I suppose Id better introduce masel ... just incase naebiddy kens who I am. I'm Reekie. I'm one of the gaffers here. Been doin this forum runnin malarky since the days of The Granite Sheep (that's eight years ago now!). I was born in Aberdeen, had my first few years in Hopeman. Then in Elgin. Then Bucksburn. Then my family moved to Stoney when I was 5. Lived there til I was old enough to escape, and buggered aff to HIVLand (Edinburgh) for eight years. Then moved across tae New Zealand where I am now with my wife and sprog. Favourite red of all time? Probably Neil Simpson. Favourite red I can remember wi my own eyes? Probably Eion Jess. Favourite current red? Ooh, spoilt for choice. Seriously, I cannae pick a standout from the lot of them!!

I'll see fit I can do, min. Cannae promise anything. -
Big Dunc spent most of his time trying to wake "Pele" Paterson from his drunken slumber. I think it might be a good idea to offload Lovell. Perhaps as an exchange. I'm sure Superkev would look after him in Cardiff. But somethings got to be done to inject some life into our strikeforce. There's clearly fuckall inspiration coming from the midfield. So we need strikers who are gonna create something. We need strikers who are gonna take pot-shots from outside AND inside the box. Basically we need a fit-again Jamie Smith.
-
Apparently Dan Smith's hidden talent is he can play football. But nobody has ever been able to verify this rumour.

ra sellick vs the famous aiberdeen

Why? Why doesn't JC stick with the guys who are doing the business for him? Why is it so difficult to put Clark on the bench? Why is it so difficult to leave Seve out for a match? They proved against United that the back-up boys are ready and willing to step up to the plate when needed. Now the guys who they replaced should be FORCED to work their way into contention. JC, you need to start reading these forums!!! -
True true. Oshor Williams always swore that David Zdrillic was easily the best striker of the ball he'd seen in his career. I've got too many fingers on one hand to count the number of opportunities he stuck away.
-
But we have Lovell and Miller onboard. Two PROVEN strikers with natural ability!!! What's gone on with them since they arrived here? They've both gone downhill!!! As for the goalkeeping thing, I beg to differ. Look how Esson and Preece developed under Leighton. When Preece arrived, we were cursing the wasted funds. When he left, we were cursing the Dons management for letting him go! I ain't making any excuses for Souter, cos there's no point in trying to develop goalkeeping skills in someone who just ain't a goalkeeper. But there's no doubt that Langfield is benefitting from Big Jim's training. If we had a competent striking coach, I'm sure our strikers would benefit too! I refer to Celtic in the time that Lubo Moravcik was playing for them. He spent a bit of time every day helping train the young Celtic players how to take free-kicks. Look at how Shaun Maloney developed as a direct result of Lubo's training! Grab a look on youTube for videos of Duncan Shearer goals. Every time he strikes the ball, it goes towards the goal. Whether he scores or not is purely down to the skill-level of the opposition goalkeeper. Having someone on board like him would help develop our strikers to realise how/where to hit a ball to get maximum gain out of your opportunity. Shearer always struck him opportunities like they were the only one he'd get during the game. Our current crop of strikers miss with the understanding that another chance will come along soon. It doesn't alway work out that way, though ... especially with our midfield!!!

Firstly, I don't know about the Gow rumour. But the Thompson rumour isn't coming from the EE. It's coming from Cardiff City fans. The EE are running a couple of days behind in this rumour, so I reckon they've thrown the Gow rumour in there to sound like they're still on the ball with getting the rumours out first. As for Lovell, I too think he'll come back to haunt us. I'd love to see a Lovell/Miller partnership tried for a month-long period, just to see if they click. They are two very talented players ... especially Lovell. When partnered with a striker of the quality of Fabian Caballero, he was awesome and there were very few chances that came his way that he DIDN'T tuck away. His problem is he's currently being given about 9 minutes per game to make a difference. Even then, he's normally teaming up with Darren Mackie, a striker who prefers to work alone or be on the receiving end of quality service. Let's face it, Mackie ain't the sort of player who's gonna be setting up chances for Lovell. If we're gonna let Lovell go, which we will cos he's clearly nae doing anything for us, then we MUST NOT let him go to another Scottish club. I think he'd take a move back to England firmly with both hands. Time to tout him to the championship sides? Surely Cardiff might be keen on someone like Lovell who would thrive in the slower English game??!!
-
Haha! Quality comment, min! But I hear what vanderark is saying. We keep nabbing players who have the ability and the reputation. But when they get here, they turn to shite. Lovell, Miller, Winters ... infact I'm tryin to remember the last decent strike partnership we had. Do I really need to think back to the days of Dodds and Windass? That was like 10 years ago!!! Something seriously wrong with our ability to develop strikers ... even strikers who already have the skills there! Employ a dedicated striking coach, maybe? What's Duncan Shearer up to these days?

