Motherwell vs Aberdeen, Round 2 - The SPL
Reekie_Red replied to glasgow sheep's topic in Aberdeen Football Club
To be honest, this is the one match in Pa Broon's "Gimme Five" games that I am not fussed to lose. Sure I am a bit miffed that we've lost this game. But if it now means Motherwell are a step closer to overtaking the self-imploding Huns into 2nd place, then I'll accept this loss. First time I've ever smiled at a Dundee Utd win!! -
Andy Robinson has inherited absolute shite from Frank Hadden. Admittedly Robinson's done alright this season. The first three games of the 6 Nations were very promising. We were a Dan "Neep" Parks disaster away from beating the English. We played some fantastic stuff against the French (World Cup runners up less than six months ago!). And we only had ourselves to blame against a Welsh side who went on to win the Grand Slam. But its simple errors that cost us. Knock-ons should be almost non-existent at International level ... certainly for a team like Scotland who are one of the Tier 2 teams of World Rugby. There are some fantastic players in the Scotland team at the moment. Barclay, Brown, Jacobsen, Ford, Gray and Strokash and Vernon are the guts of a very very strong and very capable forward pack. And the likes of Ansbro, Blair, Evans, Laidlaw and the Lamont brothers in the backs are world-class! The bulk of the Scotland pack hits the try-line on a regular basis or the Glasgow and Edinburgh teams, and are more than capable of trouncing powerhouse teams like Leinster and Munster. But pull on a Scottish rugby jersey renders all of these players incapable of catching a ball, breaking the line, or creating an inside pass opportunity. You will never get into the Top Ten of world rugby if you are going to play rugby that the rest of the world teams learned at Under-15 level. Robinson is doing well. Give him another two seasons and I think we will be back up in the Top 8 and winning more than 50% of games. Binning Townsend was a good move for Scotland. He was only a flash-in-the-pan attacker in his playing days - having him coach our attack was only ever going to produce failure. Will be good to see what solidity Sean Lineen brings to the coaching of the team.

Hi hate St Patricks Day. Sure, if you live in Ireland, are from Ireland, or are at least 50% Irish then this is your day. But why must the whole world celebrate the Patron Saint of Eire? My stance is I refuse to celebrate St Paddys day until everyone in Ireland celebrates St Andrews Day

I stil remember the day I entered discussions with DandyDon about amalgamating StandFree.com with DandyDons.co.uk. First headline I remember seeing on the original DandyDons news website was "Peter Kjaer exclusive interview". It's been a very long road, but somehow DonsTalk has surfaced a decade old and stronger than ever! Hats off to the guys who took over the running of the site from me, Slim and DD. You guys have done an awesome job over the past three or four years. Do we get one of those stars above our logo for surviving a decade?

Nah, min. Murrayfield is a morgue. Has been ever since they redeveloped it. It used to have a cracking atmosphere when the old North and South Stands (or Red Stand and Blue Stand as they were on the tickets) were there. Good ol' fashioned terracing at its best. Standing shoulder-to-shoulder with opposition fans. Get in!! Now it's full of friendly families with their twee tartan blankets, packet lunches, and pish whispering of the national anthem. Everysooften Murrayfield lights up like its former glory. Me and my auld man picked up on cheap ex-debenture tickets for the 2000 game vs England - the debenture holders couldnae be fucked going to watch Scotland get a pasting and handed the wooden spoon in pishy wet conditions. Unbelievable atmosphere at the game, as most of the toffs didnt turn up in the stands, leaving the rest of us to pretty much shout, swear and cheer for the entire match. Haven't heard Murrayfield like that since that day.

