  1. Completely agree, there is no way any other striker could warrant either Mackie or Miller being dropped for them. Incidentally, what have Maguire's performances been like for the reserves?
  2. No surprise there then!
  3. Dons star Maguire in plea to face Hibs Teen striker ready to prove himself Published: 15/11/2008 frustrated: Chris Maguire. More Pictures DONS striker Chris Maguire wants the chance to prove he can lead the attack today – and pile on more misery for Hibs. The 19-year-old is frustrated he has been left to warm the bench this season. Buoyed by a debut Scotland Under-21 call, Maguire is desperate to prove his worth at Easter Road. He said: “This season has been so frustrating because I have been on the bench for most of the games. “I would have liked a lot more starts because I know I can score goals. “My last start was towards the beginning of the season, so it was a boost to be named in the Scotland U-21 squad. “All I can do is work hard in training and keep scoring goals for the reserves which I have been doing. “I want the chance to play Hibs as I have always played well against them and received praise from the gaffer for that. “If that break comes along today I am ready to grab it with both hands. “Hibs have lost their last couple of games at home, so we have to go down there looking for three points. “I want to give them another defeat, and hopefully I can get the chance to play a part in that.†Struggling Hibs have not won a game since they overcome the Dons 2-1 at Pittodrie on October 4. In contrast Aberdeen have enjoyed a mini-revival to break into the top six. And Maguire reckons they will never have a better chance of leaving Easter Road with three points. “Every time we play Hibs it is always very close,†he said. “Aberdeen should have beaten them last time at Pittodrie as we created much more chances, we just couldn’t take them. “It is vital we put that right at Easter Road and capitalise on our good play. “On their day Hibs can be a really good team who pass the ball well, but we know Aberdeen can beat them. “It is up to us to go out there today and prove that by scoring goals and moving up the SPL table.†A 2-1 midweek win over St Mirren elevated Aberdeen up into fifth place in the SPL, just five points behind Dundee United in third. And after tasting European football with the Dons last season Maguire is out to overhaul United - and secure a UEFA Cup berth. “We must beat Hibs today to start a run of form,†he said. “The lads were happy to get into the top six after the win over St Mirren, but we want more. “We want to move higher and higher up the league, and take that third spot.â€
  4. My thoughts exactly, as was he not playing for the reserves/first team at the beginning of the season? Don't know enough about Black or Cowie to know if i'd have them in the team ahead of Walker.
  5. According to MAD, via another AFC chat site, apparently Josh Walker is on his way to ICT. This would obviously free up Cowie, would we want him if he was available?
  6. I agree, I would rather we picked up three points tomorrow than anything else. If there is some good play in between, great, but first and foremost, we need to win. We played well in the second half on saturday and lost. Come on you Reds!!
  7. Byrne is looking for a move back up North after he didn't get an extension on his deal at Oldham! Apparently ICT are running the rule over him with a view to signing him in Jan.
  8. Shhhhh you'll jinx our defence!
  9. Can't play till January
  10. It wouldn't surprise me at all, because otherwise it will be viewed that the "boo boys" have won. Despite the fact they/we are correct. He doesn't deserve a bloody starting spot! Sub appearance and no more, I can't even mind the last good game he had!
  11. So does that mean we will lose then?
  12. Must admit, I was bored and only listened to about 20 mins of the game but was checking the score ont he phone. I tuned in again before the first goal went in Then stayed tuned to hear an actual cheer at the end from the Pittodrie crowd. Such a novel experience I thought I better remind myself of what it was like.
  13. completely agree! I'm sorry Legendline83, either accept it or don't. There is nothing we can do in the immediate.
  14. Lucky for us then that Aluko is a midfielder then eh Who cares though, we won, we got the three points. As I said in another thread, yes its not pretty and we've been far from convincing, but I don't care, we're getting there. We've always been slow starters, albeit a lot slower this season but we're making progress. Smile, it might never happen
  15. As I said to BB a while back, to which he thought I was mental, we'll be 3rd by December Even my Tim mate today couldn't believe it is actually going to happen. I know its not been pretty and we've been far from convincing and hell its very much frustrating we haven't taken advantage of a VERY tight league, but oh well. We're making progress. Second isn't that far away Stand Free
  16. Big style, but the few games I have been to and seen Macdonald play in, I'm quite convinced that he will become the next "Nicholson" if you will. Time will tell though. I think we all knew how good a squad we potentially had last season, just a shame we couldn't keep it together for the whole season and beyond.