Just read on the Cardiff City rivals site that JC's lining up a move for ex-Hun Steve Thompson in January. He's a fans favourite at Cardiff, but injury problems have kept his progress to a minimum. I would doubt this move. What is it with us and players that have a history of injuries? Mind you ... ALL Huns and ex-huns have injury problems as long as their arms. Cardiff have transfer-listed Thompson, so I reckon it could be the perfect opportunity to offload someone like Miller or Lovell. Can't be arsed with Miller. Lovell I've got a lot of time for, but he's just not producing the goods for us this season! Would Thompson be any better?
-
Well, not really Sneckie. You know what he was like for windups. A bit like Tommy Cooper keelin over on-stage. Nobody knew whether to laugh or gasp!

Madrid?? Pah. We beat their big brothers. None of this namby pamby "Atletico" shite! 1-0 ... to the Ah Bah Deen!

Is that our scary result out of the way?
Reekie_Red replied to Reekie_Red's topic in Aberdeen Football Club
Haha. Forgot about that!! Hae a look at my Bebo, min. Ye'll see a photo I stole fae Ginge from Denmark. It's that long-lost photo of the lot of us standin behind Robbie Winters after the Farum game, giein the fingers, and holding our fists and beers in the air! A cracker!!! Your goal against Koge was the highlight of that match, I tell ya. -
haha. had a laugh when trying to cram all that last bit in

More Madrid tickets??!! or is it just lies?
Reekie_Red replied to capitalsharpie's topic in Aberdeen Football Club
It's more than likely down to the idea that Atletico may be some way short of filling the home end, and in an attempt at reaping the rewards, Atletico are speaking to the Dons with a view to offering more tickets in the away end. It's not a difficult concept to put into action, as United consistently give us more tickets at Tannalice than they originally decided. -
Absolute arsehole with some really really annoying posts ... rather MOSTLY annoying posts that irritated the shit outa me. Still, it's only a game and these are only discussion forums for said game. Sad to hear of his passing. I won't miss his posts, but I wouldn't wish death upon anyone. RIP Big Gay Hiya. May the chat forums of heaven be forever cursing your writing style and opinions. I'm sure even The Almighty's patience will be tested by you, hehe.

Every season we have a nightmare result. Whether it's getting dumped out of a cup by Queen Of The South, or losing 6-0 in the league to the guys at the bottom. Every year we seem to have this knack of having ONE stupid result that just shouldn't have been. As such, was today's defeat at Tynecastle our freak result of this year? I hope so. To beat high-flying United so comprehensibly, and then to hold the mighty Loko Moscow to a draw (when they were lucky to get a draw out of us!!) ... and then to throw all the hard work away with a joke of a result against the shitey mini-huns! Surely this has to be our "annual blip".

To what tune, mizer?
-
Aye, but at least we're nae last in the group now!
-
Hehe. Welcome to DonsTalk, vanderark. Panic ain't in our vocabulary ... unless The Hat goes down, and then we get inundated with the conspiracy-crew.

Was Aluko any good? From all the reports I've read and the youtube video I saw of the game highlights, he looked comfortable on the ball, and pretty bloody quick too! (by quick, I don't mean "Darren Mackie quick", cos it looked as though Aluko could actually control the ball at pace) Anyone at the game give their opinions of the loon?
