  8. Well you did ask for it WE'RE STILL IN WITH A SHOUT 12:00 - 12 January 2008 The Dons have launched a second bid to persuade Barry Nicholson to stay at Pittodrie. The midfielder, who is due to play in today's Scottish Cup fourth round clash at Falkirk, looked set to leave the Dons along with fellow contract rebels Michael Hart and Chris Clark. But manager Jimmy Calderwood confirmed they have resumed talks with Nicholson in the hope of getting him to follow Zander Diamond's lead by signing a new deal. "Barry gave us an opening by saying he definitely doesn't want to leave," said Jimmy. "We've spoken to him again to see exactly what he's looking at and will take it from there. "It's not just down to money for Barry. "He's played 400 games in Scotland and this could be his last chance to sample what it is like down in England. "But as long as he is still here we will be doing what we can to persuade Barry that staying at Pittodrie is the better option. "It's easier for the other two lads because they've got offers to go to England. "I'm sure the offers will come for Barry as well, but until they do there has to be a chance he could end up staying with us." Hart and Clark look set to seal moves to Plymouth Argyle if the English club meet Aberdeen's £400,000 asking price and can agree terms with the duo. But Calderwood dismissed suggestions the news of them leaving has harmed morale ahead of the Falkirk match. "The three contract rebels have been getting dog's abuse from the other players," he said. "It has actually helped to lighten the mood and get them in the right frame of mind for today's game." The Dons are also on the brink of sorting out Sone Aluko's loan deal from Birmingham City. Calderwood said: "I spoke to Birmingham boss Alex McLeish the other night and we expect to get all of that sorted out next week." Aluko is doubtful for today's game because of shin splints and the flu. Falkirk will be without striker Michael Higdon, who has a knee injury. The Dons see that as a boost, although they know they will have to improve on their performance in last week's 0-0 SPL draw with the Bairns if they want to make the next round. Calderwood said: "If we play like we did a week ago we will get our backsides skelped. "The players know how important the game is, they are used to tough ties in this competition."
  9. http://boards.footymad.net/mboard/fmb.php?tno=426&fid=204&sty=2&act=1&mid=2130905663 Some guy on PNE site reckons Hart has signed and Nicholson also going there next week But we all know Barry Nic is staying here
  10. : Stuart Duff and trialist Dave Bus are being lined up to fill the void created by Michael Hart's departure from the Dons. Aberdonian Duff, a previous transfer target for the Dons, has been told he can leave Dundee United on a free transfer. That is likely to at least prompt an approach from Aberdeen for the 25 year old, who is an avid Dons fan. Dons boss Jimmy Calderwood wouldn't comment on Duff, but was happy to hint Dutch defender Bus could replace Hart, who is in talks with Plymouth Argyle after rejecting a new three year deal. Bus, will return to De Graafsachap after training today. But Calderwood hopes to persuade the Dutch club to allow the big defender to come back on loan until the end of the season. Calderwood said: "Bus would certainly ease the pain if Michael Hart does leave before the end of January. "That's why I'm keen to get him here on loan for four months. "It would give us a good chance to have a look at him and decide if he can replace Hart in the long term. "He's made a good impression so far and I reckon Bus would be well suited to the Scottish game." Calderwood hinted more trialists could arrive soon as he looks to strengthen his squad.
  11. So what kind of reception did the contract rebels get today then

  23. WTF
  24. Aye, just reckon as other have said Barry Nic is a level headed family man, that appears to enjoy his fitba and life in Aberdeen. Absolutely convinced that if JC agreed new deal, then Nicholson would follow suit.
  25. Tad harsh in my opinion ST. However important thing is the boy has signed on for another three and a half years, and personally speaking absolutely delighted he has. Lets ensure he gets an extra loud cheer when the name is read out on Sat.
