  1. The problem is the squad is so threadbare after McGhee that once the loan signings go home if we let all the out of contract players go then we are in a position of needing to sign an entire team of players in the summer. Now this is maybe what the team needs but as a club we just don't have the finances to be paying that kind of money out in one transfer window and any manager in the world would struggle to get sufficient quality for so many signings. I understand peoples apathy, and despair at me trying to take positives from a defeat to St Mirren. This season however has been a disaster from day 1 and to judge the team and management properly we really need to wait until next season, but even then the damage McGhee has done may take a year or two to sort out. At the moment we need to take the positives where we can. We gave a few players a decent run out and genuinely looked good until McArdle went off on Wed. Even the defence looked decent but it is a very fragile unit and the fell to bits and conceded two terrible goals. I'm pretty sure Brown and Knox are well aware of where the problems lie (certainly their signings in Jan would suggest they at least have more awareness than McGhee, though that's not saying much) We had alot of youngsters out there on Wed and for them as much as anything we should be showing some support and encouragement as they are our future. In Pawlett, Jack, Fyvie and Maguire we have some of the most promising players to come through in recent years which should prompt at least some optimism. After the season we've had and the dross we've had to watch I quite enjoyed the St Mirren game as a game of football and although the result is embarrassing at this stage of the season we have nothing to play for in the league. Lets back the side through the next three games and see if we can achieve the unthinkable next Sat, after that look to the future, get a few more youngsters having 90mins and start preparing for next season. As terrible as we have been we weren't a million miles from top 6 and if injuries had been kinder we might even have sneaked in. I know it is against the Aberdonian grain but lets try and see some hope for the future
  2. Highlights: http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/scotland/13005284.stm Confirms my recollection of some decent attacking play and dominated the first and start of the second. Then gave away to absolute gifts thanks to Young and Paton (amongst others). I have seen us lose to Well and United, Draw with St Mirren and St J and in the last month and would say yesterday was one of our better performances. If we hadn't have lost McArdle I doubt we would have lost that game. Still alot of work to be done but positives to build on in the next couple of games as we head toward the semi

  4. Strange game. Absolute shambles for first 10mins but then totally dominated the 1st half, BBC had us at 62% possession. Having said that although we had a few decent shots we never really tested their keeper or created a clear cut chance. 2nd half we come out on the front foot and more than deservedly draw level and look like we'll probably push on and win the game. Then McArdle gets injured and from that point on we reverted to a shambles. Couldn't keep hold of the ball and were bullied into mistakes absolutely gifting two goals, with question marks over Young at both (in RB position) and Smith for the first and Paton the second. They created a few other chances before our customary late goal at the new St Mirren Park, unfortunately not enough to get a point, which may have been fair enough. Game finished with Langfield down holding his ankle after a late challange. Over all the defence didn't actually play too horrifically until McArdle went off. Pawlett and Paton were looking lively out wide, although why we insist on playing PP on the left is beyond me, while the front two were lively first half. Jack and Vernon did little when they came on and Vuj had the odd scary moment. Overall probably better than recent games first half, and as bad as recent games 2nd half. If we are to have any chance in the Semi we need to keep our 1st choice back four (who ever they are) together and fit and hope our midfielders all regain full fitness. Finally, apart from the result, excellent entertainment value for £9. Bring on Hibs
  5. But KK was already doing reasonably well at Killie was he not before going to Hearts who are probably better equipped to give him goal scoring chances.
  6. http://www.donstalk.co.uk/messageboard/index.php?topic=14170.0 Phone up St Mirren and you can get student tickets for £10 and collect them at the ground
  7. We were talking about this at the weekend (again, again....) Without the split there is and would have been nothing to play for in the league for weeks. True top 6 is an artificial construct and no real achievement but nobody can deny it adds a bit of interest to games at this time of the season. Equally it makes it a far better run in to the season finale for the top sides to be playing each other rather than seeing who can score the most vs Hamilton. I say keep the split. I enjoy it, I believe some others have/are copying the idea so it can't be that bad and reducing to 10 will certainly make no difference to tv money, crowds, excitement, ability, skill or achievement.
