End of round two, and the team is starting to look like that all-conquering 1990 team. Despite the bustup with the fans and the move to Ibrox respectively, McKimmie and Robertson emerged as eventual winners of the left and right back positions. By the sounds of things, voters are voting with their memories of footballing ability, rather than sentimental value. Next up is the two central defensive positions. To speed up the process, I'm going to allow you all to choose TWO players from this list. This will be interesting, because we've had some decent quality centrebacks play for us over the past 20 years - and not everyone agrees on who was quality and who was not! With this in mind, I'm choosing players based on their RECOGNISED positions (rather than players who play elsewhere, but have done not too bad when placed as CB on a temporary basis) This poll will run until next Saturday. Remember, these are ONLY players who've played for Aberdeen between 1990 and 2010. As before, I'm not going to mention ALL players from the past two decades ... just the ones worth mentioning.

Saw it coming. The match previews were painting us as favourites. NEVER EVER paint Aberdeen as favourites for a game ... that's one way to guarantee a loss for the Dons. Those players are guilty of believing their own hype time and time again. I quite often dream about the Dons' score the night before a match. Friday night's dream was a 2-0 loss - so I wasnae far off. i reckon this will be the swift kick up the arse that the team needs - the reality check that proves to the players that they cannot expect to win just by turning up. Next week's games should be better results for us

If given the ultimate choice of living in Glasgow or Inverness, I'd move to Inverness in the blink of an eye. I love that city. Been for quite a few nights out there, and every single one of them has been top-notch, and the reception I've received fae the locals that I've bumped into has been phenomenal. Glasgow ... on the other hand.

I mind him playing for South Africa just slightly before the 95 World Cup. He bore an uncanny resemblence to Gavin Hastings, but with about half the talent of Big Gav.

Ooooh, look at the steps on The Y! That's quality ammunition!
-
If that's true, might be worth a listen. New Order (World In Motion aside) and Orbital are two of my all time favourites

I saw another article about Duff over the past day or so where he says he's nae keen on a move to Inverness cos of the difficult commute. But in the same article, he says he's weighing up a potential move to Plastic Whistle. WTF? I'd much rather live in the Sneckie than in Weejville

Time to re-instate the sna-ba army, circa December 2001

It's not like Brown to show any respect towards Aberdeen. I see he's not changed his style now that he's back in management. Let's face it, even Scotland's best keeper couldn't get a regular game for Brown's Scotland team.

Well, if it's anything, Willie Miller and Jim (ex Aberdeen) Leighton were in the sea that day in their speedos. I'm sure they were everyone's favourite players at some point. Is that the sorta thing you were imagining?

In that video, you can see something quite a bit further out to see. Wonder if that's Neil Simpson walking on water again
-
He did play under Roy Aitken and Alex Miller, so I don't think the commitment and poor performances can really be fully blamed on him.

A couple of weeks to settle his contract? I think it might've gone something like this: Tommy: "Boss, I'm thinking of leaving" Willie: "Okay, here's your leaving papers" Tommy: "errr, boss ... that's not my name at the top. And I'm not the cleaner" Willie: "You're not? Who are you then?" Tommy: "I'm Tommy Wright" Willie: "Who?" Tommy: "Tommy Wright. I signed in 2008" Willie: "Oh. Sorry. I've never seen what you look like, and I didn't realise you were still an Aberdeen player. I'm sorry to say I threw all yer paperwork out last year. Erm, it might take me a couple of weeks to fish yer contract out o' the bin tae wind things up" Tommy: "Okay boss. Erm, would it be okay if I spoke to other clubs" Willie: "Fuck aye! Go for yer life, min!!!"

They've got email? Next you'll be telling me that they're allowed to dance on the streets of Raith.

Starks Park is a decent ground. I've nae been there since about 1995, but it was a decent ground back then. The stands are quite tidy and relatively modern, whilst still giving the ground a bit of character (unlike lifeless morgues like Rugby Park)

P&J: McGhee in move for ex-Rangers forward
Reekie_Red replied to Kowalski's topic in Aberdeen Football Club
Callum Melville. He was keen on investing in the Dons. But the thought of his money being spent as Wiggy wanted was enough to persuade him to invest in Dundee, rather than invest in the club he supports. I think one of the major stumbling blocks with attempts to seek investment is nobody wants to invest in Aberdeen FC whilst Stewart Milne is in charge. There's SO SO SSSOOOOOO much money that's been pissed down the drain thanks to his leadership .... see two failed stock exchange excursions in the mid 90s. -
This is equal to us signing a PROVEN striker. Fyvie's a phenomenal talent, and this deal either means we get to keep him for quite some time yet, or someone's gonna part with BIG cash to get him. With Strachan watching this game, that's got to boost Fyvie's stock in the premiership.

But you have to admit, there were certain games where Bernard actually looked like a player worth £1million. The cup semi vs Rangers, he was immense. I remember a game at Tynecastle too which was being hyped up by the media as Colin Cameron's comback game, and how Cameron was gonna punish the Dons for the amount of time he'd been out injured. The press didn't pick up on the fact that it was also Bernard's comeback game. Bernard ran the show at Tynie, and Cameron didn't get so much as a whiff of the ball all game!

I think this is the intention with the long contracts we've got the likes of Paton and Pawlett on. Sign them up for a decent length of period, and sell them whilst they have the "huge potential" tag. -
When Bernard actually played, he was an exceptional talent. The semi-final vs Rangers was prime example, as Bernard completely ran the show, allowing Jess the freedom to showboat and steal the limelight.

Farewell Tommy. I would say thanks for the memories, but all I remember is your two goals, your one red card, and the regular headline when the EE was short on news of "Wright out until Christmas" Glad he's gone. That free's up a wage and a place in the squad for someone else ... hopefully McLean or Dobbie. If we sign either as a result of Tommy leaving, we'd have to get the champaigne oot.

... and would this "certain site" be viewable overseas, manc_don? If so, could you PM me?
-
Cup final starting lineup was: Watt McKimmie - Inglis - Smith - Glass Miller - Bernard - Jess - Grant Dodds - Shearer Oh for that lineup these days ... minus Inglis
-
I'm reserving both players for the left/right midfield position polls, since that is where both were most well known.

Must admit, I only managed to see the second half. But AC Milan were unlucky. There was a period of about 20 minutes early in the second half where they camped themselves in Inter's half and only some spectacular saves from Julio Cesar and a few efforts hitting the woodwork prevented Milan from notching up at least an equaliser. But Inter's counterattacking was unreal. Pandev and Milito just seem to instinctively know where each other is on the park. Some of the thru-passes on show from Inter's strike partnership were a delight to watch.
