  1. I don't think Maguire has the professionalism in him to give 100% effort against us. I'd be glad if he came up against us.
  2. Nae really. I'd be more worried if he'd played 23 games so far this season but had only scored four goals. Thankfully, that statistic became Middlesbrough's liability last night, not ours
  3. Do rules still exist whereby a player cannot play in the Scottish Cup if they've already played a previous round in, for example, the FA Cup? If so, does that count McLean and Patterson out?
  4. And with Diamond and Aluko close to their respective returns, it'll be like having two new signings :-) No?!
  5. Yeah but in football manager, if you don't like how the game is going, you can quit before the end of the game, reload the game and start again.
  6. Please note, three ineffective strikers out. Hopefully we've got one effective striker in! But yes a second striker would be handy. Remember, we've got the power to reel Maguire in at any given point, as he's only gone out on loan.
  7. I'm VERY pleased with the Miller deal. He's the biggest pain in the ass I've ever seen play up front for Aberdeen (and I've seen more than my fair share of calamities upfront for the Dons). The likes of D'Jaffo, Dadi, Mike, Newell, Hamilton etc were just shit. But Miller was a decent footballer ... when he could be arsed. Trouble is, he could only be arsed once every 10 or 15 games. Against Rangers at Pittodrie earlier this season, he was truly immense: pulling the Rangers defenders all out of position, and straying marginally offside to the point that it upset the huns defence without the linesman noticing the offside position. But we saw Lazy Lee faaaaaaaaaar too often. I genuinely hope he does well at Boro, but to be honest I can see him being farmed out to some Div1 side pretty quickly. McDonald will do well down there, but Miller will struggle. To get £500K for him is phenomenal. Even if McGhee only gets a little bit of this money, that'll be a few bob more than I was expecting us to get for a frustrating, ineffective striker who was going to be out of contract in the summer. WGS doing us a wee favour there, I believe. Now, we've got just under 4 hours to wrap things up. The English leagues have stopped trading now, but I reckon we can still snap up McLean and Paterson in the next 4 hours. And the money from Miller goes a long way to help fund these moves.
  8. What a load of crap, Rocket min. Preece arrived here as a mediocre keeper at best. He left here as one of the most dependable keepers in the SPL. The only man responsible for raising his standard of keeping was Leighton. Likewise, Esson was a gash keeper when he first broke onto the scene around 1998-ish. He turned into a pretty decent shot-stopper and penalty-specialist. The man responsible for teaching and finetuning those reactions and instincts was Oor Jim.
  9. I'd take ANY cash offer for Miller, especially if rumours are correct in suggesting that Boro are looking to offer around £500k for him. For someone who frustrates the hell out of the Red Army, doesn't have the most fantastic strikerate this season, and is also out of contract this summer, a £500k bid is something we simply cannot look past. I just hope that any money we get from the sale of Miller goes straight back into McGhee's warchest, and not onto repaying any debts.
  10. Aesthetically pleasing cities are a helpful start. But not the be-all and end-all. I was merely replying to dave_min's comments that, unlike Glasgow, Inverness was just a series of concrete lumps. Although I never stayed in Glasgow, I had a few nights out in the weej, have been there a few times for footy, and even worked there for a month (commuting from Edinburgh). From my exerienced gained from these times, I certainly did not enjoy Glasgow, Glasgow's people or Glasgow's physical look one single bit. However, Inverness was a different kettle of fish, in my opinion. The times I've worked and entertained myself there were on the opposite scale to that of Glasgow.
  11. I'd regard Smith as more of a natural right-back than anything else. Hence why he was in the wing-backs poll and not this one. I was contemplating adding Severin to this poll, but although he was an excellent centreback, his recognised position was in midfield. As for McGuire, I popped him in there for his consistency during our 2001-02 season. He played something like 34 consecutive matches for the Dons that season and was only dropped by Ebbe to give the loon a rest. Whilst not being a fantastic talent, he was consistent with his defensive displays and scored more goals than any of our current crop of strikers
  12. I moved to New Zealand in February 2003. As part of my going-away celebrations, me and some of my mates took a long weekend up in the Sneckie. It's was brilliant! Big lumps of concrete? Hmmm, that's generally my description of Glasgow. Here's a picture of Inverness ... Now here's a picture of Glasgow ... Do we really need a poll on "which city is the big lump of unattractive concrete"?
