P&J: McGhee set for Paris signing dash
Reekie_Red replied to Stewart's topic in Aberdeen Football Club
Hmmm. Maybe he saves his best for the big teams, like what Kombouare. Our old French friend only showed his best when Rangers came to town. Maybe Bossu is the same. Maybe I'm just lucky not to have seen Bossu's Killie collapse -
P&J: McGhee set for Paris signing dash
Reekie_Red replied to Stewart's topic in Aberdeen Football Club
I didnae see Bossu's Killie performance. But surely there's been worse from the likes of Tzvetanov or Kombouare. Tony Warner really springs to mind with this discussion. Didn't Warner let in something like 17 goals in his five Dons appearances? -
P&J: McGhee set for Paris signing dash

You sure about that? I've seen some pretty woeful performances by some pretty woeful players during the Aitken, Miller, Skovdahl and Paterson eras. -
P&J: McGhee set for Paris signing dash
Reekie_Red replied to Stewart's topic in Aberdeen Football Club
I dunno. When he came on against The Great Unwashed of Govan back in January, he was pretty good. He had one slipup if I remember rightly, but a pretty good showing otherwise. -
Never read too much into friendly results ... unless it's an absolute tanking, in which case the friendly is a waste of time. It would've given McGhee the chance to test out a couple of formations, try out his first-choice team and also a few backup options. Ultimately, he'll have come out of this one knowing who he can rely on and who is shite. So long as we get it alright on the (next Thursday) night, I'll be happy.

EE: Aberdeen FC must get hang of 4-3-3
Reekie_Red replied to mizer's topic in Aberdeen Football Club
4-3-3 will work if we have two effective wingers. Mackie and Maguire can play on the wing, but they ain't really wingers. Unless McGhee is planning on deploying the left and right forwards on the left and right edge of the box, rather than out on the wings. But that leaves us very thin on players on the wings. -
Beg to differ. They had already gained 35 of their total of 60 points when O'Donnell died. If anything, they gained less points per game on average after O'Donnell died than they did before. McGhee's proven at several clubs, not just Motherwell, that his first season in charge of a new club is moreoften than not the best season at that club. Therefore, I'm looking forward to this season with a certain degree of optimism. 2010/11 however ...

Didn't know Kiraly was at 1860. He was the Hertha keeper when we played in Europe in 2002.

Europa League Qualifying Draw - Friday
Reekie_Red replied to BobbyBiscuit's topic in Aberdeen Football Club
I'll say. First home game of the season. Based on the preseason training we've seen in the pictures, the Dons ain't gonna run out of steam at any point throughout the game regardless of who the opposition is. We should win. If we show Fram or Sigma respect, we should get through. If we don't we'll be out of Europe before the SPL kicks off. -
P&J: Aberdeen are closing in on French defender
Reekie_Red replied to Kowalski's topic in Aberdeen Football Club
Being perfectly honest, how many of us had heard of Roberto Bisconti, Marcus Heikkinen or Arild Stavrum when they joined the Dons? I'm confident McGhee will get the right men in the right timescale. I'd rather he took his time and got the right player rather than press the panic button and sign any old Bryan Prunty or Leon Mike. -

Sky & ESPN in Joint Deal for SPL Rights
Reekie_Red replied to BobbyBiscuit's topic in Aberdeen Football Club
The SPL must agree on an 8:4 majority before any TV agreement is reached. But in saying that, the SPL contains wankers like Motherwell, Hamilton, Hearts, Kilmarnock and St Mirren who bend over for the Old Firm's demands whenever requested anyway. If Aberdeen, Utd, Hibs and Falkirk can drum up support from St Johnstone, then that scuppers the ratio. -

