  1. I'm in agreement with SonofRock. I'm thankful for what the Jimmies have brought to Aberdeen: respectability and a sense that we actually could reclaim our title of "third biggest club in the country". But Jimmy did run out of ideas. In my view, him running out of ideas coincided with him signing a new contract at the beginning of February 2008. I think he should've gone back then. He was on a high in terms of his stock, he actually had some other clubs sniffing around in his general direction ... and the Aberdeen fans began to dislike him. There's no doubt that he found his ceiling with Aberdeen by keeping us floating somewhere between third and fifth. But those who've been Aberdeen fans since before 1995 will understand just exactly why that is not good enough for Aberdeen. Those who take 3rd to 5th place as being substantial have obviously not tasted success with Aberdeen. It wasn't that long ago that a 3rd place finish was regarded as an abysmal season for the Dons. Indeed, 2nd place got one of our managers fired! clinching 4th place on the final day of the season is NOT success, especially when the Dons had long since been knocked out of both cup competitions without so much as a "well, we gave a good account of ourselves". Baggy talks of getting back to "our rightful place". Our rightful place is AT LEAST "best of the rest" with regular appearances in cup finals. That is where the Aberdeen I grew up with were, and that's where I've been dying to see them back at again. We don't need to compete with the Old Firm, as there's no point in even trying to compete with the wages they can command. But we SHOULD be beating everyone else. Hell, when was the last time we absolutely thrashed another SPL team? It's been a long long time since we've done so. By thrashing, I refer to the absolute tanking that Dundee Utd gave us during Roy Aitken's last game in charge. I yearn for the days when we can start the season as FAVOURITES to clinch 3rd place and get to at least one of the two cup finals before a ball has even been kicked. Most other SPL clubs admit that Aberdeen are bigger than them. Some ponces like Hearts and Hibs like to pretend they're bigger than us. Well here's some news for you, McGhee turned DOWN the Hearts job even though it was a massive increase in pay. If he becomes Dons manager, he's admitted it's not for the money. Now THAT tells you something about the size of Aberdeen FC.
  2. That's the bit that caught my attention! Dobbin for defensive coach
  3. That's why I like the look of the 2 year contract that's on offer. If he can get us to 3rd and a cup final this season, nae to mention hoping that he might get us to the league-stages of Europe, then I'll be happy with that. If he then goes on his usual run of being shite in his second season, at least we don't have a huge payout to pay to get rid of him. The negativity on here is unbelievable. The guy is CURRENTLY the Motherwell manager, and already there appears to be a MMMG mob emerging. Think of it this way guys ... there's a strong chance we'll know what formation the Dons will be playing for most of this season. That's something you couldn't say going in to the 2008-09 season!
  4. McGhee ain't my first pick, but he was certainly not my last. Him being Dons manager has prompted a rub on the chin and a "hmmmmmmm" from me. When JC was appointed, I screamed "aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaargh" in pain. If he is confirmed as manager, then good luck to him. It's probably the toughest managerial job in Scotland. The Old Firm and Hearts have money to spend. United, Hibs and co don't really have that big ambitions. A top six finish is seen as a monumental success for any team outside of Rangers, Celtic or Aberdeen. But the Aberdeen manager has fuckall money to play with and has to deal with a horrible disease that spreads to every single player that moves to the Granite City that turns them from "promising/proven talent" into "shite that only turns on the style four times a season". Good luck Mark, you're gonna need it!
  5. I'd much rather we take 2, 3 or 4 weeks to get the man we want, rather than run out there and grab the first name that applies for the job. I mean, we're not Dundee Utd, afterall. For all our Alex Millers, Roy Aitkens and Steve Patersons, they've had their own share of Craig Brewsters, Ian McCalls and Tommy McLeans. McLean is just a bitter bitter old fucker who is jealous of the fact that, despite us having a shitter of a season with our worst team in five years, we STILL finished above what is probably the best Dundee Utd team of the past decade. New Firm, my ass. Utd simply clung on to the majestic coat-tails of the mighty Aberdeen of the 80s.
