wanderers to the FA Cup semi final seems to revel being in charge of the underdogs and he can find better dutch trialists on teletext than any of Calderwoods 'contacts' can find in the dutch league
  14. Alex miller doesnt have the balls to come back to Aberdeen. Stewart Milne isnt stupid enough to let him near pittodrie Tis a pity yer too young to remember him Niall. You'd have seen a real fan protest that got the job done within 4 days instead of 3 months
  15. beginning to wonder why there was any hype about steve Lovell
  16. So thats europe on July 30th then Such a predictable final. Knew they had blown their chance when they failed to score in the first half. Only chance teams like Falkirk have is to get a 2 goal lead b4 halftime. Hampden apparently not sold out again
  17. 41C at Pitch level apparently. Fuck that!
  18. its on ITV in England but STV chose not to show any FA cup football this season (not even highlights) Im watching a live stream in ITV.com Bizarrely the Scottish cup final is on BBC1 scotland but they dont have the rights to show a live stream on BBC scotland Online???
  19. Fastes ever goal in FA Cup Final history perchance? Louis Saha - 24 seconds. Boro Fans must be having a little chuckle to themselves after that one
  20. So was this guy but i wouldnt have him as manager either
  21. My thoughts are that until the whole money-football relationship comes to a crashing halt down Englandshire it will be ni-on impossible for any scottish club outside the old firm to tempt any manager from down south unless he has been sitting on his ass for several months with no offers. Aberdeen may be a name but as my Dad (Argyle fan) pointed out, we also suffer from the 'oh thats fucking miles away, im not going there' that Plagued Plymouth for many years. Im almost resigned to Mcghee being hired in the next 2 weeks and since I have slowly been losing interest in the day to day runnings of AFC these last few weeks I dont think i really care if they do However if I see of hear of John Hughes or Jim jeffries anywhere near the city of Aberdeen .... [flash=200,200] I dont envy the people in my office
  22. Have we actually 'shelled out' for Calderwood and Co? Hes apparenlty talking to the redheads and making sly digs at AFC but has it been confirmed that hes been paid off, or are we to see 'calderwood takes up post at <insert lower league english team here> in the next couple of days which might shed some light on why the rumours about him leaving were circulating almost a week before the hibs game?
