  1. Are we running a Donstalk Deaths 2011 thread?
  2. What. The. Fuck. ?
  3. I do agree with this but again, for better or worse (mostly worse) I do think he's earned his dues in the shape of a testimonial. Mackie is not comparable to the standards of our halcyon days. He shouldn't have reached the position of being deserving of a testimonial, but he's been a starter for a decade, been one of...2, 3? non-mercenaries at the club. I'm of the opinion that ANYONE who plays and is loyal to a club for a decade deserves a testimonial as a mark of gratitude. Comparisons are often drawn between football players and real world workers so the same applies. You manage to hang on to your job until retirement age (however you do so) and therefore are entitled to expect your pension.
  4. Sign of the times Bobby. It makes me sick how bad we've been in the last ten years. It's an inevitable by-product of that that the only first team player who's given 10 years service is a shit player. Nevertheless the Dnipro goal is as big, if not bigger, than anything any other player has done for AFC in that time. And as I said, If not Mackie, then we've given our last testimonial as a club in most of our lifetimes. Denying him a testimonial just seems petty or bitter from my point of view.
  5. Hilarious. Why in hell have I not heard the celebrations yet???
  6. If Mackie doesn't warrant a testimonial for his service to the club then I'd seriously doubt we'll ever see another testimonial gamr for anyone at AFC.
  7. I agree with this if we're talking about exciting signings in the sense of Gilhaus, Arteta, Di Canio etc. The type of signing which will instantly see a huge boost in sales. But I disagree if we're talking about signings that will deliver even what you describe you want to see delivered - "improving the average squad player" A bit like Dave_min says, for myself, a player who I see as ANY sort of improvement on what we had (or HAVE while those cunts kerr, casper and mulgrew are still refusing to fuck off) is what I would call an "exciting" signing. I do agree these wouldn't have a massive impact on ticket sales, but I do think they would have SOME effect. Even if they didn't turn out to improve sales, I think they would serve to halt the decline in sales. Even selling as many season and match day tickets in total as we did last season would be a major achievement.
  8. A big loon...who we're nae signing in a month of sundays
  9. I wish I agreed with you but I don't We, as a club, have nothing to offer whatsoever. In terms of where we are realistically at in Scottish football, we are on a par with Killie, Hamilton or St Johnstone. While we may have a slightly higher wage budget (we did before, but I'm not sure we still will have) but our location is less attractive to the central belt sluts and the most significant thing is that those teams I mention don't have anything like the same pressure of expectation. I'm not saying the fans shouldn't have high expectations or should quietly accept the shit performances but for the last couple years I've often stopped screaming abuse for long enough to realize that NO ONE would want a job playing for us in the current situation. If you were a player who didn't support aberdeen, what on earth would make you choose aberdeen over ANY other team in the uk?
  10. He spent the latter part of last season saying basically it's ok we're gash because I already have people in mind for next season. It's not unreasonable to expect that something substantial will happen therefore. But all it seems to be is more treading water and fannying about.
  11. See I agree with this but I can understand why that stuff gets said. They're scared to say they're aiming higher than they are expected to achieve. But I wish we lived in an era where if they have nothing to say they'd say NOTHING. I firmly believe in self-fulfilling prophesy. It's no surprise people who talk themselves down achieve comparatively little. The exact same is true of team sports. Talk yourself into being an also ran and you'll only ever be an also ran.
  12. Leitch is admiring the tramp stamp
  13. Oh jesus fucking christ. He's STILL here?! Please please please just fuck right off! NOW
  14. So any news on how the contract talks are going? He's not in the final Nigeria squad so I don't see any incentive for him staying and expect to hear of him signing a pre-contract with someone else come January, if he's not gone cheap before then.
  15. Answer's in the question.
  16. I don't remember ever watching us this season and thinking. 'if only they were fitter'. Generally what I've thought is 'if only they weren't quite so shit and/or uninterested in playing for Aberdeen'
  17. Yeah he borrows a lot based on his status but he's not exactly a safe hand with money.
  18. Glasgow initially then I'll head up to Trumpland/Milneland and have at it. I'll hook up with rocket. He's a real hardnut!
  19. Said the same thing when they were frolicking in Austria last year...maybe not the surgical enhancement bit mind you.
  20. If it's not aberdeen then i'll riot.
  21. I think I'll bear that in mind for when we start hearing excuses about poor performance being due to not being able to sign enough players.
  22. In. (unlike most of the Brighton population...)
  23. I no longer take anything as read. It's moving goalposts, smoke and mirrors and an extra portion of bullshit on the side. What happens is completely out of the club's control and we'll get whatever players we're left with. AFC are now like the fat plukey minger at the dance. No way will we get what we really want but at the end of the day there is still a hole there somewhere, so somebody will inevitably end up filling it.
  24. If they are the singer it doesn't count. In that situation they're only playing bass so that they aren't standing at a mic wi nothin to make phallic gestures with AND to everyone's benefit the band doesn't need to have an out and out bass player. Slike the sex pistols without sid vicious were nothin special and sid couldn't even really play bass. He was a celeb for his personality and image. The bass was just an unfortunate add on. Bass players are the ones who tag along wi rockstars getting groupies left right and centre without actually doing anything. Bastards.