P&J: McGhee in move for ex-Rangers forward
Reekie_Red replied to Kowalski's topic in Aberdeen Football Club
Plymouth fans appear eager to get rid of MacLean. It appears a number of them see him as a waste of space, lacking motivation and generally having a stinking attitude. If we get him on-loan, I'm willing to give him a chance as each and every club can be completely different circumstances for a player (see Lee Miller @ Bristol City). But I hope he does buck up his ideas. -
Sky & ESPN in Joint Deal for SPL Rights
Reekie_Red replied to BobbyBiscuit's topic in Aberdeen Football Club
Being honest, they've had just a couple of months to thrash out a deal. Setanta agreed the original deal when they had BBC and Sky competing for the rights. Now, though, I doubt that there'd be many bidders for the SPL rights, so ESPN can bid whatever they like. So long as it's £1 more than what BBC can offer, they'll get it. -
What colour are the stripes? Are they gold? I can't quite make out what colour they are.

A few years ago, I'd just come back from my brother's wedding in Jamaica. I was waiting in Heathrow for my connecting flight up to Edinburgh, and there was a number of other Scotland-bound flights due to leave around this time. The entire huns squad had just arrived back from their pre-season tour of Dubai. I spotted Stefan Klos purchasing a Mills & Boon novel, and Barry Ferguson skipped the queue in sandwich bar, and surprisingly the ENTIRE travelling party of Rangers players and coaching staff were wearing blue Rangers tracksuits ... except Alex McLeish, who was wearing a suit and red tie

Sky & ESPN in Joint Deal for SPL Rights
Reekie_Red replied to BobbyBiscuit's topic in Aberdeen Football Club
Couldnae gie a shite who does the coverage. But it would be nice if ESPN managed to get a few Dons games a year. It'll be better than the elaborate setup I've got just now whereby the game gets beamed to me through some Chinese streaming software that I cannae read (I flick through about 40 worldwide sports channels each time before I find the Dons game), then linking up my computer to my TV by s-video cable and watching the game in horrible block-o-vision because of the poor streaming speeds. The last game I watched in crystal clear LIVE vision was the Bayern game at Pittodrie cos it was somehow on ESPN over here. Somehow! But I would like to put a request into whichever firm wins the rights. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE hire someone else to do your hosting and punditry. Jim White and Champagne Charlie should not be options on anyones lists! -
So they've got no speedcheck data to prove that Miller was travelling at excessive speeds? To me, reading this latest article, the only thing they can do him for was doing 90mph in the contraflow section. That's fine and points on your licence ... not a ban. The only way they can prove anything else against Miller will be if the patrol car was carrying a video camera and was filming at the time. So now it's down to Miller's honesty in the case, and what judge they get in Stoney. There's one particular judge at Stoney Sherriff Court who has a real iron-fist when it comes to speeding offences. He is easy on drug offenders and people who get involved in fights, as those are things that he can instruct the offenders to go to counselling for. But dangerous driving is his bane. Fucked if I can remember his name now...

Dundee Spend Equivalent of our Entire Budget on 1 Player
Reekie_Red replied to Montana's topic in Aberdeen Football Club
I'm still wondering where the cash is coming from. Got to wonder if the Marr Brothers are still involved (even at arm's length) at Dens. That pair of crooks seemed to find money where there was none ... and wouldn't be surprised if some of the money for these signings is coming out of some of the Marr brothers' businesses (if they've still got any business left). -
Sky & ESPN in Joint Deal for SPL Rights
Reekie_Red replied to BobbyBiscuit's topic in Aberdeen Football Club
I'm all for this, but I'm being selfish. I've not been able to view live SPL matches on normal television since Setanta won the rights some five or six years ago, cos Setanta doesn't broadcast to New Zealand. Even in Australia, anyone wanting to air any Setanta channels has to pay a crazy 4-figure monthly sum. But ESPN is not only available here, it's available on FREEVIEW!!! Halle-fuckin-lujah. And if Sky Sports decide they're gonna show the Old Firm matches, then even better. Means I'll never have to switch to Sky Sports ever again. -
Haha. I suppose if any of the four topic-matters covered in that three-sentence news article come to fruition, the Daily Express can say "as revealed exclusively by us". Does Charlie Allan moonlight with the Daily Express now?
