Davie Robb wants to help the Dons for free
Reekie_Red replied to BobbyBiscuit's topic in Aberdeen Football Club
Wyness was a decent enough man. He was full of utopian ideas, like getting Huns and Dons fans to sit together - never gonna work unless yer name is Alan "HugAHun" Duncan. But he was a decent enough man. I had a couple of wee chats with him back in 2001-2, and he certainly gained my respect for being a good, light-hearted man who enjoyed watching the Dons and enjoyed his wines. Was it Wyness who stood with the Red Army at Ibrox? Or was that Bennett? -
Maybe an indication that McGhee might sell one or both in the summer in a bid to raise funds for his warchest?

Radical thinking there, Slim. That's thinking that in any other city or country would be heralded as sheer brilliance. But this is Aberdeen. Better get out of town before the guys with the pitch-forks chase you out.

Well, we all knew it was gonna be a pre-contract agreement in January with O'Brien arriving in the summer. Generally, that's what a pre-contract agreement is. But hey, let's not have the facts getting in the P&J, Record and Sun's way of producing a nice wee story. "Haha, the Dons can't afford £20k" ... erm, no. Why pay £20k for a player who can come to us for nowt six months later?!
-
wooah! it's just an opinion. Sorry mate. Sorry for giving an opinion on a DISCUSSION forum! I have an opinion that differs from yours ... therefore I'm a "fucking cretin". You're awesome, mate

So by that manner: do you honestly believe England deserved to beat Scotland in Euro96, even though they scored one more than us? Do you honestly believe Brazil deserved to beat Scotland in France98, even though they scored one more than us (courtesy of Tommy Boyd)? Statistics say we finished 4th place last year. There's no way in hell we were the 4th best team in the league last season!
-
We didn't deserve it! We made no changes to our team whatsoever, so the same players that rallied right at the very end of the season to get us into Europe at the last hurdle were exactly the same players who grabbed one win in ten domestic fixtures following New Year. If the players can't get motivated for a League Cup semi-final against arch-enemies Dundee United, then we deserve fuckall. I would've been happy to give the Euro position up last season to another team. Yes we finished in 4th place, but we did NOT deserve it. In the same way Rangers didn't deserve the majority of their wins in the 2003/04 season (Klos was a one-man army for them that season), based on our overall performances throughout the entire season we did not deserve to get 4th place in 2008/09 - despite the fact that we did!
-
McGhee, you should be showing this goal to your strikers on constant repeat. THIS is how you score a goal!
-
Who said anything about me "having the authority" to say we didn't deserve Europe? Read again, and you'll see I said "most of us will agree we were punching well above our weight". Take a look at the following thread, which was the buildup thread to the final game of last season: http://www.donstalk.co.uk/messageboard/index.php/topic,8660.0.html Certainly nowhere near a clear-cut consensus that we were deserving of the last Euro placing going into the Hibs game. And as for the JC losing interest comments, again cast your mind back to December/January 2008 when rumours were going around about JC's disgruntlement at AFC. Infact, I'll do the work for you: http://www.donstalk.co.uk/messageboard/index.php/topic,1906.60.html Now, couple his eventual re-negotiation in January with the following statistics immediately following JC's decision to sign a new contract ... Scottish Premier Dundee Utd 3-0 Aberdeen 19-01-2008 Scottish Premier Aberdeen 0-1 Hearts 26-01-2008 Scottish FA Cup Aberdeen 1-0 Hamilton 02-02-2008 Scottish League Cup Aberdeen 1-4 Dundee Utd 05-02-2008 Scottish Premier Aberdeen 1-5 Celtic 10-02-2008 Scottish Premier Hibernian 3-1 Aberdeen 17-02-2008 Scottish Premier Kilmarnock 3-1 Aberdeen 24-02-2008 Scottish Premier Aberdeen 1-1 Motherwell 27-02-2008 Scottish Premier Rangers 3-1 Aberdeen 01-03-2008 Scottish FA Cup Aberdeen 1-1 Celtic 09-03-2008 One win in ten domestic games! Hardly inspirational stuff from a man who'd been spouting his disgruntlement about AFC just days before signing a new contract.
-
Maverick, I don't think it's a wild goose chase. It's going to be a pre-contractual agreement that we're looking for O'Brien to sign, so although things should be finalised in January, he won't actually be a Don officially until next summer. See the following link from yesterday's Sporting Life website: http://www.sportinglife.com/football/news/story_get.cgi?STORY_NAME=soccer/09/12/17/SOCCER_Motherwell.html
-
Aye, but most of us will agree we were punching well above our weight by qualifying for Europe. JC lost interest in AFC around January/February 2008. We should've looked for a new management team back then rather than giving his managerial team new contracts. 2006/07 season we deserved our European placing. Last season, we did not.