  13. End of round two, and the team is starting to look like that all-conquering 1990 team. Despite the bustup with the fans and the move to Ibrox respectively, McKimmie and Robertson emerged as eventual winners of the left and right back positions. By the sounds of things, voters are voting with their memories of footballing ability, rather than sentimental value. Next up is the two central defensive positions. To speed up the process, I'm going to allow you all to choose TWO players from this list. This will be interesting, because we've had some decent quality centrebacks play for us over the past 20 years - and not everyone agrees on who was quality and who was not! With this in mind, I'm choosing players based on their RECOGNISED positions (rather than players who play elsewhere, but have done not too bad when placed as CB on a temporary basis) This poll will run until next Saturday. Remember, these are ONLY players who've played for Aberdeen between 1990 and 2010. As before, I'm not going to mention ALL players from the past two decades ... just the ones worth mentioning.
  14. Saw it coming. The match previews were painting us as favourites. NEVER EVER paint Aberdeen as favourites for a game ... that's one way to guarantee a loss for the Dons. Those players are guilty of believing their own hype time and time again. I quite often dream about the Dons' score the night before a match. Friday night's dream was a 2-0 loss - so I wasnae far off. i reckon this will be the swift kick up the arse that the team needs - the reality check that proves to the players that they cannot expect to win just by turning up. Next week's games should be better results for us
  15. If given the ultimate choice of living in Glasgow or Inverness, I'd move to Inverness in the blink of an eye. I love that city. Been for quite a few nights out there, and every single one of them has been top-notch, and the reception I've received fae the locals that I've bumped into has been phenomenal. Glasgow ... on the other hand.
  16. I mind him playing for South Africa just slightly before the 95 World Cup. He bore an uncanny resemblence to Gavin Hastings, but with about half the talent of Big Gav.
  17. Ooooh, look at the steps on The Y! That's quality ammunition!
  18. If that's true, might be worth a listen. New Order (World In Motion aside) and Orbital are two of my all time favourites
  19. I saw another article about Duff over the past day or so where he says he's nae keen on a move to Inverness cos of the difficult commute. But in the same article, he says he's weighing up a potential move to Plastic Whistle. WTF? I'd much rather live in the Sneckie than in Weejville
  20. Time to re-instate the sna-ba army, circa December 2001
  21. It's not like Brown to show any respect towards Aberdeen. I see he's not changed his style now that he's back in management. Let's face it, even Scotland's best keeper couldn't get a regular game for Brown's Scotland team.
  22. Well, if it's anything, Willie Miller and Jim (ex Aberdeen) Leighton were in the sea that day in their speedos. I'm sure they were everyone's favourite players at some point. Is that the sorta thing you were imagining?
  23. In that video, you can see something quite a bit further out to see. Wonder if that's Neil Simpson walking on water again
  24. He did play under Roy Aitken and Alex Miller, so I don't think the commitment and poor performances can really be fully blamed on him.
  25. A couple of weeks to settle his contract? I think it might've gone something like this: Tommy: "Boss, I'm thinking of leaving" Willie: "Okay, here's your leaving papers" Tommy: "errr, boss ... that's not my name at the top. And I'm not the cleaner" Willie: "You're not? Who are you then?" Tommy: "I'm Tommy Wright" Willie: "Who?" Tommy: "Tommy Wright. I signed in 2008" Willie: "Oh. Sorry. I've never seen what you look like, and I didn't realise you were still an Aberdeen player. I'm sorry to say I threw all yer paperwork out last year. Erm, it might take me a couple of weeks to fish yer contract out o' the bin tae wind things up" Tommy: "Okay boss. Erm, would it be okay if I spoke to other clubs" Willie: "Fuck aye! Go for yer life, min!!!"
