Article in P&J this morning about Nilsen looking for a move back to Norway. Might not be the worst outcome for us given his age, contract length, likely wage and playing time. Aberdeen central midfielder Sivert Heltne Nilsen could soon be on the move back to Norway. The 34-year-old reunited with former Elfsborg boss Jimmy Thelin by joining the Dons in summer 2024, abruptly giving up the Brann Bergen captaincy in the process – a decision which did not go down well across the North Sea. Norway newspaper Bergens-Tidende now reports “several Norwegian clubs have been contacted by people connected to” Nilsen to float a transfer back to Scandinavia. Sandefjord are said to be one of the club’s contacted, but newspaper BT say they are not interested in signing Nilsen. Geir Morten Nilsen, the Aberdeen player’s uncle, is known to be his agent, and is well-connected in Norwegian football. The Press and Journal understands Aberdeen are unaware of any such machinations involving Nilsen and his Dons future. Aberdeen’s Nilsen currently out injured Brought to Aberdeen on a three-year deal, which runs out in 2027, Nilsen has been viewed as Thelin’s on-field liuetenant, having captained the Swede’s Elfsborg side in the Allsvenskan during their first spell working together from 2019 to 2021. The middle-man missed the latter part of his first season in Scotland – including the Scottish Cup final win in May – after suffering a freak eye injury in training, with initial fears Nilsen had a detached retina and his career might be in jeopardy. But he was able to avoid surgey and returned to Aberdeen for pre-season. Nilsen was back starting regularly for the Dons at the start of this campaign, though he came in for criticism from fans for his performances during their miserable season opening. The veteran has been absent from the squad for last five matches – including Thursday’s vital 0-0 Conference League draw at AEK Larnaca – with a hamstring injury. Nilsen’s last match in red was for the club’s B side, as he played 90 minutes as an over-age player in a 2-2 Evolution Trophy draw with Elgin City on October 11. On Wednesday, at his pre-match press conference, Aberdeen gaffer Thelin said Nilsen would also miss Sunday’s Premiership clash with Motherwell, as he is only expected to return to action after the upcoming international break.

Tad premature, although it was actually correct at the time of posting, we are however at the end of the evening back down to fourth bottom JMG

Agree that the core of the team is potentially there now. We still require the Rama replacement as you said. Watson is out of contract next summer but the red tops reporting Celtic are looking at him. Whether or not that is true is questionable BUT there will be bigger teams than us sniffing about him. That said we should be asking the question if he is one the recruitment team fancy. Phillips, I'm not sure about, Robinson seems to be able to get a tune out of him, not sure if that's down to Robinson's coaching and style of play or the player himself having given himself a shake after having to step down a level ? Polvara, I wouldn't be surprised to see him move on to somewhere in Europe and perhaps we should look at trying to get a fee for him in January if no new contract is forthcoming. Yengi or Ambrose out on loan if anyone would take either of them. Sidibeh has a record of a goal every six games or so with St Johnstone and don't think he is a player we should be recruiting. Shady Mo is one of those things, you just don't realise how much you miss until you no longer have it. @OrlandoDon prepare yourself, Frame will either be put out on loan come January or potentially more likely moved on permanently

Out Golf (weather permitting) Red TV or Motherwell TV if the stream on Red TV is its usual pish Nothing much 3-1 Armstrong, Lazetic & Yengi @Jute2 I wasn't on morphine and would agree with your analysis of the game at Fir Park. For ninety minutes I thought we looked as much like winning that game as we did losing it tbh
-
P S. we are up to to fifth bottom
-
Nothing less than we deserved Sorry for doubting you Milanovic could and should have won it for us but Angelski could also have won it for them. All things considered a decent point for us and we move on Jack Milne our MOTM
-
Half time Nothing each Could we nick this on the second half
-
Jesus, what a fucking strike off the post that was

Simple explanation https://cyprus-mail.com/2024/08/20/cap-of-800-away-fans-set-for-high-risk-football-matches Sure this was explained as soon as the ticket allocation was announced. Sure this was reported in the red tops. Scotland's national broadcaster must have missed this unfortunately

Tim's a goal down in Norway

Half an hour in, at the risk of jinxing it, we have looked pretty solid so far.

See Shamrock Rovers play against AEK Athens this evening. Interesting to see how the Irish get on and gauge exactly where we now sit in terms of European football
-
Could easily be TLG, so many different formations nowadays Oh for the days when teams used to play five up front
-
3-5-1-1 or 3-5-2 ? Fuck it, it could be any number of permutations

Forty nine years ago I saw my first League Cup final win with a 2-1 (AET) victory over The Victims with goals from Drew Jarvie and The Brush (RIP). Ally McLeod's (also RIP) finest hour as Aberdeen manager. I remember being absolutely euphoric, little did I know what the next ten years or so would bring us Halcyon Days indeed

Not me This is the only Conference League game I am missing this year (home or away). Couldn't justify taking another three or four days away from my business unfortunately

Absolutely gutted to learn this evening of the passing of Willie Young ex Aberdeen, Arsenal, Spurs, Notts Forest and Norwich City I remember Willie breaking into the Aberdeen team and then us selling him for £125k soon thereafter. Young never got the Scotland caps he probably deserved owing to having been one of the Copenhagen Five who received life time bans from the SFA. Also know for being the man who got the rules of the game changed after a FA Cup final incident involving Paul Allen RIP "Big Willie"

Apparently on the radar of Hibs Think he'd be better suited elsewhere to be honest.

We'll find ourselves in Dire Straits

So this is the one of the six Conference League games I'm not attending. Not sure where the confidence that we can get something out of this is coming from. Whilst Cyprus might not be the greatest power in European football, Larnaca sit second top of the Conference League and we sit rock bottom. They have already beaten AZ and Crystal Palace, not sure there is any Scottish team at present would be doing that, far less us. Can't see anything other than a defeat to be honest, the important part for me is the level of performance and to demonstrate that we are learning lessons from the harsh experiences we have had. Again being brutally honest, I'm not really sure this will be the case BUT will be delighted to be proved wrong here. Out Working TNT Sports Moaning like fuck about another inept performance 4-0 (no scorer)
