  1. Nah. Real will mop that cash up by themselves. Their appearance fees are even bigger than Barca's, as far as I know. Still, would help remind people in Aberdeen that there is actually a football club in the city that they can go and see.
  2. At last. It's time to unleash "The Jeff" upon Scottish football. Be interesting to see how JDW fairs against a half-decent quality opposition. He did well against the Highland League chappies.
  3. He moved here from Wolverhampton. My question ... why the hell did he go and get a place in the central belt? If this is true, sounds to me as if he just wanted the move back to Scotland and grabbed the first club that could say yes to his wages. Now that he's here, he's engineering a move to a central belt club. If he was serious about moving to the Dons, he'd buy a house in Banchory. Not the central belt!! Aaaaaargh, it's Craig Hignett all over again!!!
  4. We snoozed when Schmeichael was on offer. "Oh, he's only living inside his father's huge shoes". Now we're stuck with Clanger and Soapy for the rest of the season ... and the huns will get one of them for free at the end, cos we said "no you cannae buy our shite keeper for a mint!" this summer.
  5. I might be alone here, but I thought we were actually okay when we had Ebbe as manager. Remember, he was working with absolute shite in his first season. Then he gradually got better and better, and in his penultimate season he took us to within one win of 3rd place, and noteably he took us back into Europe on merit. The 2001-02 squad was pretty fuckin immense, and we did have some very memorable matches with that squad. We were getting wins when we really shouldn't have, and the only laughable part of us was the fact that we kept getting absolutely horsed when we went to face any team in Glasgow.
  6. My thoughts exactly. They're not in the SPL for a very very good reason ... they're not good enough!! IF we play to our strengths, we should shove four or five past them without reply. But that's Aberdeen's downfall - against lesser teams, we just dinnae bother showing up
  7. Is it possible that the quality of players in the SPL has deteriorated so much that players like Young look okay now. Back in the early 2000s, money was being thrown around the SPL like crazy, and big name players that just shouldn't have been in the SPL were playing in our top flight. Now, the league is filled up with Scots and guys who cannae get games for English First Division sides. Young's not improved. He's just not on his own in looking so bland anymore.
  8. WTF??? Stupid goal celebrations that mean fuckall. Reminds me of that stupid sheep thing that the Dons did after the 2-0 Xmas win over Celtic a few years ago. And who can forget Duncan Shearer's "rifle shooting" celebration when he scored a goal??!!! If yer gonna have a celebratory dance, make it either entertaining ... or something that the fans can understand. Still, good to see us getting a win ... and through Miller, a striker who we've all been berating over the past few weeks for doing feckall.
  9. Striker who can play on the left wing? I expect to see him being utilised as a right-back before too long, knowing JC.
  10. And that's us in a nutshell. If we think we can beat them, chances are we won't. If we go in there with the determination we had against Rangers at the end of last season, I'm quietly confident
  11. Get them all signed up on five year contracts NOW so that we can get a decent coin for them if Caldo leaves and raids us!
  12. That's an uncanny resemblence!!!! BABY!!! RUTH!!!!!!
  13. Please tell me it's the first one
  14. If anyone's gonna get him fit, it'll be the Pittodrie coaches. They got Derek Young fit after a year of obscurity in the lower divisions. Still ... "blowin oot o his erse" isn't very encouraging from a player who's trying to get a new club. Surely you do your absolute best when you're looking for a new employer.
  15. 2001? Our captain? Wasn't our captain Derek Whyte back then?
  16. Kurrant's lanky, isn't he?
  17. I'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt. Take Jess, for example. Just about every club he's been at he's been shite. But he was awesome for Aberdeen ... even when we were shite! Sometimes a player just needs to find the right squad, club and atmosphere to settle into before he clicks into gear. Gie the guy a chance at least to show what he's capable of. However, he's already gonna be grinning from ear to ear. He's nae even been on trial with us yet, and already there's dozens of kids wi "J Smith" on the back of their Dons tops.
  18. Mackie's never been a natural goalscorer. A natural goalscorer at least hits the target every time (and it's up to the opposition keeper from there on in). Mackie hits the target with probably one out of every four shots. Nae good enough for a striker. I'd accept this from a defender or perhaps even a midfielder. But NOT a striker whose only job is to hit the target. Mackie's problem is he raises his game once every two or three years, and the manager at that point regains their faith in him. Then he slumps back into obscurity for a while. My strongest memory of Mackie was a game against Livi years ago. Thornley and Winters completely ripped a hole in the Livi defence and provided Mackie with the space to shoot. Thornley could've actually taken the shot himself, but Livi's keeper (I believe it might've been either Nick Culkin or Javier Broto) was in Thornley's way so Benny The Ball opted to pass the ball to the unmarked Mackie who was sitting five yards out from goal with no keeper between him and the net. Mackie SOMEHOW managed to hit the side netting instead. ANYONE who calls themselves a striker should've nailed that strike. Mackie's been given far far far too many opportunities. Thing is, do we keep him and let him have his purple patch every three seasons ... or do we move him on and live in fear of him coming back to haunt us BIG TIME??!!!
  19. If Chris Clark is our best player ... we got some severe problems on our hands. Anyone see his game against the Huns a couple of season back? I'm talking about the 3-2 win over the huns at Pittodrie. We're on the attack, Clark in possession. The entire team is flooding forward and finding good spaces. Who does he pass to? Nobody! He gently taps the ball out of play to give Rangers the throw!! WTF???!! Sorry, but I just dinnae find Clark that inspiring, tbh. He's a good player. But there's no way in HELL he is our best. On his day, that accolade's got to go to Seve, surely! Closely followed by Derek Young.
  20. Be interesting to see the Dons head off to somewhere like Australia. Decent level of opposition ... probably on a par with how the Dons are fairing at the moment. Don't think there'd be any walkovers for us, and likewise I don't think anyone is good enough to give us a royal horsing. The country actually has driving rules, unlike Egypt, and there's plenty of places for Jimmy to top up his tan. Might give the players some ideas on how to stay fit too, cos let's face it there ain't many country's around the world that have as high a "fit and healthy" population as Oz. Plus it's just a hop and a skip from where I am ... good excuse to go on holiday!
  21. 42!!!!!! Cannae quite believe he's scored that many. One in every three games, roughly. If only he got a bit wiser in his game, he'd easily make that tally once in every two games! Then we'd not be having this discussion about who to play upfront. Instead, it'd be "who do we partner alongside Mackie?" Seriously, I'd argue that list from Wikipedia. Wallace scored a shitload of goals for the Huns. He's got to be in that list somewhere. According to Soccerbase, he scored 41 in the league for them.
