  1. Absolute crap or should that be carp given the fishing nature of your coment. Don't believe for one second that you genuinely think that way
  2. Happy to see Foster doing well also, just as long as his performances don't directly lead to success for the filth. Seems a reasonable enough article
  3. fixed it for you
  4. Coldest home game at home was v St Johnstone, possibly New Years Day 1983/1984'ish. Away game, would go with the choice of the Falkirk cup tie at Stenny's ground. Drove home for well over an hour, heating on full temp and still nae fucking thawed out when I got there
  5. God help us if this is the level of candidate we're attracting Why not go the full hog if we want a "newspaper" columnist as our new manager, and appoint his fellow columnist as his assistant. Hartson and the Flying Pig.
  6. Another year has passed, now six years since the little man was taken. Gone, but not forgotten RIP Zero
  7. Superb article on a number of counts: Even I am to young to remember the games against Clyde that the writer refers to, but I do remember Ally taking over the reins and doing exactly what he subserquently did to supporters of the national team........ installing a sense of pride and belief that we could be winners. His success in charge of the team that beat "ra Celtic by ra way big chap" was the first trophy I saw us win. I'm proud to say I'm seen all other through until the last in '95. Remember being disappointed when McLeod left and McNeill took over, but that disappeared quickly when within weeks of thr season starting we beat Ra Celtic at Pittodrie to go top of the league. A lot of folk forget that it was McNeil that signed both Archibald and Strachan ( what a couple of great bits of business ). And so we fast forward a number of years to Stark, incredible to think he scored 20 goals from midfield but was still a target for the boo boys in our support. Do you imagine Foster or Maguire getting it in the neck for that sort of goal scoring return.....ffs we'd kill nowadays for a striker that could deliver that. No doubt about nostaglia rules folks. Great article Bobby and thanks for posting it mate.
  8. Thought worthy of a thread on its own. Copied from P&J website. Would love to see Jess back at Pittodire some day, but not sure that the time is right Ex-Don Jess eyes Pittodrie return nottingham forest youth coach eoin joins list interested in becoming Reds manager By Paul Third Published: 04/12/2010 SEEING RED: Eoin Jess is among a growing list of candidates interested in the vacant Aberdeen manager’s post. Kevin Emslie More Pictures Eoin Jess wants to be the next Aberdeen manager. The former Don, who played for the Reds in two spells, is ready to make his return to Scottish football with his first club. Mark McGhee’s 18-month tenure as manager was brought to an end on Wednesday when he was sacked by the Dons and Jess, who will be 40 on December 13, wants the job. The former attacker, who played more than 300 games for Aberdeen, was linked with the vacant job at Hibernian in October but lost out to Colin Calderwood. He admitted his lack of coaching experience would go against him but hoped bringing an experienced man in the mould of Jocky Scott or Alex Smith as his assistant would compensate. Portsoy-born Jess, a youth coach at Nottingham Forest, was reluctant to discuss the vacancy in detail but admitted: “I would be interested in the job but, whatever happens, it would be nice to see the good old days brought back to the club.” Jess had a stroke two years ago due to a congenital disorder, with the root cause found to have come from him being born with a hole in his heart. The Dons have been inundated with candidates putting themselves forward. Former Hull City manager Phil Brown has registered his interest, although it remains to be seen if he would accept the role given the current financial parameters. Aberdeen can also expect the CV of Pat Fenlon, the Bohemians manager who was interviewed for the Dundee United job and considered for the Hibs position. Fenlon would have been installed at Tannadice had it not been for his Irish club’s compensation demands, which are no longer a stumbling block due to their financial problems. Former Aberdeen midfielder Michael O’Neill is also on the radar of the Dons after leading Shamrock Rovers to the League of Ireland title in October. O’Neill has a year left on his contract at Rovers but has yet to sign a new deal and is attracting attention. Former Don Billy Stark, John Hughes and Gus McPherson remain among the favourites and former Aberdeen forward Billy Dodds has also voiced his interest. The Dons will consider the candidates over the weekend before drawing up a shortlist to begin interviews by the end of next week Read more: http://www.pressandjournal.co.uk/Article.aspx/2038609#ixzz178PoqHkG

  12. I near chocked on my lasagne when that curly haired not remotely funny fucker on BBC1 said that former Hibernian manager John Hughes wanted the job and was awaiting the call. Well Yogi you'd be waiting one hell of a long time if it was anything to do with me. Pele or Aitken would get my call ahead of you

