  1. Only selling at the clubshop is incredibly narrowminded of AFC. It's well documented that a huge portion of AFC fans live outwith the city. Many fans don't go near Aberdeen unless it's matchday. Have you ever been in the club shop on matchday? Friggin bedlam! At Christmas time, are these parents going to go to Aberdeen specifically to visit the club shop, or are they gonna pop down to their local "sports fashions" shop and get whatever is there? The economically-mined parents are gonna stay in their hometown (or at least go to the closest city, such as Inverness, Elgin, or whitiver) and look for the next best thing. Here's hoping the parents go to the local sports shop and get a fishing rod, a squash raquet, or a Scotland top. Chances are, though, that one of these days some unaware auntie is gonna pop down to said sports shop and buy their kids the latest "football top" ... which just so happens to be either blue or green/white-striped.
  2. See I was thinking that too. I would love a striker of Riordan's ability to be snapped up by Broon. Broon does say he's hopeful of landing at least one relatively big name.
  3. Think of it as SPL quality without the SPL weather. Standard is shit, but the crowds are getting bigger and bigger as each season passes. Melbourne Heart, for example, were only formed in 2009, and they're the smaller of two teams from the same city. But they are already pulling crowd averages of around 14000. Whilst the SPL tends to be full of players from lesser known countries trying to be noticed by English clubs, the A-League tends to be full of players in the twilight of their careers. Robbie Fowler is loving his football again over in Australia ... and Craig Moore is still a fuckwit even though he's not at Rangers anymore.
  4. According to the EE, Pa Broon is going to hunt in Australia and New Zealand for the latest potential Dons players. Quite a few decent players in Aussie. Couple of half-decent players in New Zealand playing for Wellington Phoenix as well. Kiwi keeper Mark Paston is phenomenal when he's on form. He was the man mainly responsible for New Zealand's 1-1 draw with the Italians in last year's World Cup. Strangely enough, Paston used to be third choice keeper at St Johnstone five years ago. Kiwi midfielder Leo Bertos would be a decent enough signing too. He's creative and a bit cocky too. Stacks of SPL-quality players in Australia too. Ex hun and Dunfermline midfielder Ian Fergus-hun is head coach at Perth Glory, so there could be the potential for Brown to pull a player or two from there.
  5. Could be worse. Could be Colin Hendry ... up front!
  6. Oh FFS! Livin' the dream there, Phil
  7. IIRC Turnbull was the man who had the guts to rip apart the Aberdeen squad he inherited from Tommy Pearson, including a number of "club stalwards" who claimed he was making the gravest mistake of his career by ditching so many household Dons names. Incidentally, the cup final in 1970 that saw Turnbull's Aberdeen team lift the trophy had a whopping attendance of 108,434.
  8. There's minor earthquakes happen in Aberdeenshire all the time. The Highland Boundary Fault runs diagonally from Helensburgh near the Firth of Clyde all the way up to just north of Stonehaven. The fault line has tiny, yet quite regular, movements. The movements are far too small for any human to detect, and the fault line itself is too weak for anyone to worry about. However, my auld man used to be one of Grampian's finest polis. I remember him showing me a stats-chart showing crime/police-reports throughout the Grampian area over the space of ten years. Whilst most parts of Grampian were pretty unpredictable in terms of crime numbers, there was a definite concentration of activity along the Grampian section of the Highland Boundary Fault. Whats more is the type of crimes that occurred along this faultline ranged from beatings and stabbings, to much higher than normal reports of people being found naked in the middle of nowhere, cult activities, etc. It is thought that the increased electromagnetic activity that exists along this faultline is causing people who live along the fault to go just a little bit more crazy than those who reside elsewhere.
  9. Blur, Happy Mondays, Stone Roses, James, Primal Scream, The Shamen and The mighty KLF to all of the above
  10. Moon Safari was excellent. I've nae listened to it in years, but it's always worth a dust-off now and then. Sexy Boy was the first song I ever heard from Air and I loved the sound they were producing. Bought the album and instantly loved Kelly Watch The Stars
  11. He'll be able to keep his family in the area, so I wouldn't be surprised if he takes this deal tbh. Good luck Young. Yer nae good enough for Aberdeen, but I respect the fact that you're a hard worker on the park. Is Phil McGuire still playing for Formartine?
