  1. That's a bit cheeky from Maguire, the bit about us nae playing him and Killie using him every week. There's a reason why we put you on-loan, min. Yer a good player, hence why we didnae want to sell you. But we wanted you to get first-team experience so you could come back a bit better. If we didnae like you, we woulda sold you. Wouldn't we???
  2. agreed
  3. I think we should ditch the split and keep it a 12-team league. We should have one auto-relegation spot and one relegation-playoff spot. We should also start up a championship playoff scheme whereby the top FOUR teams play a round-robin knockout mini-tournament at the end of the season ... with the final match of the season being at Hampden, and this match ultimately deciding who wins the league, regardless of how many points split the top team from the 2nd-placed team. Something has to be done to try to break up the duopoly the Old Firm has on this league.
  4. Hindsight and all that, min! When Willie was taken back to the club by Wiggy, I was sure this was the next best thing to ousting Stewart Milne! Having the legend of all Dons legends running the footballing side of the club was, in my view, a complete no-brainer and a recipe for success. How was I or anyone else who shared my views to know he'd contribute the square-root of fuckall to the club?
  5. I remember that walkout, now! Weren't the prawn-sandwich-seats in the Lower-RDS empty for the first twenty minutes of the game or something like that?
  6. That rule has changed, tsr. There now needs to simply be an 8/4 (could actually be 7/5 now) majority rather than the previous 11/1 majority. This came about after the 10/2 majority voted for SPL-TV to happen, but the remaining two (the Old Firm) resulted in the plan being quashed.
  7. Nae sure it was during Paterson's reign, min. I think the Cummings-Consortium was in 2000 or 2001 when Ebbe was in charge. If I remember rightly, a consortium was built through Cummings (millionnaire owner of Edinburgh-based Pilgrim Software), Willie Miller and Dave Cormack (Scottish-Canadian Chief Executive who had done wonders whilst running Toronto FC). The consorium was being built from within the club to oust Milne and Ian Donald from their positions on the Aberdeen board. Milne found out about the consortium, and promptly bumped Cummings off the board, cut Willie's access to the club, and it wasn't long before Cormack went back to Canada with a prefabricated sob-story of "my kids are homesick" or something like that. At a time when following Aberdeen was slowly becoming something close to mildly exciting (these were the years when we had Stavrum, Jess, Dow, Zero and Belabed entertaining us), being a Dons fan was given a little bit more edge and excitement with the prospect of seeing the Cummings Consortium brought into power at the expense of the Milne regime. I'd like to think Cummings is quietly biding his time, plotting another takeover bid. Please try now, Jim. You might have more luck!
  8. We should be lining up McGhee's successor right now, then bin him at the final game of the season. My reason for waiting until after the final game of the season? McGhee and every other Aberdeen player's contracts should be ripped up, and they should be forced to wear their Aberdeen strips, and then marched down the left-hand-lane all the way from Pittodrie, up King Street and the whole length of Union Street. They should be FORCED to hold up traffic behind them so that everyone in the city gets a chance to show just how much McGhee and this sorry excuse for a squad have ripped the heart out of the club. Marching them up through the heart of the city will finally give the fans the opportunity to get REALLY pissed off at them, and force the players and coaching staff to hear the abuse, rather than just run away down the tunnel when the whistle goes. I honestly feel this club has been set back more years by McGhee and his squad than Pele, Ebbe, Miller and Aitken did collectively.
  9. Time to go. He's had a summer and a January transfer window to get players. He's had a whole season at us, with a pre-season too. What's he succeeded in doing? Losing to EVERY SPL club without exception, losing to two First Division sides in the cups, humiliated in Europe to the detriment of the country's co-efficiency ... and offered the squad who has done all this shit a lifeline by saying "they could all stay til next season if they show a bit of determination". I'm sorry, but if he cannot grow the balls to wipe out that abysmal squad that has brought us closer to relegation than any other manager (Ebbe doesn't count as NO team could be relegated that year) then he needs to go. What makes you think this squad is gonna be any better next term, Mark?
  10. He's already lost the same number of games as Alex Miller, but in four fewer attempts! Why is McGhee not hounded out in the same way Miller was?
  11. Only thing I'm pissed at is the fact Anderson never got to lead his team into Europe. And the fact he's not an Aberdeen player any more. A million times the captain that Kerr or Severin ever have been.
