I prefer to look at it as wouldn't rather than couldn't. And I believe on this occasion the club made absolutely the right decision, just like the decision last summer not to give Hoilett the two year contract he wanted.

Surprised that if he had interest in Europe or the States that he hasn't gone there, however he has won a watch financially with a four year deal which will gross him over a million as a basic salary. Kudos to AFC for not being stupid enough to give him the deal until summer of 2029. We've lost better than him before and survived.