  12. I always worry when we're looking for a new manager that so many completely untried, novice managers who have only just gained their coaching badges throw their names into the hat. I was chuffed when we secured Brown. But what's even more important is that we secured Knox. Knox is one of the UK's most experienced Assistants, and he does not take any bullshit. He was assistant during Aberdeen's most successful period of all time. He was assistant during Rangers most successful period of all time. There's no denying that Knox is made of stuff that todays Drew Jarvies, Paul Heggarties and Scott Leitches will never know. We've tried goodness knows how many combinations of players and tactics. I firmly believe that if this management team combination of Brown & Knox does not work, the ONLY thing left to try is a new board of Chairman/Board. This really should be the final throw of the dice for Milne et al I'm ignoring the results from this season since Brown/Knox took over. They've added some decent quality to the squad, but they are still short of fully-fit Fyvie, Pawlett, etc, they are yet to see what Foster has to offer. They've also had to try and test McGhee's dross. This summer will be interesting. Brown MUST clear out all the dross. I'm glad we're getting rid of the likes of Young and Diamond. He already saw fit to completely cancel the loan contract of Velicka six months ahead of schedule. Now he needs to do something with the likes of Paton who, in my view, has had too many chances to prove himself at Aberdeen, but fails time and time again to live up to his pre-match banter.
  13. I think his drop in ability coincides with Russell leaving for Sunderland. Proof of just how good Russell made him look. It's like Darren Young ... Bisconti carried him for two seasons and made him look a hell of a lot better than he really was
  14. Honest question, cos I've not seen many keepers in the past 7-8 years. Have we had any decent keepers come through our youth ranks since Leighton? I'm trying to think of all the ones who've made it into the senior team, and cannot think of any that really stand out: Esson Watt Stillie Hutton (think he only featured on the bench a couple of times) Peat I personally ain't seen enough of Esson in recent years to pass judgment. But surely Aberdeen should be producing better keepers than this. Surely.
  15. I would understand if he was from Chile or Japan and was homesick. But he's a Brummie! A quick search online shows return flights from Aberdeen to Birmingham next week start at £115 all up. If you are a bit homesick, you might wanna reconsider your choice of career as a pro footballer. Cos unless you're super-consistent and your home club simply never want to let you go, chances are you're gonna be moving around the world to different clubs at different stages in your career.
  16. Have they got gnomes styled on the current squad? Sale Now On!! At least half price!! Paul Hartgnome David McGnomee Andrew Consignome Scott Vergnome Gnomy McArdle Gnoamm Folly Fraser Fygnome Michael Patognome and Darren Mackie All have superficial damage. No refunds, no returns, no exchanges. A bit of work over the summer and they'll be like brand new gnomes.
  17. On his day, Langfield is an excellent keeper. Won a couple of Man-of-the-Matches in my opinion since Brown took over

Got half way thru watching "The Figher" on the old laptop at the maternity ward. Really enjoying it so far.
  19. Reckon that'd be a good way of paying back the national-debt. Make the "Harry vs Pippa All-Nighter" a pay-per-view. Boozing up at the royal bar. Couple of lines of cocaine at the royal drug-store. And then Harry and Pippa get it on whilst she wears the crown jewels. Win!
  20. okay then.
  21. Agreed. A 10-man Celtic team vs an 11-man Aberdeen team would've actually been a decent contest. But no Scottish team is gonna win against a man-up Celtic team.
  22. I like what Brown is shifting towards. if he wants to make Langfield, Smith, Milsom, Aluko, Hartley and Maguire the backbone of his squad, then this bodes very well for the future. Lets hope all sign new contracts.
  23. Young's heart is in the right place. He puts in massive amounts of effort in almost every game he plays. But when truth be told, his best is simply far far below what the Aberdeen benchmark should be. If we are to be a success, then an in-form Derek Young should be seen as a poor Aberdeen player - if you catch my drift. Thanks for the effort Derek, but your time is now up.
  24. Am I the only one who wouldn't say no to Kate Middleton? Even fae the early pics of her on the crapazine covers, I thought she was a bit of alright. Would you?
  25. I thought Aluko was brilliant. He consistently had at least two or three players marking him, but time and time again he came out of tightly marked situations with the ball. Maguire was good too. Never stopped harassing upfront, and won a few tidy handy freekicks when there seemed nothing else was on. I felt sorry for him just before Celtic's 2nd - saw nothing wrong with his goal. Couple of others got passmarks but Vernon was non-existent in midfield and the likes of Diamond and Young can just fuck right off right now