  12. Couldnt be much further from how the current Aberdeen team are doing.
  13. If those players cannot raise themselves for two all-or-nothing cup games against Raith, and cannot overcome the might of St Johnstone, Falkirk or Kilmarnock at a critical time in the season, what chance to we honestly think they'll have in the REAL dogfight that will be the final 3 games of the season. Two games from now, we could be equal-bottom of the league. This team don't have the fight in them to escape relegation. Why? Because most of them already know they are on their way in the summer. They will fuck off to another club, whilst Aberdeen gets relegated for the first time ever. I hate to admit it, but this team depresses me more than any of the starting lineups that Alex Miller fielded. At least Alex Miller's sides had a few shots on-goal.
  14. That one highlighted bit has finally turned me against McGhee. These are the same men who've gone one win in thirteen matches! There is probably five players I'd keep, the rest MUST MUST go in the summer. If McGhee is even contemplating giving everyone a lifeline, then he has basically said it's okay for them to go a whole season of playing shite, so long as they don't finish in last place. Goodbye McGhee. You've finally lost this dandy's faith. GTF out of this club.
  15. August 1st, pishup in Dunfermline/Partick/Kircaldy/etc to celebrate our return to the country's 2nd tier league-division since 1905.
  16. It'll be interesting to see how he fairs in midfield. Let's face it, he's not a striker!
  17. Unfortunately most of the current squad are happy to sit pretty picking up the "Aberdeen-wage", whilst knowing full well that Aberdeen really cannot afford to let them go regardless of how poorly they play ... see Kerr/Grassi being offered new deals. With Falkirk picking up three more points yesterday, we are now only two poor weeks away from sitting in last place. St Mirren, Killie, and Falkirk are all fighting well at the moment, and I actually EXPECT to see us sitting on the bottom of the league come the final week of the season. I think we'll escape relegation by the skin of our teeth, but it will only be because those players who got us into that position will suddenly sit up and actually perform to the level we all know they are capable of.
  18. VERY VERY much doubt that Aluko will be here next season either. He's got no interest in being at Aberdeen at the moment. He's doing nothing for us, and we're doing nothing for him. He'll move for a pittance, and come November McGhee will be saying "I wouldn't have been sacked if Aluko hadn't been sold by the board"
  19. Crock of shit. Since leaving us, Calderwood has had nothing but praise for Aberdeen FC. Michael Gannon spouting his thoughts in a news article... excuse me mate, just stick to reporting the facts instead of reporting what you think people might be thinking. Unless you want to be an agony aunt. But then, Joey Harper's already got that gig sewn up.
  20. A. Miller 43 11 13 19 25.58 McGhee 34 8 10 16 23.53 That's a sad statistic
  21. Gary Clail - Human Nature (fuckin aweful song)
  22. Metallica coming to Auckland in November. Might have to be quick on the old dog&bone for tickets for that gig. Nae seen them since the Big Day Out in Milton Keynes in 1997, and they were easily the best band I've ever seen live. SERIOUSLY high octane performance!!
  23. Surely that's got to be the last we see of Grassi. Sure, it was a nasty deflection. But the lad's nae exactly endeared himself to the fans, mask or nae mask. McGhee is looking like a man running out of ideas. At least Ebbe didn't blame injuries or the players or the fans. Ebbe just kept trying different things. Hell, he even took a wage-cut to show how his dedication towards turning the Dons around. McGhee just seems to blame everything but himself. If its not the players as a whole, it's one individual player he points the fingers at. If it's not the weather, it's the state of the pitch. If it's not injuries, it's the fans. Anyone but him!! I hate to tell you Mark, but that squad of players did perfectly well against Hearts and Celtic not too long ago. You cannot blame the departure of Lee Miller for the poor results either, cos Miller wasn't exactly the all-conquering striker that you are making him out to be. You are very lucky in the fact that the board have bought into the "transitional season" shite that you've been spurting this season. But, come November, if we're off the pace for top-four, and are out of any one of the two cups, you'd better start looking for a new job!
  24. Gonna go for 5. Paterson will not be back at Aberdeen. But I reckon we might surprise everyone and get MacLean and O'Brien in the summer. McGhee will grab at least one more former Motherwell player, and grab a couple more from the lower reaches of England.
