But with that kind of attitude, you are restricting people to fewer options of what sports to participate in.
The football team in a city, in this case AFC, adds a lot to the economy, yes. Lots of people of varying ages can go along and watch us play every second week. But the facilities at Pittodrie (we won't go into the ifs and buts of having a community stadium for now) aren't available to the public outwith these match days, so the decision to close swimming pools/ice rinks in local areas that kids/adults/pensioners can use to get fit and healthy and take part in exercise (something the Government is trying to promote, allegedly) shouldn't be based on the idea that less businesses would suffer than if AFC were to go down the Gretna road. They aren't comparable.
'The importance of football teams' is a narrow minded football fans' opinion in my view. Thankfully we are all grown ups here who appreciate that life and the economy does not revolve around football. (A golf course on the Aberdeenshire coast would work wonders on the economy though...take note John Swinney...)
