Who are these clubs ? Hibs, Helen and Motherwell are all reportedly debt free are they not ? OF are unlikely to be dependant on TV money. Killie are probably pretty fucked, Falkirk ? Hamilton ? UTD ? Us ?
-
Northsound reporting Celtic making an offer and McGhee not likely to be in the frame ?

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/scotland/8085447.stm This situation is getting pretty fucked now. Setanta look like they are rubber dicking the SPL and there isn't much can be done but pull the plug on the deal. Apparently several clubs are dependant on the revenue to stay afloat

Great. So because Celtic's credibility has dropped through the floor and nobody wants the gig then our plans have to be thrown into a shitstorm. Fucking OF are always at the trough hoovering it up and no other fucker gets a look in.

Neither do I. I read it on the footy mad site and it was mentioned in another thread on here -

Apparently a radio station has reported that. Bullshit 106 or summink. -
Think he needs a dream team up with Betty Ford.

Jim McLean in bitter ramblings shocker

Fucking idiot. McLean lives in a world where comb overs were acceptable. His opinions mean nothing. -

Read that on Mad as well. Hughes being courted by Swansea as well so unlikely him ?
-
Its because he is the lyingist, cheatingist, sneakiest, stealingist, lovingist son of the old west...
-
Seems he is way down their list, if on it at all. Found it funny to see Davie Hay coming out and saying the Celtic job doesn't have the same draw anymore. If McGhee ends up there it will be a big climbdown for them with regards priority choices.

Murray is hanging in there, playing consistenly and letting this nutter make errors and he is doing so, often.
-
This Gonzalez guy is a monster. He has nothing but an enormous forehand but he is pounding Murray at the moment. He is just as likely to hammer the ball into the crowd as within the lines. Very erratic game.

I tipped Falkirk to be very strong this year. I honestly thought that with his excellent youth players that Hughes had done exactly the right thing in bringing in some old heads to bring them on. With the likes of McCann, Pressley, MacNamara and Bullen I thought they would be a very hard team to beat. Just as well I ain't in for the Dons job! Wonder what went wrong, as on paper it looked quite interesting. Can only conclude it was the management. Maybe when he has that balance right it doesn't work for Hughes, he might only know how to work with young, naive but keen players.

Forum poster in miracle swaying of entire Dons support opinions. There's the wind.........feel free to start pissing

Surely such a brick construction would require 4 skins ?

It was all but over in the first half with the huns gubbing UTD and us cruising, although a late goal for Hibs on 45 made for a nervy second half. They went to 10 men so that eased the tension a bit but a hairy last 2 minutes saw them with a couple of chances. The announcement about JC cam a few hours after the final whistle and was all very amicable but then JC came out a day or so later with some bite about it all. WM repsonded and that was that. Strachan went a few days later. Mixu a few days after that. Good holiday ?

It wouldn't have happened. Any manager is going to want to see out the season at that stage and weigh up his options. There is absolutely no incentive to make that move. If you take it and Europe slips through your fingers then you have blown the job in the first 8 games with no time to recover. A manager is going to want at least half a season before the judgements come in unless they are coming in to fix something that if they failed would be accepted as being outwith their control (relegation for example). As you have pointed out so eloquently, mickey mouse could have steered us to Europe...imagine if McGhee hadn't. Your dream would be over before it began. Like I said...moot point.
-
He certainly speaks with honesty and from the heart but its often very naive and I always think to myself 'he is really rather thick' although quite disarming. I suspect he manages in the same way, with a degree of heart but a lot of naivity and lack of intelligence. His disarming honesty probably secures him some good relationships, hence the loan deals and youth commitments. I would think it a risky appointment but who knows ?
-
So have we established it as fact that the club had decided to get rid of JC after the cup game ? Your speculation is based entirely on that premise without knowing if it the case or not. If it were the case, which particular manager do you think would have accepted the role with a handful of games left to play ? I doubt very much McGhee would have. The entire post seems like a moot point to me.

Jesus fuck. You have asked repeatedly for people to give you reasons for their opinion and your responses have been akin to that of a schoolboy. You are turning a tedious debate into an utterly fucked one. If you have nothing of value to say then please spare us this tripe.

While not getting overly excited by the thought of McGhee coming to Pittodrie I think that it would be a decent enough appointment. Its easy to knock the extensive list of candidates being drawn up, I'm pretty sure you could find many reasons why any of them are not the best choice. Unfortunately for supporters of Aberdeen FC there is a good reason for that and its because we don't have the budget or the pulling power that we wish we had. Most of the chat on here over the last few weeks has been laced with romantic desires and, dare I say it, unrealistic expectations. You can discuss ambition or 'next level' as much as you like but the simple fact is that we have severe limitations to what we can guarantee in terms of management. We have two choices in my opinion: 1. We take a risk. A young, inexperienced manager who is at the bottom of a curve and has a great future which we get to enjoy the early years of before he moves onto a bigger club. Dean Windass may be that guy but he might also be a fuckhead who makes an utter cunt of the whole thing. Thats the risk. 2. We go for security. An established manager with a degree of experience. Now in the current marketplace, the more this guy has in his locker the further out of our reach he gets. So we have to settle for a toolbox that fits our level. All pretty straight forward stuff. The other consideration is that in modern football, particularly with provincial Scottish sides, periods of loyalty that stretch more than 2-3 years are uncommon when a player or manager is doing well. This nirvana that a manager could come to Aberdeen and be very successful (beyond stability and credibility) and build us up for years to come is never happening. If we actually found a good strong manager who took us to 3rd in the league and challenging at that end with the OF as well as won us a cup and guaranteed European football then how long do you think he would be our manager ? At this stage in the game, the best I am hoping for is a quick impact manager who can give us a shot in the arm for 2 seasons. If he can straigten out the laissez faire attitude, the drinking culture, the big-time Charlies and bring discipline and professionalism to the players then I am all in support of it. If along with that he can push us on to being a strong 3rd best team with a few finals and silverware then I am all for that too. European adventures every season ? Hell yes. However, if you want to look beyond 2 years after that sort of success then I'm afraid that manager has gone. If you don't believe it then look at UTD. After 2 seasons of 5th place, a cup final and a few impressive score draws with Rangers they have been stripped of their best 2 players by Celtic and their manager is being touted around the press as the next Celtic manager. It may sound like I am settling for too little here but if you don't want to go for option 1 and take the risk (which most seem against) then you have to be realistic about what you can get in option 2. For me, McGhee will give us 1 or 2 very good seasons and then he will either fade away and we will be better for the foot up or he will be prized away. Thats why I am happy enough with him.
