What did McGhee do wrong here ? I'm confused. Do we know he is focusing on one player at a time ? You can't possibly be so naive to think that if a club with more money than us goes for a player then we have some kind of rights to signing him. From the outset the club have been looking for a fee and we have no cash. Seems to me that we have worked hard to try and sign a player with little to offer and the club has found a buyer with more to offer. What is there to be angry about ? Disappointed yes, frustrated yes but to suggest that McGhee has fucked this up seems a little hysterical to me.

MacDonald took over from ZD on Saturday when he went off injured. It looks to me like MacDonald is nudging ahead in this race.

The obligatory Olomouc away roll call thread

Out of respect for Padre's own personal holiday spot I shall be staying at home. -
We should have enough in the current squad to take care of either of those teams so there shouldn't be a panic.

I'd personally prefer we just mastered the 4-4-2 for now. Something smells a little tactically naive about 4-3-3 and while it pays great service to the demands for attacking football you have to be able to ensure you can control a game as well as run about like schoolboys looking for goals. I fear we will get out muscled in midfield by too many big teams who will play a dull but effective game against us. Huns, Hearts and UTD will all out box us if we play a sloppy 4-3-3.

Love it. Bleached jeans and cock dusters a plenty. Little wonder they were all in tears.

I'm not so sure that the thin squad is a deliberate tactic here (although, granted I haven't examined McGhee's record at other clubs in detail). Lets not forget he has come to Aberdeen under some fairly exceptional circumstances. A global recession has bitten hard into clubs ability to generate income, a lucrative TV deal just collapsed and we have entered into a poorer deal subsequently. All this on top of our club trying to manage a huge debt, plan for a new stadium and generally cut our cloth accordingly has meant that any manager coming in was going to find the cupboards worse than bare. We should look to give McGhee our full support but if there is still reason to be critical then lets at least apply some understanding of the position he is likely in when trying to assemble his squad.
-
Surely he is just softening the landing for adding very little to the squad with the comments about having good players already there. Either that or he is confident that he was able to achieve a number of decent performances out of a paper thin squad of average players at Motherwell so Aberdeen's squad almost appears to be an embarrassment of riches in his eyes.

Sky & ESPN in Joint Deal for SPL Rights

I received Setanta as part of my XL package on Virgin Media. Hopefully they will be looking to replicate the deal otherwise my TV deal just got a little less value for money. -
Dundee Spend Equivalent of our Entire Budget on 1 Player

Again, you can't make assumptions about the commitment of every individual based on your own levels. There are infinite shades of grey when 'supporting' a team. In the grown up world people are balancing all sorts of options and outcomes when they point their moral compass. Its just not as black and white as 'cut me and I bleed Aberdeen'. -
EE: McGhee eyeing foreign trialists for Aberdeen FC

Nobody did, I was simply applying a non-complex frame of reference for my off-hand commentary. Can I go now ? -
EE: McGhee eyeing foreign trialists for Aberdeen FC

Austrian trialists will hardly have me dancing but lets see what the man can do. I'm all for trialists if they are being selected by someone who has half an idea about how to actually unearth talent rather than waiting until someone else has and then paying through the nose for them. -

Not every fan of a football team would die rather than do anything that didn't end up as the best for his/her team. Its the usual childish and myopic view on forums to assume that the minute you lay claim to being an Aberdeen fan that you should never take any other route in your future than to support/play for/manage/invest in your club. Maybe he felt that there would be too much pressure on him to deliver at the team he supports, maybe he felt that the small investment he had to offer would do little for us, maybe he wants to be a big fish in a small pond, maybe he offered us something and was knocked back but doesn't want to upset the club by going public, maybe he believes that a club who are debt free is a better financial investment. Who knows, I still say good luck to the man whatever his thinking. -

You have to wonder why the SPL holds such desires for a club at present. Its hardly the pot of gold to be won. Fair play to Dundee if they have managed debt out of their business and are cutting out some shrewd deals with a new director who wants to invest in their future. Good luck to them I say. If they can oust some shitty west coast hole out of the league and I can get another couple of away days to Dundee with 3-4000 Dons fans then it works for me. Sheeeeeeeet, it may even enhance the value of the SPL. Fuck knows it needs it. -
As BB says its all about their net current assets position. You would need to know their current liabilities and their current assets to understand if they are in a position to meet any likely short term demand on debts/liabilities by liquidating any short term assets. In the case of Hearts, as has been said their current liabilities are mostly in the hands of UBIG so are not likely to be called in and so their ability to repay makes them 'technically' insolvent but not in reality.

Transfer targets and a re-signing Jamie Smith?
Ajja replied to BobbyBiscuit's topic in Aberdeen Football Club
Without Setanta it may well be. -
I'm sure it used to be called the 'first round proper' up until last year, or at least referred to as that. New league set up, new names.

No fuckin' dolly mixtures in 'ere poofter

I fear this will bring out the genetic bottleneck in our support. I may have to go to boost the IQ averages at least.

I'd rather see Klimpl than Hughes. Is Hughes not similar to MacDonald and Klimpl more of an engine in midfield ? I might be spouting pish but he would be my preference. -
Indeed, the Brandywell. Utter shit hole of a stadium but great atmosphere.

What about this one (to European song, bear with me on a few lines): He is a Don, he's Mark McGhee He's not our first choice, but neither were we He's gonna do it, we hope like fuck he'll do it He's gonna do it for you.... He told the Jambos to fuck off He begged the tims for a job When the light of day showed there was no way He was a Dons man through and through. Ohhhhhh.... Or we could just go with: aberdeen aberdeen aberdeen. aberdeen aberdeen aberdee-een. aberdeen aberdeen aberdeen aber-dee-en A-BER-DEEN !

Would he have to attach an image with that ?
