  1. Summed up perfectly above. JDV was a revelation yesterday in my opinion. Could it be down to the fact he's actually getting a run of games in the team ?

  3. DONS hero Drew Jarvie was recovering in hospital today after undergoing life-saving heart surgery. The 60-year-old underwent a heart valve repair after it was initially thought he would need a valve replacement. Drew’s wife said the operation had been a complete success and he was recovering well. Janette Jarvie said: “He’s doing really well and he’ll be delighted to hear everyone is asking for him. “The staff here have been absolutely fantastic and we’ve been really well looked after. “Drew has been having hospital appointments for about 10 years and the doctors in Aberdeen have been fantastic too. “We knew he was going to need the operation at some point but that’s it done now.†Surgeons at Golden Jubilee National Hospital, near Clydebank, had intended to carry out a heart valve replacement but were able to repair the valve instead. Drew has been moved out of intensive care and into the High Dependency Unit. He could be moved to a general ward in a day or two and could be released from hospital early next week. Today fellow Dons legends wished the striker, who was part of the 1976 league cup and 1980 league winning sides, a speedy recovery. Drew formed a prolific partnership with fellow striker Joe Harper in the 1970s. The King of the Beach End said: “I hope he gets well soon – he’s one of my golfing partners and I’ve been carrying him for years! “He’s always saying he carried me when we played together so the least I can do is return the favour!†Dons spokesman Dave Macdermid said: “On behalf of everyone at the club, our thoughts are with Drew and Janette at this time and we wish Drew a speedy recovery. “We’re delighted to hear the operation went well and we’re looking forward to seeing him back at Pittodrie soon.†Former Aberdeen captain and Evening Express columnist, Stewart McKimmie, said: “I watched him when I was younger and he scored a lot of fine goals for Aberdeen. “He always gave 100% and is a really nice bloke. Football is his life and I wish him a speedy recovery. “He’s the kind of guy that football needs. He has still got a very keen interest in Aberdeen. I see him regularly at Pittodrie and I hope to see him back there again soon.†Birmingham City manager Alex McLeish said: “Drew is a great guy and I, along with my coaches Roy Aitken and Andy Watson, were saddened to hear that he has had to go into hospital. “I’ve known Drew a long time and Roy, Andy and I all worked with him at Aberdeen so on behalf of the three of us I’d like let him know that we’re thinking about him and to wish him a speedy recovery.†Drew – who played for Aberdeen between 1972 and 1982 – remains the Dons’ fifth top scorer with 85 league goals and a total of 137 for the club. He netted against both Fortuna Dusseldorf and Borussia Monchengladbach in European competitions. Drew helped develop the Dons’ young guns during a spell as under-21 coach at Pittodrie and was involved with players including Darren Mackie and Zander Diamond.

  10. Alright fellow Dons ? Just home from afternoon/evening on the piss in the Weeg to log on here and read this. I personally was at this game where "Junkie" Johnstone attempted to murder McMaster by STAMPING on his throat. I was at that game, at the time I was fucking raging about it, almost thirty years on I'm still fucking raging.......how dare these fucking erseholes go on about about the Simmie incident as the start of the hatred between the two clubs... this preceeded it by at least seven years.....that CUNT Johnston would have been charged with attempted murder had it happened on the streets. I personally hope he rots in hell, but only after dieing a very slow painful and public death, the happening of which I will celebrate even more than the passing of Margaret Thatcher Hateley, Hurrlock, Brown, Goram and all...none of them come close....this wankstain is the champion of all Hun bastards

  12. Aberdeen set to hand new deal to Darren Mackie Dec 23 2008 By Ian Orr DARREN MACKIE was celebrating yesterday after being promised a new deal by Aberdeen. The striker is the first of six Pittodrie stars whose contracts expire at the end of the season to be assured of his future. His super strike at Inverness on Saturday was his 50th for the club and boss Jimmy Calderwood reckons there are many more goals to come. The Pittodrie manager said: "Deciding whether to keep Mackie or not was always going to be one of the easiest I've made as a manager. "It's made, now it is only a matter of sorting out the financial side and I don't anticipate any problems. "He is one of the key players in the squad. He is Aberdeen-daft, he really does live the dream every time he pulls on the shirt. That's why I get baffled when some supporters have ago at him because he is one of them. "He would do anything to help the team win. He's also a gem to work with and I want him at this club for as long as possible. "His goal at Inverness was probably one of the best of his career and I was delighted to see him pass such a significant landmark. "This season his touch has improved and his confidence is back. I'm sure he'll be an even bigger handful for defences in the second half of the season." Unlike Hearts and Dundee United, Calderwood insisted there is no pressure to sell top players during the January transfer window. He added: "The way the club has organised the finances means we can sustain what has been planned for at least the next two years. "That doesn't mean we won't sell any players. If a big club came in with a silly offer we'd have to consider it, just like every other side in this country. But I'm under no pressure to sell which makes a huge difference." Unlike last season, when Michael Hart and Chris Clark were sold in January, Calderwood could keep all six players whose contracts are due to expire until the summer even if they choose not to accept new deals. He said: "If they decide they don't want to stay we have to look at what is best for everyone. But I'd be very surprised if that's the case with all six. "My priority is to make sure there is a squad good enough to sustain a challenge for the European places and hopefully everything will be sorted out very soon. "Everything we do next month hinges on what those six decide to do. That's why we haven't really made firmplans to sign anyone at the moment. We've identified possible targets but it's been more a case of doing our homework in case we have to move quickly next month."
