As my pal keeps saying "it's better than any other shite that's on" which is true. And while I didn't think the rape scene was OTT at all, the 3 episodes so far have been good in places but not as good as I expected. The film tackled massive issues that were relevant to the specific period of time and related to issues that have reemerged this decade also, but nothing about the series means it needs to be set in 86. Rape, abusive fathers, love triangles, teenage sons not liking their mammies being bummed, aren't exactly time-specific. My main disappointment is they keep referring to the politics of the time, but where is the comparrison with 'England' 2010, or predictions of what it will be like in 2011, 2012 etc. The only mention of work problems is Woody having a shit job that's turning him into a nobend. The social commentary lacks a wider context basically so whereas the film was important, the series so far is nothing more than entertainment.

I've not seen anyone come out so spectacularly since Steven Gately

That's what I was worried about. He signed that almost a year ago and is out for another season. We need to sign him up again or else he'll be the greatest player we never really had.
-
He's a 17 y/o who is being paid nicely to sit on his arse and play xbox for a year. It's our depression McGhee should be concerned with as we have to watch a year with zero creativity in the middle of the park. How long was the contract Fyvie signed on for btw? 3 or 5 years?
-
Fairly sure this was said last season and proceeded to make it clear how shite we were week after week. btw I'm not saying this is a bad target to set the team but it's slightly infuriating that the AFC PR machine doesn't learn its lesson with regard to not making us look like dicks.

I was sweating and clenching the arm of the chair in fear just watching that! FUCK. THAT.
-
V: Tell me about it. I had it in storage for three years, it was out for five days and some dickless piece of shit fucked with it. L: They should be fucking killed. No trial, no jury, straight to execution. V: Boy, I wish I could've caught him doing it. I'd have given anything to catch that asshole doing it. It'd been worth him doing it just so I could've caught him doing it. L: What a fucker! V: What's more chickenshit than fucking with a man's automobile? I mean, don't fuck with another man's vehicle. L: You don't do it. V: It's just against the rules.

I'm sure it is an excuse that gets used when a guy is short AND shite, but I'm not aware of any other spl teams who's judgement has been as pish as ours in releasing Maloney and Coutts. Maloney is the type of player the modern game ruins - would have been fantastic in a team that, unfortunately but realistically, can't attract the number of quality (sic) players the OF or EPL teams can, but is lost in teams like Celtic or Villa. Coutts may have had the "I'll show em" mentality but if it hadn't been for English scouts watching Cove (while the spl scouts did absolutely fuck all) he'd have been fucked. Many others could/would have given up sooner than the 2/3 years it took for somebody to notice him. That wouldn't just have been the player's loss, that would have been the game's loss in general. I know they're exceptional cases but imagine xavi, iniesta or messi being lost to the game because of the stupidity of youth coaches. It's symptomatic of a difference in sporting culture. Spanish youth coaching is about developing skill. Nothing else. I think a lot of the problem here is to do with youth teams focussing on results rather than development. At age 13, 14 the players who will ultimately be better are often not as effective as the bigger brutes because wee guys need to learn from experience how to beat the lumbering great fuds. Tony Mowbray? Good. He's a massive bellend.

I've been swithering about whether or not to go to the 2 games before the huns because I'm not working just now so cash is tight. The sheer stubbornness of MM pushes me further towards the easy option of not paying circa £40 for the 2 match tickets + booze and travel. If everyone and his dog thinks something should be done differently then clearly it's they who are wrong and not Mghee! I don't have any confidence in Howard and I'd also expect to see our wide players in the middle and central players out wide again. Fuck paying to see that. edit - before any sanctimonious ballbag says 'we need more fans as loyal as you' I probably will end up going to one or both games. I'm just making the point that it's a harder choice to make given the above.

Langfield had a bad season last year, before that was easily our player of the year for 1, if not 2, seasons. I didn't say he was our best player in years but he's certainly one of them. I don't understand why so many people don't appreciate the guy.

It bloody well should if you finish 9th the season before. Any sign of progress at all would be a welcome achievement. -

Going by the last couple of post match interviews I wish like fuck it was a gobstopper. -
If we can't play half decent football without a player who will leave us for free at the end of this season and a player who we'll sell before he comes of age then we may as well give up now. Enough excuses. Start performing you bunch of fucking wasters!

Back to life. Back to reality. Perhaps the most embarrasing thing is that we are still 3rd in the league, having only taken points off the teams in 11th and 12th position. Or from an SPL viewpoint, the worst hun and tim teams in decades are both 6 points clear of us dross after just 4 games! I genuinely thought last season was the lowest the SPL could ever possibly sink. I hang my head in shame. -
Clangers is one of the best players we've had in years. Howard has fucked us twice in 4 games. Mitch Megginson you son of a bitch!!!!!!! *toungue in exasperated cheek smiley*

Langfield McArdle Diamond Ifil Considine Folly Hartley Pawlett Maguire Paton Magennis Howard had a run against the teams who'll likely all be bottom 6 and Alloa, which is fair enough. He helped lose us the game to Killie and unless he was outstanding against Hamilton I haven't seen anything that suggests he's good enough to start against Utd. The back line is basically the only option we have until Vujadinovic is fit. Paton is ok on the left and I think Maguire could be good in behind a target man. Magennis looks like he could be useful and certainly looks to win every ball. Vernon I've not seen enough of although he did look more likely to score against Alloa than Magennis. -
Fair point but looking at the number of times Spain hit the woodwork against Argentina and Pepe Reina having a spaz attack for the third, it could have been a different scoreline. Argentina's attacking players piss all over the Dutch attacking players so if they'd opened up they may well have been diddled. I have no doubt we'll go straight for the jugular when we play them...
