... unless that someone is Jim Jeffries. In which case, I think most Dons fans will join Miller and Shauney in leaving!
-
I'm not convinced by McGhee. He's an okay manager, but we don't need an "okay" manager. We need someone who is going sustain JC's good work of keeping us in the top 4, but rebuild our cup ambitions. I very much doubt McGhee would be able to keep us in the top four. Hell, I think we would struggle to remain in the top six after a couple of seasons under his guidance. Black would be the more obvious choices that we can afford. But I would love us to give Darren Ferguson a good shot. Yeah sure he's brought Posh up two divisions in succession. But surely the chance to manage a club in Europe in a completely new league (whilst still in Britain) would appeal to him. Not to mention the fact that he'd be walking the halls his father helped build (metaphorically speaking).

McGhee to leave Motherwell.........
Reekie_Red replied to glasgow sheep's topic in Aberdeen Football Club
I'm really not favouring McGhee coming to Pittodrie. I think I'm in the minority here, but I've not been impressed with his performance at Motherwell. If we had ONE season finishing in the bottom six, the Red Army would be on his back faster than we can say "JISMGOD". At the moment, the only name I've seen on the list of candidates that I like is Darren Ferguson. But we'll never get him cos we'd have to pay a hefty fee to Posh. -
So long and thanks for all the memories......

The European run was fantastic. But for me the real two high-points must surely be: (1) restoring the credibility factor to Aberdeen Football Club, and (2) Skelping BOTH sides of the Old Firm on a regularity that has not been seen at Pittodrie since Smith/Scott. -
... anyone else got Eric Clapton songs in their heads after that topic header? http://www.thedandies.co.uk/messageboard/chat

Exactly! You can't judge a player by the team's overall performance. If memory serves me correctly, in 1999/00 season when we finished bottom of the league, our regular keeper was Jim Leighton, one of our main central defenders was Russell Anderson, Eoin Jess was our most notable midfielder, and we had Winters and Stavrum up front! Cannae base your decision on a single player by the team's overall results. I'm sure there'll be some crackin players up for grabs from the Celtic youth squad. Then again, for every gem there's probably five Bryan Pruntys.

Donstalk, Aberdeen-Mad and the Ultras join forces!
Reekie_Red replied to Stand Free Ed's topic in Aberdeen Football Club
Macca-Speak was the resident tim on DonsTalk many many years ago. He offended absolutely everyone every day with every single post that he made ... but not a single one of his posts actually broke the rules of the forum so we couldn't ban him. We eventually just bit the bullet and told him to fuck off ... which he eventually did. -
Still, against Rangers he was always immense. I liked auld Comb Worry (as the commentators called him)

I mind the auld auld DonsTalk pre-match pissup about 8 or 9 years ago. BobbyB: "Hi I'm Bobbybiscuit" Cuervo: "Hi I'm Macca-Speak" BobbyB: <awkward silence> "... is that right then?!" <Bobby looks away in disgust, seeking solitude in his glass of vodka Cuervo: "Nah min, as if! I'm Cuervo" BobbyB: <laughs> "You fuckwit!" -

Last game of the season - how will it go?
Reekie_Red replied to mizer's topic in Aberdeen Football Club
Dust out the passports? If we get into Europe, yer gonna pretty much have to take yer passport with you to the Hibs game at Pittodrie, such is the short timeframe between the end of the season and the start of the qualifiers. -
Last game of the season - how will it go?

Reckon we'll win vs HIVs. Reckon Huns will lose to United Shellick vs Pink Huns I couldnae gie a flying fuck about. Inverness to get relegated. Although it's impossible, I'd LOVE to see Killie going down. They've LONG overstayed their welcome in the SPL. Mathematically, Helen Mirren aren't safe yet. But it would require Falkirk to win by 4 clear goals, and Helen to lose before they went down. Hence, I reckon ICT don't have the bottle to stay up this season, especially against a Falkirk side who thrive on scrapping ... not to mention the ICT squad isn't exactly on happy terms with one another. -
Haha! Lafferty was a right panzy, right enough!
-
You don't have to word it that way, tlg1903. You don't have to say you want Rangers to win. You can safely get away with simply saying "I want United to lose"
-
How come it looked good fae where you were? Were you nae in the away end?
-
Stewart McKimmie or Gazza?
-
Loved Scotty Booth's comment as Lafferty got subbed: "He's not exactly had a match to remember, has he?"
-
By the looks of things, they've pretty much mastered that skill, GS
-
Quite pathetic really. Even Walter Smith admits Lafferty was wrong and could face a club fine as a result. Jimmy, back your own fuckin players up. And when I say "your own fuckin players", I ain't referring to the team you support, rather the team who employs you! Are we really surprised? How many Aberdeen keepers get crocked by the huns? Mind you, with Sally McMoist as their assistant coach, those huns are learning from the master of Dons-keeper-crocking.
-
Nah you're not the only one mate. He had a very good game, as did most players in red shirts, tbh. But his miss was what dropped him off my MOTM mentions.
-
There were several contenders. Pawlett had some moments of joy, including an instinctive Jess-like strike that almost had the hun keeper beaten. Paton was very impressive for me. He didn't seem scared of the occasion whatsoever. Took on opposition players like they were training-cones. And he took his goal well. Vidal had a brilliant game in defence. I lost count of the amount of 50-50 challenges that he went into and came out with the ball. Langfield made some brilliant saves and was brave to carry on after yet another horrific challenge by a Rangers player on an Aberdeen keeper (mind you, Ally McCoist is their assistant coach, so I suppose they've just learned it from the master). Seve was back to his best. He made us tick and keep moving. However, Aluko wins it for me. He was incredible powerful and his vision was amazing. Hoofing balls over to the opposite wing where nobody but him could see one of his own players. His power saw him push off a number of challenges whilst remaining on his feet.
-
Still. Pawlett's strike! Awesome, instinctive effort. Almost Jess-like instincts. Mackie would've ballooned that effort. I've been impressed with the 1st half. We gave a good account of ourselves defensively and in midfield, and have had sprinkled the huns goal with a few shots too. Lets hope for the same effort in the 2nd half

EE: Mair staying at Aberdeen FC, but Smith may go
Reekie_Red replied to Kowalski's topic in Aberdeen Football Club
Is it just me who realises we're in a recession? What makes everyone think Aberdeen are immune to financial downturns? I'm sure we're not the only SPL club struggling to keep ahold of the players that fill up our senior squad.
