Break up in the fourth, should be able to close it out now.
  2. I agree that our contract dealings are a shambles. I agree that there are many factors behind this such as financial constraints and some of the various non-playing staff over the past few years. I don't believe that it is all one man's fault and that he should be criticised irrationally until he leaves his post.
  3. So when good young players are developed its down to Lenny Taylor, but when one slips through the net its Miller's fault?

Into the fourth round of the Aussie Open today, where victory would pair him with Nadal in the quarters. Anyone reckon he has a chance this year? Is this the year he wins a major, fulfills potential, becomes next Fred Perry etc etc...
  6. Makes you wonder why McGhee decided to punt Crawford on loan when he knew that Considine was carrying a niggling injury. Even if he's not a big fan of the kid it would have alleviated the problem in the short term.
  7. Wasn't this the idea behind signing Owen though? A plan which hasn't really bore the fruit that some expected. A mate of mine (a United fan) reckons the lad Mame Diouf is the one to step up to the plate, haven't seen in him action yet though so I'm not sure whether this is the answer, long or short term.
  8. In terms of re-establishing our position at the correct end of the table, when put into context of the previous 10 years, he was a success on the pitch. The league performances plateaued however, and following poor cup performances he was justifiably removed. Whether this makes him a good manager or not is a matter of opinion , but to deny his achivements with us, whilst citing a 'loser mentality', seems a little churlish.
  9. Nonetheless, the extent to which he failed on the pitch is not as great as you make out. Surely if he was an unequivocal failure you would have little need to resort to various press ramblings as a stick to beat him with, as the results would perhaps speak for themselves? As for where JC ends up later on in his career, do you really care? He's proved himself as a capable manager by succeeding in stabilising AFC, of that there is no doubt at all and of course this is the only thing that matters. To allow your view of this to be clouded due to the incredibly insulting/frustrating/hurtful things he's said only evokes a certain bitterness that you accuse him of.
  10. Things I liked about Jimmy Calderwood: 1. Our league placings improved markedly after his arrival 2. He won more games than his predecessors 3. He led us to memorable games against Copenhagen, Bayern and the like Things I didn't like about Jimmy Calderwood: 1. The football was a little primitive at times 2. He had a poor domestic cup record, with occaisionally gutless pperformances in these competitions Anything else to me, and I'm sure many others, pales into insignificance. I don't think judging him personally through his media work is at all relevant compared to his results on the pitch.
  11. Plenty street parking in Letham just up the hill from the ground, takes around five minutes to drive there from toon.
  12. You mean you aren't?
  13. Perhaps the comparison isn't the unreasonable aspect, but the defence of McGhee's shortcomingsthrough blame on his predecessor. Where we finish at the end of the season will be down to the current incumbent more than anyone else, after all, so he shouldn't be exempt from fair criticism. By the same token, I would be highly surprised if there were any supporters who aren't backing MM at the moment. Edit: Ambiguity removed
  14. Its seldom the case that a referee gives a penalty when the striker gets a shot (or sort of in this case) away, even when the keeper goes on to commit GBH in the area. Nae saying its right but it often seems to be the way when, to use a tired cliche, it'd be a foul anywhere else on the pitch.
  15. The myth that any Dons fan wants McGhee to fail is absoloute nonsense. Having had a peek over at the hat, some amount of shite appears to be flying in all directions. The need to compare McGhee to anything that occurred before he arrived is self-defeating. Take the squad on its merits. Take each game on its merits. Take McGhee on his merits. Back in the real world, he could be doing better, but hopefully we'll get a finisher in this month. Having scored so infrequently and yet still lying 6th, a few goals here and there would make a considerable difference.
  16. Just lock him in the broom cupboard with a contract, he'll sign it eventually.
  17. As mentioned above we looked comfortable in possession without really threatening. The lack of presence from corners is worrying, similarly from throws; when we've got folk like Grassi or Foster who can lob it into the box why can't we use them effectively? It would have only taken one clever set piece to take care of a poor St Mirren side early on. Perhaps it wasn't the wisest plan to go into a game which we dominated possession-wise with only one striker, it restricted us going forward and often led to the aimless hoof following a neat string of passes. Mackie on his own up top worked fine against United but tonight when we required more imagination than endevour it left us short on attacking options. Wonderful thing though, hindsight. Individually no-one really shone out, except of course Ifil for his ability to find touch from any situation imaginable. Who'd have though a fucking square pass could be so difficult?
  18. Sounds like Pele's. Except there's no cooking, of course.
  19. Cheers min
  20. Without wishing to take the EE at face value, I imagine it'd be more logical to punt some of our underperforming strikers than farming out a useful prospect. Edit - Didn't read the above, great minds etc.
  21. Is that a new een? Recently read The Ghost and was quite impressed. Nae sure which one of his to try next, as he seems to have a vast number of novels on a similar theme.
  22. Was he actually recalled though, or just not permitted to play against his parent club? I'm sure thats fairly standard practice these days.
  23. I think that's a little harsh on Russell. He was hardly a vocal captain, but in terms of bravery I don't think he can be faulted at all, particularly in relation to some of the other players from this glorious era.
  24. Barton has had plenty of these epiphanies and then lumbered on to his next fuck-up. While he talks a good game for someone so unreliable, he is yet to prove that he is sound mentally with consistent performances on and off the pitch.