  17. As I said, I was happy we won, and not dwelling on the negatives people seem to be pointing out, roll on next Saturday! Anyone have any idea when the highlights will be up?
  18. I'd agree with that. However Iwulemo has scored a lot more goals than Miller has this season for his club has he not?
  19. i'm just glad we got three points and more than one goal. Should give the players some much needed confidence at home. Lets just hope we have no more defensive fuck ups like last saturday this saturday!
  20. Miller can make Scots mark, says Calderwood By Michael Gannon Published: 12/11/2008 HIT MAN: Andrew Considine, left, celebrates with team-mate Chris Maguire after scoring. Kenny Elrick More Pictures Aberdeen manager Jimmy Calderwood has challenged Dons attacker Lee Miller to force his way into George Burley's Scotland squad. The 25-year-old forward, who played a key role in last night's 2-0 victory against St Mirren, was omitted fro the Scotland squad to face Argentina at Hampden next week despite impressive performances in recent weeks. Miller did not let the disappointment affect him at Pittodrie last night as Andrew Considine's 80th-minute opener and Sone Aluko's second three minutes from time gave Aberdeen a hard-fought victory in a wretched encounter. Calderwood said: “George Burley has plenty of options so it is up to him. He watched Lee on Saturday so he knows what he can do. “George told me Lee was in his thoughts a few months ago, so, while it is disappointing for Lee, he knows he is being considered. “It is up to him to keep battling away and keep up his form. “He was frustrated against St Mirren because the service was poor but I would have felt the same if I was him. Lee knows the interest is there and it is up to him to create some headlines for himself." Calderwood was pleased with his side as Aberdeen claimed their second home victory of the season which did not seem likely as the match entered the latter stages. The Dons toiled for long periods against an organised Buddies side but eventually found the breakthrough when Considine blasted home a Mark Kerr cutback before Aluko sealed the victory with three minutes remaining. Until the opening goal a season-low Pittodrie attendance of 9,452 was becoming increasingly disgruntled with their side's display but Considine insisted the ends justified the means as the Dons climbed to fourth in the SPL ahead of tonight's fixtures. Considine said: “It was always going to be a hard game but we dug in and got the result. “I know the football was not that great and the supporters were not too happy but the three points were the main thing. “It is massive to be up to fourth in the table. A few weeks ago we were bottom and down in the dumps but now if results go for us tonight we can be fourth going to Hibs on Saturday. “To win ugly is just as important as thrashing teams. Too many times we have played better than teams and lost. “We did not have the best of games but we were strong collectively and the defence was solid. “The supporters have been disappointed with the results at home, they have been great, but we knew they were not enjoying it but you have to shut those things out. “Mark Kerr did brilliantly down the line to cut it back, I just got my head down and hit it. It was a good goal but I was just happy to help the team out. “I have made my fair share of mistakes, so it was equally good to get the clean sheet. I felt bad over the weekend. I have not been able to eat and it takes it out of you. I struggled a bit during the game but the goal helped."
  21. SS when did I say that Pakistani's are the only muslims? I'm just saying there is a league available to solely Muslims which would insinuate that there are a number of muslims or Pakistani's who play/like football. Having lived in Manchester and the area I was talking about, a lot of them were Pakistani and they played football
  22. Thats quite scary really. think we have been here before with zero(rip x) a luxury player we can ill afford, when we have a left back, who cant defend behind him (mulgrew is a midfielder, as once, seve was a GREAT midfider. not blaming either, blaming jimmy for not having a clue how to set up a team. aluko is great for 10mins tops in a game. mackie is pish but at least hes our colour o pish. I'm not saying there isn't racism at Pittodrie, but its less vocal, but some of that shite on that board disgusts me.
  23. Indeed! Apparently Hughes was on Sultana saying that judging by the highlights Killie should have won I always struggle to understand the logic with the people who do the highlights, because they usually miss the most important stuff!
