Things McGhee needs to do to win over the Red Army
Reekie_Red replied to Reekie_Red's topic in Aberdeen Football Club
I agree with FJ. AFCchat was set up originally as direct competition to DonsTalk by a clutch of users who had become banned from DonsTalk for completely ruining the site with their views, spamming and general childish behaviour that succeeded in many users either leaving DT for other sites (such as Aberdeen Mad) or just giving up on AFC forums altogether. Now that it is in the hands of new owners, we've got absolutely no problems with AFCchat. I don't know if they have problems with us, cos quite frankly I don't care if they do. But the Red Army has often had complete opposite factions, not just on forums. There are those who will never go into the RDU cos of the idiots there. There are those from the RDU who will never go near the South Stand because of the idiots there too. But there are people who don't really give two hoots and quite often flick between the two stands on opposing seasons because they enjoy the difference in atmosphere between the two. Same goes for DT and The Hat. -
Things McGhee needs to do to win over the Red Army

Whilst I do realise that El Padre has placed his tongue firmly in his cheek with that remark, there's no doubting that he's referring to a large number of fans who've been calling for McGhee to be the Aberdeen manager since ... since probably Christmas (some well before this too!) Here's a thread as far back as January 2008 referring to McGhee being tipped as the answer to our prayers: http://www.thedandies.co.uk/messageboard/index.php?topic=2040.0 ... and another from February 2008: http://www.thedandies.co.uk/messageboard/index.php?topic=2780.0 -
Things McGhee needs to do to win over the Red Army
Reekie_Red replied to Reekie_Red's topic in Aberdeen Football Club
I'd be surprised if McGhee does stay longer than 3 years. Based on his history, I think he'll have a spectacular 1st season, a mediocre second and then a top-five finish in his third but with a cup win. This cup win will bring an end to Mowbray's Celtic career and McGhee will sign for the Tims. If he stays longer than three years, it won't be because he's done a fantastic job at Aberdeen, it'll be because he's not been the messiah that we all think he'll be. -
Severin offers to stay for more cash, piss right off
Reekie_Red replied to redordead's topic in Aberdeen Football Club
Being honest, I say good riddance to Seve. He's far too inconsistent for us to afford. When he's on his game, he probably the best midfielder we've had since ... probably since Craig Hignett. But that day is only seen once every 3 or 4 months. Seve, I'm sorry we couldn't see the best of you more often. As such, farewell. -
Interesting article in the Scotsman by Michael Portillo ... err I mean Alan Pattullo. Basically saying that, regardless of the comments about Celtic in the Pittodrie Press Conference, McGhee should still be made more welcome by the Red Army so long as he does a few things. Which do you reckon is the most important (up to two options)?

He's only been our ex-manager for sixteen days!

Anderson left several years ago, move on. Fergie left over 20 years ago, move on. Why aren't we allowed to discuss past events, players and staff from Aberdeen's history, Dave? Isn't this what the "Aberdeen forum" on this site is about? Discussing everything related to Aberdeen?

Irvine: "God, when will I be allowed back at Aberdeen?" Willie: "aye, piss aff tae America and do some more cub badges, Brian" ... oh the life of Brian. After reading the responses after my post, I think I'm kinda in agreement that he's probably too nice to help actively coach the first team. Perhaps he could work with Simmie with scouting and developing the youth! He'd be a brilliant mentor for young aspiring kids.

Indeed, BB. It wasn't that long ago that the red army used to sing choruses of "Oh Jimmy Jimmy". A sign of how frustrated the red army became with him when those choruses gradually died out.

"McGhee to be named Dons manager" - Sunday Herald
Reekie_Red replied to Sonoftherock's topic in Aberdeen Football Club
Haha, how true is that ... and then some?!! Remember when we actually paraded Jim McInally with his Aberdeen top and red scarf at Pittodrie, only for Peter Heatherston's medical to fail at Raith Rovers and the swap-deal was cancelled?! -
Jesus. What a bunch of utter fuckwits. They make FollowFollow look just semi-retarded rather than completely retarded. They go on about how McGhee is only in it to build his stock in time for moving up to Celtic. Yeah, like Casa Blanca is a Hearts fan!!!! Wake up you fake hun wankers, the ONLY two managers who are currently managing sides they genuinely support are Walter Smith and, now, John Hughes. McGhee is as much an Aberdeen fan as a Celtic fan. If I were offered a job from two companies, both of whom I liked equally, I'd take the one who offered me the most money. I don't hold that against McGhee, afterall we would all do it (not the Celtic job ... nor the Aberdeen job, for that matter, hehe). But he's admitted that he is relishing the chance to come back to Aberdeen, so I'm happy with that. If he has an awesome year and Celtic want him, then they can buy him off us. If he has an okay year but Celtic are happy to keep whoever they keep, I'm sure McGhee will be happy to stay at Aberdeen.

