Pretty sure that shot was taken well before KO. That part of the ground was where we were standing and it was much fuller than that. Surprised you can't see ally s holding up the RU banner as he was at HT
-
Kerr. Despite his red card he was the only player who looked like he wanted to boss the game.
-
Federer was very poor in that last set.

The scary thing is that I wouldn't write it off. No team in the league, including the OF is guaranteed of 3 points in any game at the moment. There are a lot of very poor sides in our league at present so its a lottery as far as I can see.
-
That just simply isn't true. There is undoubtedly a collective sense on this forum that we should be taking a wider scope and a more rational viewpoint when analysing the football, the players and the performances. To say that we are all accepting of mediocrity and that you are not allowed to criticise players is such a childish comment and only serves to back up why you are 'shot down in flames' so often.

The sending off baffled me, I didn't even realise he had been sent off until NQ pointed it out. We really had nothing to offer up front today. It was a pretty similar story to recent weeks, Kerr and Aluko running around like lunatics trying to mop up all the slack being left by others across the park. when Kerr gets the ball he seems to have very little in the way of out ball and so looks a bit lost, Jamie Smith was doing exactly the same today. It makes us look like we are utterly devoid of ideas, which we probably are. Aluko is starting to look ineffective because he is running himself into the ground trying to plug gaps. Tommy Wright looked very poor again. He is a very very diluted Lee Miller at best.

I thought the players got quite a good reaction and they clapped the fans too. Everyone was too busy giving McCurry shit.
-
Does he really believe that we will hate our own players more than we hate him ? I feel more affection for the dog shit on my shoe.

It was a section in Chick Young's 'World of Football' programme which is part of Sportsound on BBC Radio Scotland (I think it was Thursday night). The programme started at 6:10 I think, the RU guy was on around 6:30-7pm

Fair enough but in order to scope whether that is going to happen (as this debate is trying to do) what benchmark do you use ?
-
Fair enough mate I have argued that we should trust the management to decide when these guys are ready for the first team so I'd be a hypocrit if I then suggested they are not to be believed when they tell us how great they are. Still more inclined to take real evidence like call ups and league success but I'll accept your invitation onto the middle ground for now

Anyone hear the Ultras rep on Chick Youngs World of Football show on Thursday night ? Chick Young was 'intrigued' by the Boavista banner at the game on Wednesday and interviewed some guy, forget his name...Sam something ? Was quite an interesting interview other than Young creaming himself about teams joining up and 'holding hands across the divide' Alan Preston was also complimenting them for their presence at the Eats Fife game.

Pittodrie is a depressing place, says Aberdeen FC chief

Hopefully Miller and the management team are clear who has the repsonsibility to lift that dark cloud. That's what they are paid to do. -
Laws of probability dictate that only a %age of youth internationalists will make it. You can be fairly certain that 99% of current international full squad players came through this system so there are also many many examples of players who have been successful as well as failed. Quoting an example of a failure or a success is not necessarily indicative of the system only proof that it sometimes works and it sometimes deosn't. You can keep knocking the idea that international recognition is an adequate benchmark by using exceptional examples but do you have a more effective yardstick ? I'm genuinely interested to hear a better way to conclude that our youth squad is better than average.
-
Have to agree with Sweetchuck here. In the absence of any other acceptable benchmark you have to take his analysis as the best we have and it doesn't point to much of an extraordinary youth squad. Despite the comment that its not about winning the league, if our youth teams are not winning regularly and comfortably then I am not inclined to expect great things from them. If its then all about individual stars then international squad selection should be a good enough measure as there are several qualified people who will oversee those decisions at different levels, its not all about Burley. I haven't heard anyone make a compelling case as an alternative to Sweetchucks view ? Just because the club comes out and says they have some really exciting youth players set to push through to the first team, doesn't mean they do. Week in week out Calderwood and several players come out and say all manner of things that do not transfer onto the park.

We might even see some passion from the players. That would be a nice change

C'mon mate, I started this thread to take my mind off tonights game. If Miller and MacDonald are back we should mix it up a bit for Saturday, don't you think ?
-
Just have my tongue firmly placed in my cheek mate You have to see the funny side of it ?
-
Hey ho. Onwards and upwards. What's everyones feeling about this game I'd stick with the side that did us proud tonight, should put Hibs to the sword no bother and claim 3rd. C'MON DONS

Thank you and Goodbye / Calderwood's position untenable

One of the worst games I have watched in a long while. Despite Dunfermline flooding the final third the entire game and killing it as any sort of spectacle we should be good enough to combat those tactics from such a poor side. So many times we got the ball in their half and the players were all looking at each other wondering what to do with it. It was embarrassing. A terrible pitch, two terrible teams playing terrible football. I'm genuinely stunned by the standard of football I just witnessed. Can't say any more. Simply ripped asunder. -

Aluko & Smith wide, Mackie & Maguire upfront. WE WANT FIVE Langfield Foster ZD Mair Mulgrew Aluko Kerr Seve Smith Mackie Maguire Looks like a good set up -
Think you will find that this is a whole new level of cost reductions. When the huns are laying off office staff and tarting their top players in the transfer window then its a totally different ball game. Our trimming down in the early 2000's will not be enough to cope with the current situation. The world is in financial meltdown and football clubs are just as vulnerable as any, if not more. Banks can no longer carry football clubs in the way they have been. Its the quickening, I tell thee.