  14. I guess they couldn't really say an un named AFC player on the phone from Austria last night, or it might just have given it away !
  15. But of course to put a name to it wouls merely expose the individuals for what they are i.e fraudsters. An alternative train of thought however is that they are un named becuase the Retard just made it up
  16. Pretty reasonable article lifted from BBC scotland website written by Liam McLeod.................... "On a scale of one to two, I'd put the Celtic job above Aberdeen." Those were the words of Mark McGhee on his unveiling as Aberdeen manager in June 2009, having also been linked with his other former club. It was downhill from that moment. When they were uttered, there was an unease about the appointment, from the fans to the man himself. For most Dons supporters, there was a willingness for McGhee to do well. He is a Pittodrie legend - he always will be - from his playing days there. But the club has lurched from one disaster to another under his stewardship. Among the unwanted records broken under McGhee are a record European defeat (5-1 at home and 8-1 on aggregate to Sigma Olomouc), a record Scottish Premier League defeat (9-0 at Celtic just last month) and a miserable 17 wins in 62 matches with four points from the last 39. Cup defeats to lower-league opposition - Dundee and Raith Rovers - added to the pain, while the manager's dealings in the transfer market were also questionable. The swap deal that led to Ricky Foster moving from Pittodrie to Rangers, with perpetually injured striker Andrius Velicka going the other way, was and still is a head-scratcher. That left the Dons without a single senior full-back, with central defenders and midfielders being asked to perform that role. Other McGhee signings have failed miserably. There was also the treatment of winger Sone Aluko last year, when he went on international duty and was called back supposedly injured. Jim Leighton's sacking as goalkeeping coach was up there in the strange decision stakes. Coupling all that with the fact that most of Jimmy Calderwood's Dons' squad did not take to McGhee, it was never going to be a marriage made in heaven. But anyone who thinks that the club's problems have been solved by the axing of McGhee, along with assistants Scott Leitch and Colin Meldrum, will be mistaken. In the closing months of Calderwood's tenure, the club won only three of their final 16 SPL matches and went out of the Scottish Cup after a replay against First Division side Dunfermline. There was already a rot there. The board failed to keep together his and Jimmy Nicholl's best Dons team - the class of 2006-07 - that qualified for Europe. It is a rot that is threatening to push the loyal Red Army away for good and, if that is to be prevented, there needs to be more focus on the now and not the future new stadium - which, although needed, will need a Premier League club to fill it. McGhee and assistant Scott Leitch have been under pressure The club also needs to get out and about the north east - encourage school kids to games, marketing itself around the city better. Whoever the new manager is, he will have an almighty task reinvigorating the players who are already there. An out of work manager such as John Hughes or Gus MacPherson would be an attractive option for both the board - and the former managers of Hibernian and St Mirren. Former Chelsea and West Ham assistant Steve Clark came close to the Hibs job recently, while former Don Billy Stark - currently youth team coach at the Scottish Football Association - is another in the frame. Calderwood is unlikely to return to Pittodrie given the nature of his departure last May, but it is the players who must look in the mirror and ask if they gave McGhee 100%. Perhaps they will be happier with the next appointment than they were the last. McGhee's final few weeks since the annihilation at Celtic Park have been painful viewing and listening. Quotes about the supernatural being to blame were testament to that. For McGhee, his CV - and, indeed, Wikipedia page - have been permanently soiled by this sorry 18-month saga.
  17. Were Hartley and McGlynn at Tynecastle at the same time ?
  18. Just home from hours of travelling to find this out. It is without doubt correct course of action for the club to take, albeit should have happened four weeks ago post the 'Tic debacle, however better late than ever. Genuinely sorry that it didn't work out for Dingus. Has the pleasure of watching him week in week out during his playing days with us, and those will be my lasting memories of him. Successor ? Have said it before someone like Jocky Scott as boss, with maybe Simpson or Cooper like him as his number two being coached into the role. Alternatively lets be bold and go for Curbishley

Six fucking hours to get here on train yesterday. Meeting cancelled at 7.30 this morning, now stuck in the Toon trying to get a train north. Just been looking at traffic cameras on BBC Scotland, things look horrific in central belt. Might be another night away from home on the piss and charged to expenses
  20. Can't imagine that Paton going anywhere is going to save us a huge amount in wages. Guess he can take comfort from the way he is being treated in the fact that he'll be at Pittodrie after McGhee has left.
