Dont know where to stand on this one. JC would be right to take a hard line with unruly players challenging his authority but on the flip side his tactics are shite. Its a toughie

Willie Miller looks at positives from Dons' season
tlg1903 replied to Kowalski's topic in Aberdeen Football Club
Yeah i know what you mean ajja, the only player/s i'd be disapointed about leaving are miller and nicholson. The squad definitely needs a spring clean, particularily in midfield. Hell it might even give seve a kick up the ass enough to make him the player he was a few seasons back. -
Unfortunately its not stopped me getting dogs abuse, mainly from fucking ICT fans

Didn't see it, im 5 hours behind uk time and woke up just after it finished. You know its weird, i thought i'd been through it all in terms of disapointment in the 90's and early 0's. Unfortunately not, aberdeen are still able to bring me to new lows. Its hard to comment on a game i've not seen but this really is a kick n the teeth. Losing a semi to utd was hard to take but at least they are a decent side. Calderwood has a lot to answer for after today. He's had some impressive results in charge of aberdeen but there is no excuse for shipping 4 goals to a 1st division side

Lee Miller and Barry Nicholson in for contract talks next week
tlg1903 replied to mizer's topic in Aberdeen Football Club
Yep i think so to. Its a shame but thems the breaks -
I'd go soutar for this one as i dont think he's done anything to warrant being dropped. Mind you he didnt the last time either but JC was right to make the change given clangers performance against dnipro. When it comes down to it i reckon clangers is a better shot stopper than Soutar, can see him playing in the final providing we dont fuck up on sat. Personally its not a decision i envy calderwood having to make.

It hardly ruined his career VDA just his final game. Probably Anton Rogan, Mark walters played for the other half of the axis of evil No surprises there

24:10:1995 against the huns in the league cup semi. For years this was the best day of my life. Was at the 4-0 game and though obviously gutted it didnt seem that bad as it was such a joke having to play a striker in goal for 88 minutes. My worst hampden memory doesnt involve the dons im afraid. It was the scotland italy game last year. It was hard enough seeing them get the last minute winner but i was holding it together. Then i got a text saying that it had been a foul on hutton and that we had been robbed. Needless to say i lost the plot a bit and went on a total bender! On the flip side though the bounce when ferguson scored was without doubt the best i have ever been in.
-
I was told by a hun that it was the 17th which left me distraught as i would have been on a plane when the game was being played. Thankfully a good samaritan made my year when she informed me that it was in fact the 24th which is also the first day of a 3 week holiday for me. In the words of glen quagmire "Gigggigigigigigdy"

Some of them didn't. Couldnt help but snigger when i saw this from some boy on caley thistle online. "Will be same old story....level till last few mins then they will nick it at the last moment" I still think that in terms of getting it right up them lovell's last minute equaliser at pittodrie last season tops the lot though. I dread the day they beat us, in a perverse way i kinda hoped that it would happen today since i was 8000 miles away and wouldnt have to face the consequences

First ict away game i've missed in two years. Gutted yet delighted! The ICT fans i know are not happy at all!!!!!

Is not achieving a top six place excusable?
tlg1903 replied to capitalsharpie's topic in Aberdeen Football Club
Yeah that is the shitter of the season not the league form. Im still hopefull we might keep miller and nicholson. I a cup final leading to europe next season might be eonough to get them to re-sign -

tlg1903 replied to capitalsharpie's topic in Aberdeen Football Club
At the start of the season im sure we all answered the hopes for the season post either here or on hat. I for one said that i wanted a good run (group stages) of europe but more importantly a cup final. No disrespect to qots but i reckon that my big wish is in the bag. Its been a hell of a season full of highs and lows and whilst work prevented me from a euro away game i did at least make the copenhagen game. I can see where you are coming from ajja and we are certainly inconsistent but in terms of growing as a team im not so sure. I think the squad will have learnt a lot from the rigours of playing in europe and the knackering effect it clearly has. Add to this the cup runs we must have played at least 15 games more than we had this time last season. These were all very meaningfull games too and i think the benefit from this will be seen toward the end of the season and certainly next. If we had a five more players in the squad i think we would have been a lot more consistent. -
Whatever

Actually when you think about it mackie and calderwood are remarkably similar. Both frustrate the hell out of you but seem to pull it out of the bag just when you least expect it. Well done Dazzlin!