"I have no interest, now or in the future, of becoming involved in the club." Good call. Let those bastards fester in their administration hell! -
Rangers FC manager Ally McCoist has been offered a role with Sky TV. However, concerns have been raised about his technical ability to install satellite dishes on Scotland's windy roofs  :haterangers:

Been trawling on a bit of a YouTube spiral this evening. Somehow I've been watching an ABC documentary on Ecstasy, the arguments for and the arguments against. I've taken the drug (albeit the last time was over 10 years ago now), and must admit that I've never had any bad experiences with it. The damning evidence against the drug in this documentary is based purely on individual, single-case experiences where some individuals had allergic reactions to the drug ... you know, kinda like how individuals have allergic reactions to nuts. What's your view on ecstasy? I don't know if a shit short-term memory is because fo ecstasy abuse or too many big hits whilst playing rugby in my teenage years. But I simply cannot see any evidence against the drug, other than the fact that some people (eg Leah Betts) drinking too much water and flooding their brains, that says anything against the drug. Should it remain a class-A drug alongside herion, cocaine, etc, or should the government's fears about ecstasy become relaxed?

Seen the EE online today suggesting there's three new trialists arriving today. I know about Uchechi arriving cos its all over the papers. But who are the other two? EE suggests they are both from NZ. I can't find anything anywhere else about these two. Anyone know who they are?

Rename it Aberdeen Orion FC, and we're almost back to where we started 110 years ago

How did he do on Saturday against Killie? Must admit when I heard the news I thought "there's only one Fallon I've ever heard of in football ... nae impressed if its the same one". Sure enough it is the same one. I've been to three All Whites games now, and Fallon has played in all three. He is definitely not of decent pedigree ... very much another Darren Mackie who will score of his arse a few times by accident, but the majority of us will be frustrated as 99% of his shots sail off into the RDS ... or Main/South Stands, in some cases!! But he'll score the odd goal, just like Mackie, at crucial times to make things all worth while. If we're scouting around NZ for players, there's much better strikers to be had such as Leo Bertos or Shane Smeltz
-
Seen Fallon quite a few times. Not the most gifted footballer, and I've seen him miss some real sitters. But he is a very hard worker and wouldn't look out of place in the SPL. He is an internationalist who often is paired with Chris Killen
-
I was genuinely excited at the prospect of Steve Lovell and Lee Miller upfront for us - could've been the best striking partnership since Shearer/Windass. Alas t'was not to be, predominantly thanks to Miller's form and Lovell's injuries. I remember Lovell when he was at Dundee, and thought to myself "why can't we have a striker like him?". The matches we played against Dundee when Lovell and Caballero were paired upfront would've been a delight to watch for neutral fans ... unfortunately they tormented our shit Steve Patterson inspired defence :-(

Can you name the Aberdeen Players 2000-2009? 15min quiz
Reekie_Red replied to mizer's topic in Aberdeen Football Club
70 out of 117. Admittedly, my memory has blotted out many of the bombscare signings that Pele made, so the period around 2003>2005ish was very vague and blurry -
Obviously I didn't see the game, but commentary was saying Hasselbaink pretty much dictated terms throughout the entire match. Anyone else confirm? If so, I'm shocked he only managed to get a move from Hamilton to Helen Mirren in the summer

Redweb: Northsound 2 nets AFC commentary deal with SPL

Well the above IP Shield thingy worked. Got heaps of dodgy porn-popups every time I clicked on anything, but I did manage to listen to NS2 completely uninterrupted from overseas!! Woot! -

I finally found a UK proxy shield. It installs a shield automatically, finds a UK IP address, and thus lets you listen to UK streams and watch UK-only video from overseas. See: http://www.watch-bbc-iplayer.com -

Fantastic news. Over the past few seasons, my following of the Dons has declined as, although finding live TV matches online was easy as pie, finding a way of (nae exactly legally) streaming the radio coverage to NZ was near on impossible. Aye, I know I should've subscribed to RedTV, but I'm a Scrooge and dinnae like paying for anything on the internet! The return of NS2's commentary means I can now listen to the games again. Friggin fantastic!!!!! -
Aye, Russell donated his signing-on fee directly to the Pittodrie youth system. Think I remember reading quotes from Russell himself to this effect

Well, all EPL clubs can only register a maximum of 25 players for the forthcoming campaign (well, up to the transfer window, anyway). With most EPL clubs holding more than 25 senior players on their books, could well be a chance for Pa Broon to net a really decent striker on a season-long loan deal.

Got to be good for the Scottish game. Hell of a lot better idea than the previous SPL rule where you had to have a minimum of two U21s in the match squad - which sucked cos the Old Firm just popped these two kids on the bench and never played them