  6. Own up, you thought it was Alf Stewart from Home & Away, didn't you!
  7. Go the whole hog and get Kevin Thomas and George O'Boyle in as coaching staff. Imagine the dressing room with that combination. Would be a real crack!!
  8. Led Zeppelin - Nobody's Fault But Mine
  9. Kiss - God Gave Rock and Roll To You
  10. Lenny Kravitz - Rock and Roll Is Dead
  11. Maybe he was up to give Tommy (can't kick my own arse) Wright how to score goals
  12. The Ullevi Stand The Richard Donald Stand The Alex Ferguson Stand The Red Stand (this one's GOT to be terraced, and for the home fans who want to sing and shout and swear)
  13. Faith No More - Surprise, You're Dead
  14. Take some chill pills and you might have a bit more success in the job hunt, mate. I was just paraphrasing what was written in an article. I don't know anyone at Pittodrie on a personal level. I don't know Ron Atkinson's nephew dog-walker. All I was doing was posting a link to a sotry about one of the "possible" next Aberdeen managers, and passing comment on it. If it pains you to read this sorta stuff, then maybe football discussion forums aren't for you.
  15. Read a disturbing rumour on "ComeOnBoro" website that Noel Whelan wants to be the next Aberdeen manager, and says one of his backroom staff that he'd bring with him would be .... Ron Atkinson! http://www.comeonboro.com/matches/080918288.php No doubting that Ron has got the experience. But I don't know if I could stand his constant drivel (aka Ronglish) being quoted in the Record every other day. It was bad enough having Jimmy working for the Record.
  16. Yeah, he's just been named as assistant manager at Darlington.
  17. So long as it's not anything shite like "New Pittodrie Park" or some shite like that. I do like stadiums that can be named singularly, like Pittodrie, Hampden, Tannadice, Tynecastle, etc (ie I don't like things like Rugby Park, McDairmaiaiaiaiehdh Park, Fir Park, etc). Would simply naming it "Loirston" be too shite? Sounds alright to me.
  18. HELL NO! I hate Williamson. He's WORSE than JC. He's only marginally better than Jim Jeffries, and Jim's level is on a par with the bottom of the barrel.
  19. I'm hearing worrying rumours that Bobby Williamson will be next Aberdeen boss. To me, he's on a par with JC in terms of shiteness, and just slightly above Jim Jeffries in terms of for-fucks-sake-ness. But then I did just read a rumour that Noel Whelan and ... wait for it ... Ron Atkinson have showed an interest in the Dons post. JEEEEEEEEEEEEEEZ, imagine the shite we'd have to put up with from the Daily Ranger with all the quotes that Ronglish comes out with!
  20. Doesn't matter anyway. Both are tied up on fairly decent term contracts. If they want to move, then someone's gonna have to pay a heck of a lot for players of the caliber of Sone and Langfield who, arguably, are now our most skilled players since Smith and Seve look to be goners.
  21. Just shows he's more professional than the likes of McGhee who quite happily lifted his miniskirt at the prospect of managing Hearts.
  22. I was neither in the JIG camp nor the JMG camp. But I'm wise enough to realise that these two camps DID and still do exist. Just like capitalism and communism ... just cos I know they exist and know what each stands for, doesn't mean I subscribe to either of their values.
  23. I just don't think McGhee is the answer to our long-term prayers. Whilst he may very well get our team playing well to begin with, I fear he may well drop off within a couple of years and we end up back at square one in terms of looking for a manager and the JIGgers saying "told you we should've kept the Jimmies"
  24. Agreed. He's not really done much good OR much bad in football management so far. Black would definitely be a sentimental move, as would McGhee. There's an element of Fergie being that too, but he's at least proven that he can build winning teams. And, from what I read, pretty exciting attacking teams too!