I'm sick to death of the newspapers saying we disliked Calderwood because of the Rangers link. WTF? I don't know a single Dons fan who disliked JC because of his blue-nosed tendencies. The majority of the red army who disliked him did so because of his freakish tactics and his baffling team selections. So it pissed me off to read Derek Young babbling on to the press about how McGhee will be accepted by the fans more than JC because Jimmy had links with Rangers. GTF Deek. If we hated Dons players and managers because of their Old Firm links, we would've hated players like Barry Nicholson and managers like Alex Ferguson. Get a grip, min. JC was disliked because of his own wrong-doings, not his football allegiance!

"McGhee to be named Dons manager" - Sunday Herald
Reekie_Red replied to Sonoftherock's topic in Aberdeen Football Club
I'm in agreement with SonofRock. I'm thankful for what the Jimmies have brought to Aberdeen: respectability and a sense that we actually could reclaim our title of "third biggest club in the country". But Jimmy did run out of ideas. In my view, him running out of ideas coincided with him signing a new contract at the beginning of February 2008. I think he should've gone back then. He was on a high in terms of his stock, he actually had some other clubs sniffing around in his general direction ... and the Aberdeen fans began to dislike him. There's no doubt that he found his ceiling with Aberdeen by keeping us floating somewhere between third and fifth. But those who've been Aberdeen fans since before 1995 will understand just exactly why that is not good enough for Aberdeen. Those who take 3rd to 5th place as being substantial have obviously not tasted success with Aberdeen. It wasn't that long ago that a 3rd place finish was regarded as an abysmal season for the Dons. Indeed, 2nd place got one of our managers fired! clinching 4th place on the final day of the season is NOT success, especially when the Dons had long since been knocked out of both cup competitions without so much as a "well, we gave a good account of ourselves". Baggy talks of getting back to "our rightful place". Our rightful place is AT LEAST "best of the rest" with regular appearances in cup finals. That is where the Aberdeen I grew up with were, and that's where I've been dying to see them back at again. We don't need to compete with the Old Firm, as there's no point in even trying to compete with the wages they can command. But we SHOULD be beating everyone else. Hell, when was the last time we absolutely thrashed another SPL team? It's been a long long time since we've done so. By thrashing, I refer to the absolute tanking that Dundee Utd gave us during Roy Aitken's last game in charge. I yearn for the days when we can start the season as FAVOURITES to clinch 3rd place and get to at least one of the two cup finals before a ball has even been kicked. Most other SPL clubs admit that Aberdeen are bigger than them. Some ponces like Hearts and Hibs like to pretend they're bigger than us. Well here's some news for you, McGhee turned DOWN the Hearts job even though it was a massive increase in pay. If he becomes Dons manager, he's admitted it's not for the money. Now THAT tells you something about the size of Aberdeen FC. -

Celtic got Mowbry last night so do we get Mcgee now.
Reekie_Red replied to a topic in Aberdeen Football Club
That's why I like the look of the 2 year contract that's on offer. If he can get us to 3rd and a cup final this season, nae to mention hoping that he might get us to the league-stages of Europe, then I'll be happy with that. If he then goes on his usual run of being shite in his second season, at least we don't have a huge payout to pay to get rid of him. The negativity on here is unbelievable. The guy is CURRENTLY the Motherwell manager, and already there appears to be a MMMG mob emerging. Think of it this way guys ... there's a strong chance we'll know what formation the Dons will be playing for most of this season. That's something you couldn't say going in to the 2008-09 season! -
"McGhee to be named Dons manager" - Sunday Herald
Reekie_Red replied to Sonoftherock's topic in Aberdeen Football Club
McGhee ain't my first pick, but he was certainly not my last. Him being Dons manager has prompted a rub on the chin and a "hmmmmmmm" from me. When JC was appointed, I screamed "aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaargh" in pain. If he is confirmed as manager, then good luck to him. It's probably the toughest managerial job in Scotland. The Old Firm and Hearts have money to spend. United, Hibs and co don't really have that big ambitions. A top six finish is seen as a monumental success for any team outside of Rangers, Celtic or Aberdeen. But the Aberdeen manager has fuckall money to play with and has to deal with a horrible disease that spreads to every single player that moves to the Granite City that turns them from "promising/proven talent" into "shite that only turns on the style four times a season". Good luck Mark, you're gonna need it! -
Jim McLean in bitter ramblings shocker
Reekie_Red replied to BobbyBiscuit's topic in Aberdeen Football Club
I'd much rather we take 2, 3 or 4 weeks to get the man we want, rather than run out there and grab the first name that applies for the job. I mean, we're not Dundee Utd, afterall. For all our Alex Millers, Roy Aitkens and Steve Patersons, they've had their own share of Craig Brewsters, Ian McCalls and Tommy McLeans. McLean is just a bitter bitter old fucker who is jealous of the fact that, despite us having a shitter of a season with our worst team in five years, we STILL finished above what is probably the best Dundee Utd team of the past decade. New Firm, my ass. Utd simply clung on to the majestic coat-tails of the mighty Aberdeen of the 80s. -

Own up, you thought it was Alf Stewart from Home & Away, didn't you! -
Go the whole hog and get Kevin Thomas and George O'Boyle in as coaching staff. Imagine the dressing room with that combination. Would be a real crack!!
