Since its gone a bit quiet on the new stadium front here is a video of Brentford's new stadium which they will share with London Irish Rugby club . Supposed to be finished about March and have a capacity just over 17000 (About 5000 more than their old ground). im hoping to go see a game at their old ground before they move at the end of the season.

Watched the entire first season on the plane. Not as good as Rick & Morty but very enjoyable to the point I stayed back on the plane for an extra couple of mins after everyone else was off to ensure I saw how the final episode ended.

Not just there Manc. I watched in in Melbourne last sunday and it seems to be a new release in Oz. To compensate for whatever reason the new Shaun the Sheep movie seems to be doing the rounds in Kiwiland 3months after it was in the UK Cinemas.

The whole label of a singing session is such a stupid approach. It implies that if you want to make any noise etc you MUST be in a specific section and anyone who stands, makes a comment of god help them try an start a chant or song can be told to be quiet or perhaps even asked to leave. Also anyone who finds themselves in this section is now under pressure to join in with whatever the majority are doing and some of the shit sung by some of the Dons support I certainly dont want to be associated with. There are also the pricks who will bring in fireworks or insist on waving large flags throughout the game so you cant actually see. Ive seen enough arguments and near fist fights in the home sections without having the argument that anyone in a certain section must behave in a specific way. The idea of a 'family section' sort of works as it at least offers a controlled and safe environment for people to take their kids and not put up with drunk supporters club in and around them. The problem with the family section is it was far too big especially after they put the prices up for kids etc. I may have a hazy memory but the Merkland always seemed to be reasonably full for home games in the early 90s and my dad used to say this was due to very cheap tickets for children. Whatever that price was it seemed to have vanished by the time I got to Uni in 1998 and given how poor the view can be from the Merkland its no surprise people will move away from there when a few extra quid got them a better view. There was also a stupid period of time when anyone who didnt have kids was 'discouraged' from sitting there. Last time I was in the Merkland was a 1-1 draw with dundee back in October 2004. Turned up late and realised I only had £15 in my wallet so went to the Merkland turnstiles instead of the south and the guy selling the tickets actually tried to stop me getting in because I was on my own. I actually had to point out there was no formal rule about having to be accompanied by a kid and he was denying the club money it desperately needed. He relunctantly finally gave me a ticket just in time for me to see John Sutton score the opener. Soon as you start labelling large parts of a stadium you start making them less appealing to lots of fans and given whats on offer the last thing you need is to start putting doubt into potential fans minds

This sounds a bit too victorian asylum/ boarding school for my liking. I've seen the cold shower thing recommended for lots of things (some for health, others for punishment) as it is a form of shock therapy but I haven't seen any scientific evidence as to whether its use is a good of bad thing. As I understand it, shock therapy is based on suddenly stopping whatever mental or physical activity a person is experiencing essentially stunning them to a sudden stop. The dangers of doing this is actually putting the body into 'shock' which is a serious medical emergency. (See the dangers of trigger happy cops with tazers) If you were to try this I certainly wouldnt go longer than 30seconds if physically healthy. If you have any underlying physical health conditions I would be very wary. There were posters all around my local area warning of the dangers of cold water submersion. (fishing, sailing, kayaking were very popular) 'Be aware even in summer you can die in less than 2hrs in the water' That slogan was based on someone in a wetsuit or survival suit and the understanding was it shrunk to 15mins in the winter.

This I just saw 'red card-cosgrove' and assumed it was last ditch defending near dons box or at least in the Dons half but to go in that hard and with studs showing practically at the tics goal line was a silly but Id like to think it was just a rush of blood/ adrenaline. My understanding of the new rules is because of the momentum and the studs being shown, even if they the studs dont make contact now constitutes a red. But you never know it might be downgra....

I wonder if this could signal the end of overreliance on volunteer labour for stewarding and indeed first aid provision at the stadium? I used to be a first aid volunteer at various sports & music venues and I can't honestly say I felt prepared based on the training provided plus whilst being given parts of the uniform and a backpack, the emphasis was on each individual volunteer to provide the rest including actual first aid equipment - Bandages, pads, plasters, gloves, slings etc out of their own pocket. In return you could claim some travel expenses, at some places got a voucher for a free drink and snack, and got to see at about 2/3 of a performace or a game for free all be it from the sidelines or back of the venue. At the training I felt they were more concerned with providing volunteers than making sure those volunteers actually knew how to deal with the various scenarios they could face. I presume the various venues paid a relatively small amount to the charities to have these volunteer first aiders and there was a fair bit of pressure to put your name forward for fear of losing the venues gigs This pressure nee guilt-tripping was one of the reasons I jacked it in after about a year. There were some people who took it very seriously and were good first aiders in pressure situations, but there were also a few who were doing it for some sort of power-trip (as is sadly often the case in so many roles in society - a horrible side of the human condition) I don't know for sure but having seen the people who are stewards at the various stadiums/ concert venues etc around the UK I suspect they might be in a similar situation to the first aiders but with stewarding there are more opportunities for the power-trip jobsworth, and the 'bully's henchman' ie runs in when the fight is over to kick the loser on the ground. At the same time there will be lots of these volunteers who will understandably back away from their stewarding duties when faced with a drunken or even just a stressed/ emotional football fan which essentially makes them as useful as a wedding usher. Will we perhaps see a drive towards 'professional' stewards who are actually employed by the football clubs (salary, pensions etc), all of which will have proper training, proper codes of conduct, proper support, and a proper complaints and disciplinary process?

Not expecting much but have found some dark irony in the stories about non-accessible polling stations down south causing issues for elderly voters. Good indicaiton of how much the tory Englandshire parliament values the elderly. Not an expert but 12million - Land purchase - Land preparation which included removal of toxic materials buried under the so called green-belt. Good chance these contained asbestos which is not cheap to get rid of in small amounts let alone several tonnes of the stuff. Specialist subcontractors will have thought it was Christmas 2 days into the dig - Additional CAT scanning to confirm exact position of every single service running through the land (is there not an oil pipeline in there somewhere?) - Alterations to and formation of new road junctions which will have required permits, traffic control,specialist sub-contractors. - Installation large scale drainage system both surface and foul which will be larger than necesary for the training ground as it will eventually also have to cope with a 17k-20k stadium. - New Utility supplies which as with the drainage will be larger in perparation for the new stadium. Electricity supplies will have required at least one new substation maybe more. Water supply will have to sustain water tanks for watering grass pitches and potentially a future supply for fire fighting & sprinkler systems - New internal road network designed to take multiple large vehicles (trucks, supporters buses etc). As it will be open to the public and future escape route for the stadium it will require extensive external lighting (or at least provision for it when the stadium comes). - Then you have the cost of the pitches, buildings, floodlights, perimeter fencing, CCTV, Renewables(?), - Architect, Engineer, Planning Consultant and Contractor fees As for annual costs off the top of my head: - Insurances (Buildings, public liability etc) - Monitoring for CCTV and Fire Alarm - Business rates, Council tax - Salaries for on-site staff (Catering, medical, ground staff, security, admin) - If sewage system is a private then fees to service that - Utility costs - On-site catering, cleaning, maintenance, - Misc other costs As for judging use levels it only opened 4 weeks ago and at a time when Schools, sports clubs etc will already be established in their current facilities or in some cases may be taking a break because the weather is shit. If it is still deserted 6months for now then we start asking questions Floodlights being on could have been in preparation of a team or teams arriving to use the facilities or had perhaps just left?