Darren Mackie can save Dons Season says Drew Jarvie ....
Reekie_Red replied to 19afc03's topic in Aberdeen Football Club
I'd happily have a lazy, constantly offside mercenary like Stavrum playing up front who scores 17 goals in 28 league games, than a lazy, constantly off-form avid Dons fan like Mackie playing up front who is only really remembered for two goals that he scored 2-and-a-half years ago. -
Whilst his final 18 months at the club was shite, the three years preceding this were the best the club has experienced in a decade-and-a-half in terms of consistency and obvious signs of stability and improvement of the product both on the field and the club off the field. Too many Dons fans are quick to forget just how good we were under Jimmy at his peak. Both sides of the Old Firm are, as a direct result of Jimmy's efforts, scared of Pittodrie!
-
Agreed. He's the closest thing to a hero most young Aberdeen fans will have these days. Whilst some of us older fans will remember the likes of Theo, Charlie Nic, Ricco and Brian Grant, and further back to the Gothenburg Greats, there's no doubt that to many Gen-X and Gen-Y fans, Jess is the closest thing they've had to a true AFC legend.

When he's in the mood, he's brilliant. His performance vs Rangers was incredible. He took his goal pretty well. But I didn't count a single ball that came near him that he didn't win. And his general play and positioning was a joy to watch, testing the laws of the game and generally being a real handful for the Rangers defence. But we see this Lee Miller far too rarely. He reminds me in a way of Robbie Winters. When he was on fire, Winters was devastating, one of the best strikers in the country with blistering pace and an unstoppable shot. But we only really saw this Robbie Winters when he was putting himself in the shop window. This is the same for pretty much every striker w've had in the past 15-16 years, bar Stavrum. -
From what I read, Obiefule only signed for HBK after hearing that McGhee showed preference towards Paul Marshall. International-status doesn't necessarily mean "good player". Rememember, we were continually reminded that Laurent D'Jaffo was a Benin International. Ilian Kiriakov was the Bulgarian international who apparently played Gazza off the park once. And I'm sure someone's still going to refer to Mackie as a "former Scotland U21 internationalist"

Bisconti scored 1 goal in about 50 games ... nobody doubted his ability. Stephen Glass didn't score that many in his time either, but he was one of our most loved and valuable wingers of the post-Smith/Scott era.

87 Bertrand Bossu Absolutely shite. However I did actually see him make one save against Rangers, which make him one position better than .... 88 Nicky Walker Hard to believe he was Scotland's third-choice keeper behind Leighton and Goram. Thankfully, neither Leighton nor Goram were injured that much, so Walker never got a game. Can now be seen girning on the front of shortbread tins around the world.

THE OFFICIAL: "LET'S ALL LAUGH AT HEARTS"

Of course, I'd prefer it if ten teams finished higher in the SPL than Rangers and Celtic, and it was a double-relegation season! That would be immense!! -

As much as I really cannae fuckin stand Hearts, I'd much rather have them in the league than the likes of Killie, St Mirren, Livingston, St Johnstone, etc. Killie especially have done their time in the SPL. It's about time they fucked off and saved the travelling Red Army a fortune. For the SPL to be marketable, the league needs Rangers, Celtic, Aberdeen, Hearts, Hibs and Dundee Utd to be in the mix. The likes of St Mirren and Killie add absolutely no value to the league whatsoever with their 32 fans.
