yup. Bigger picture though, I can't see any way forward for AFC at all. No matter who we have in charge there looks like no way the fans are going to be convinced to come back now. Too many promises that haven't been backed up with action. This season started off with everybody ready to rally behind the team, and I honestly thought we'd got off the doomed path we were heading down. The opportunity was there for the board to take advantage of, but they had to give something for the fans to hold onto. Personally, the seeming refusal to fund a new defender in January at such a critical juncture was the last straw. I will never believe these people are either competent or willing to do anything other than oversee a continual managed decline. Not that I wasn't 99% certain of that already. In terms of the playing side of things, this was similarly not the season to be conservative. We started off playing reasonably attacking football and things looked like they were imminently going to spark. But the home game against celtic was the turning point. After Yule's daft 'we're going to win the league' claim in the paper on friday, Broon set the team out to play for a 0-0 and failed. After that we've been unlucky with injuries, but generally our tactics have been all over the shop and generally unambitious. Our attendances are a fair reflection of the performance by those in control of shaping Aberdeen Football Club. We simply aren't a club that's worth supporting anymore.

Jute, are you saying Brown's signings over all have been poor? If you think we're a worse team after his transfer activity then maybe that would justify the board not backing him at this crucial point - even with wages for players leaving, if not with fees received for any players to add to the wage packet. After all, if we are to finish in the European places with the personnel we currently have it'll be a miracle. Which makes this paradoxical. If they think he's done badly then he's not good enough to back him, yet they seemingly expect him to get us into Europe. If not, they're essentially giving up on Europe. I think his signings have improved us and he needed backing this month. If that's wrong then we're basically drifting towards the end of this season totally rudderless.

while in the middle of a european push but blatantly in need of one or two outfield reinforcements, the backing our board are giving one of the most well-respected managers in scotland is nothing short of inspirational. there must be some really top managers out there just chomping at the bit to take over when brown goes.

if i could be arsed doing the 2 mins worth of research right now, i'd check how many other spl clubs have brought in zero players this month, and how many have let 2 go. it certainly looks as though, barring a last minute surprise capture or two, we have weakened while everyone else strengthened.

I have no problem with identifying a long-term recruit for the summer, and concentrating on getting the defender we need so as to qualify for europe and make recruiting easier.

Surely the young lad is a good enough keeper for number 2 til summer. if not why's he on the books? wages for a defender please.