I think we are thinking of a different steve tosh. He grafted alright but lets face it running was never his strongest suite. Tosh always got stuck in and imo played the captains role regardless who was actually wearing the armband. It was after tosh left that anderson finally stood up to be counted in terms of a leadership capacity.
-
The rest were total muppets but steve tosh was the heart and soul of our team and i was gutted when he left. I was in cardiff library listening online when he scored against utd and nearly got barred from the place, apparently shouting "take it you arab scum" in such place isnt acceptable.

Aberdeen v Rangers: Official Match Thread
tlg1903 replied to Dandy_Don's topic in Aberdeen Football Club
I've thought all week that it would just be typical afc to win today. we will probably get pumped but i will not be surprised in the slightest if we win. Especially since im 8000 fucking miles away and couldnt savour it properly -
I've never had a problem getting tickets for parkhead to be honest, been about 5 time in the past 3 years. Ibrox on the other hand i've only ever been once, its a nightmare. Thing is like most things in the spl the old firm are in the driving seat. The rest of us are broke so cant afford to turn down the revenue of selling them 4-5000 tickets for our grounds. Personally id say fuck the money and give them the same percentage of seats at pittodrie that they give us at ibrox. I think that would be about 300 seats. Worth doing at least once, stick the fuckers in a corner of the main stand and watch them take a hissy fit in the press about it.

Its an interesting point you make baggy. The thing with calderwood is that he's got this knack of getting results in the games he really needs to. Eg hearts at tynecastle last season with barry nicks late equaliser, the dnipro away game, copenhagen at home etc etc. Hell you can even go back to a few seasons ago when we beat inverness 1-0 to get into the top 6. I am not the guys biggest fan, he's too much of a tinkerer for my liking but he does get results and thats what chairmen look for when appointing new managers. The biggest problem with JC isnt on the pitch though. The fans have NEVER united behind him which looking from the outside must seem odd. I think the only way that they would is if he wins the scottish cup. This would in turn, ironically enough, pretty much ensure a bid from another club for his services.

The only thing i would say in defence of maguire is that in our best league performance of the season against utd at todders he played really well on his tod up front. When i saw the line up i shook my head and shuddered but it all clicked together nicely that day. I've not been to a game since january 2nd but i think the biggest problem for maguire is that he never seems to play the same position more than two games in a row. Clearly though he's not doing himself any favours with his media comments.
-
I totally agree ajja. Didnt get to see or even listen to the game but when an english colleague was ripping the piss at the final score it didnt really bother me. Craic is luca toni gets paid more in a month than it cost for our entire starting lineup last night. We have done amazingly well to get as far as we have and i hope we made a decent amount of dough out of it. The only bad thing about our cup runs has been the disappointment of the league form. It has only gone to highlight the lack of strengh in depth that we have. If we pull our socks up we might be able to make a fight for third, its there for the taking imo. However i am sceptical of this with JC's tactical prowess being key to doing this. If we lose to celtic in the cup game i believe the season is over

Thats a belter of an idea for a story. Make sure you post the results of it up here

Calderwood is never going to get sacked after just getting a new contract, not unless we suddenly end up in the relegation dogfight which i feel is unlikely. If i was to choose a new manager though i would want either mcghee or eric black. I think the past few games have shown that basically we have bitten of more than we can chew. The cis cup accompanied by the euro run, league games and getting to the quarters of the scottish cup have been simply too much for our very small squad to handle. Given our upcoming run of games i cant see this improving until we are out of europe and lets face it out of the scottish cup too. After that i think our league form will improve but the real question is wether or not 3rd place will still be achievable. Recent weeks have hurt a lot, im glad im nearer the cape horn than the northern lights at the moment, but i still view this as a succesfull season as we have taken in good money from our euro run and have competed in the cups. Hampden would have been nice but if we keep on progressing maybe next year we might get there.

I'd take hartson in a second. His goal scoring record is excellent, he would bang them in for us
