Well the staggeringly obvious problem with that is the SFL cannot make a decision until after the SPL, because the SPL voting not to admit newco would be the only thing that created a vacancy in the professional game for SFL to decide on. They can't threaten unimaginable disaster depending on the result of a real vote, then demand a decision be made on the basis of hypotheticals. In other news, the motherwell fans voted overwhelmingly to reject newco.

I'm at work so will be keeping a hawkeye on this thread when murray's challenge resumes later.

Can anyone else remember when Airdrie went bust and Airdrie Utd bought Clydebank's 2nd div slot, Jim Traynor for a good while refused to acknowledge Airdrie Utd as 'his team'. I'm sure he made clear they weren't the same team and that Airdrie were dead. Whether or not he ever did support Airdrie is one thing, but I'd love to know if anyone else can verify my recollection. Would make it all the more obvious - if it weren't already - that his opinion, and lack of basic truthfulness - that sevco is not rangers - has nothing to do with any honest thought process, and everything to do with his agenda.

I genuinely can't believe this never occurred to me before. all the scare stories and tales of financial doom are not about the clubs or Scottish football. They're about the sports media industry in Scotland itself. Traynor's call-in show will have less people calling in without 90% of the air time devoted to neanderthals quarreling over the latest invented soap opera storyline. He'll probably not even keep his job at the record. Likewise, the already piss poor sales figues of newspapers will drop off dramatically. I mean why would anyone actually buy the Record if not for the daily dose of hun bullshit and paddy-bashing? No wonder there isn't a single editor within Scotland actually allowing/encouraging ANYONE to write the most basic facts about the story, rather than undisguised pro-rangers propaganda. They need the old firm far more than football does.

can't fault anything you've said there.

That was a total farce. So unfair on Baghdatis to serve at 1-4 and 10.50pm with all that ridiculous 11pm finish nonsense. The pressure on him not to hold serve was unfair and nothing to do with the rulea of the game. The confusion caused by the deadline made the whole thing look amateur, and was so unnecessary to stick their necks out like that. Highlights the fact that transport infrastructure in UK is a joke compared to other places. At Oz they've played to 4.30am before ffs.

This. Especially because if they do well it'll be rubbed in our faces and used as a political message. Whereas if they lose it'll just be hilarious.

Major Restructuring in the Pipeline for SPL
maverick sheep replied to BobbyBiscuit's topic in Aberdeen Football Club
Same, but I don't see how the chat about having only one governing body for Scottish football could possibly not include them though. -
Major Restructuring in the Pipeline for SPL
maverick sheep replied to BobbyBiscuit's topic in Aberdeen Football Club
As much as I fully agree with the sack cockwomble calls. This is not the work of one man. Surely he hasn't the authority make any suggestions/threats without the support of the SPL board, who are; Topping, Doncaster, Riley (Celtic), Thompson (DundeeUtd), Weir (Motherwell) and Brown (StJ). Then there's the fact Longmuir's name is signed on the SFL document. The entire governance of this country's football is utterly corrupt and not one single person involved should keep their job. To be frank, I can't understand why no one is in jail yet. -
FINALLY the media standards appear to be on the right track

indeed! I only caught the last half of the 5th set but Nadal had no presence at all. His fitness has looked suspect for the last year or so, so maybe he can't do the Garros/Wimbledon quick turnaround any more like he could previously. And if it comes down to picking one, he's always going to choose Garros to spunk his beans. Ramps up the pressure on Murray now without question!

Well I'm not sure how my seeing it as both a matter of principle and common sense to decide not to give money to a thoroughly corrupt institution is quite the same as fighting an armed civil war to overthrow a fascist dictatorship, but like you say, there are more important things than football. One of them is, as I've said, and you 'understand but disagree with', that where organisations are clearly corrupt and stealing from a person, that person has cause to stop contributing to the maintenance of the same corrupt system. What I had hoped you'd explain, rather than just reiterate, was how the national team, and those who profit from it, is qualitatively different from the league to such a degree as that the implication is I am being unpatriotic for questioning the logic. I remember going to Scotland games as a kid. I loved them (went as an adult too but didn't love them quite so much). I remember going to Aberdeen games as a kid and an adult. I loved them. None of that matters when the entire structure is rigged, our money is lining the pockets of fraudsters and gangsters, and any time we pay to attend a game knowing what we know now we are explicitly accepting the 'price' that our game is being sold for. We can agree to disagree, as obviously we'll have to, but I can't pretend I don't hope that a new generation of fans won't be introduced to the game right now - not as if that means carrying on as if any part of it is business as usual. The baw's burst. And there's little more important than conviction.
-
why? the money goes to different pockets does it? It now appears that AFC are the only ones who may not be unashamedly fucking us, but boycotting league football somehow makes more sense than boycotting the national team? This current situation affects the entire Scottish game and is the work of the blazers at the SFA. giving them money, especially the bigger percentage of ticket price that national games and national season tickets gives them, is tantamount to offering them license to carry on with business as usual. We are being cheated, lied to, and - in the specific instance of rangers - stolen from. and the governing body are responsible for that!
-
great idea to give the sfa money? ok then.

AFC STILL officially say NO TO HUNS NEW CO
maverick sheep replied to BigAl's topic in Aberdeen Football Club
I'd be more confident that the matter is to do with SFA/SFL and that SPL have stood their ground and closed that particular chapter, if what is reported would at least say "direct entry to the SFL 1" rather than continually refer to "immediate relegation to SFL 1" in the same articles where it mentions SPL clubs "rejecting" newco's admission to the SPL. Then it'd be a case of SFA/SFL answering the simple question of how they can justify a new team not only undergoing no competition in terms of bidding for a vacancy in the professional set up, but skipping half the leagues within it! The manner in which the story is being reported points to (either) total ineptitude from those commentating on the story, or(/and) a case of corruption from the clubs/footballing authorities to not only throw the rulebook out the window for the mythical cash cow that is rangers (zombified), but to try and cover it up with weasel words and a poorly stage-managed PR song and dance. My only hope is that after marching season is over, the authorities suddenly come out and clarify the matter in a way that serves both sporting integrity and basic law of the land. With such a unique opportunity to improve Scottish football, it'd absolutely be the final straw to further rig the game in favour of the single biggest agent in some of Scotland's most horrendous and embarrassing problems. -
Convenient timing to be be offering a national team season ticket with an auld enemy clash as the hook...or am i too cynical? or am i crediting the football authorities with too much intelligence?

Major Restructuring in the Pipeline for SPL
maverick sheep replied to BobbyBiscuit's topic in Aberdeen Football Club
if they were denied entry to the SPL then they cannot be relegated from it. If this happens then the "we're not going to vote them in" was hardly anything more than a PR stunt to con the fans. I can only think the "briefing" was to make green aware of this for the smooth progress of his planning for newco. -
parachute payments to sfl 1 to be increased. newco will no doubt be eligible. all these plans apparently need 8 votes from spl, plus majority from sfl, so basically we're hardly any further forward than a few days ago. thinking the celebration was jumping the gun. it was the right decision by the club, but only the first of many that are needed.
