  1. As the 3rd round is before our season starts is there any chance the games could be moved to a Saturday (if the other club is agreeable) rather than a Thur?
  2. The thinking being that ESPN (owned by Disney) want to get a foot hold in Europe/UK and this would be a cheap way of doing it without chasing around for rights themselves. Whether, if this happened, the existing contracts would remain as they are is fairly doubtful I would think. That figure looks brilliant for us but don't forget that will be based on our last set of results that saw our turnover effectively double thanks to our euro run (and cup runs), so I suspect our reliance on TV money is more significant than that table may suggest
  3. You mean Bennet do you not, and he is/was on the board at Tannadice (although admittedly his son is a dandy)
  4. I know this is afc we're talking about, but surely if they are posting up stuff like that McGhee WILL be our manager. Even by afc standards losing out on him now would be a monumental fuck up.
  5. +1 There seems to have been a bit of a re-writing of history. Towards then end of the season pretty much everyone seemed to be in agreement that JC had done a good job but, for various reasons, it was time for a change. I have no doubt that afc needed to say "thanks but goodbye" to JC this summer as the club, support and football had stagnated, if not fallen back a notch or so in the last 12-18months. There is no doubt JC could have delivered more of the same (sneaking top 6, finishing 4th or 5th, losing out in cups) and that was undoubtedly the safe option, but few people ever win anything by playing it safe. At some point you have to take a risk to move yourself forward. People now seem to be conflating this with the so called JMG-mob (no thanks to Niall it has to be said). In reality outside of a few lunatics there have never been any JMGers or JIGers. Change is always unnerving, and perhaps McGhee won't do better than JC. Perhaps he'll do worse. But perhaps he'll do better. I know I'm more excited about the new season without JC than I was with the prospect of JC. Welcome aboard Mark. I know you'll have the full backing of the fans and hopefully we can put an end to this pointless, depressingly repetitive bickering about Jimmy Calderwood. He has gone, I see no reason to celebrate this fact endlessly nor do I see any mileage in continuing to cry about it. I dare say some folk are desperate to say "I told you so" at McGhee's first slip-up, "we should have kept JC", but that is as bad and as pathetic as Niall's constant bullshit. Welcome aboard Mark, and if you could bring Clarkson with you that would be smashing
  6. what happened to you Nellie? Did you cancel your account on here and re-register? In answer to your question, nae idea. Perhaps one of the more, achum, mature, individuals on here could help out
  7. Don't find it unsettling. I find it encouraging that he wasn't so blinded by the money that he went to Hearts, but is quite happily coming to Aberdeen for a smaller wage (than Hearts). Welcome home MMc and I would be delighted if he brought Hughes and Clarkson with him.
  8. hmmmm slyfox? surely not the same slyfox who used to regale us with his rumours on old DT?
  9. UEFA Cup is seeded. Here is a full list of likely seeds for the qualifying rounds http://www.xs4all.nl/~kassiesa/bert/uefa/seedel2009.html We will definitely be seeded for Q2 and Q3. If we make it to Q4, as on the Mad post, it will be tough to get a seeded spot.
  10. For the latest in-depth what-if-ery I recommend this thread on Mad, afc seeds in Q4? http://boards.footymad.net/forum.php?tno=4&fid=27&sty=2&act=1&mid=2125860898 and who we might play in Q3 (which we will be seeded for) Potential Teams in Qualifying Round 3 if seeded teams go thru:- IF Elfsborg** Swe 6.938 Young Boys (**) Sui 6.050 Motherwell* Sco 5.575 AA Gent ** Bel 5.065 FairPlayWinners * Den 4.890 Valerengen IF Nor 4.760 Fredrikstad FK Nor 3.760 Legia Warsaw (*/**) Pol 3.583 TBA ** Aut 3.565 Dinamo Tbilisi */** Geo 3.332 Vojvodina Novi Sad (**) Srb 3.050 FK Sevojno ** Srb 3.050 Beitar Jerusalem ** Isr 3.050 TBA * Isr 3.050 APOP Kinyras Peyias Cyp 3.016 Omonia Nicosia ** Cyp 3.016 IFK Goteborg Swe 2.938 MFK Kosice Svk 2.932 Spartak Trnava */** Svk 2.932 St. Patrick's Athletic** Irl 2.899 Derry City ** Irl 2.899 Nova Gorica ** Slo 2.816 TBA (*/**) Pol 2.583 Hajduk Split Cro 2.466 NK Rijeka ** Cro 2.466 Slaven Koprivnica * Cro 2.466 Rabotnicki Skopje ** Mac 2.032 HJK Helsinki ** Fin 1.957 Honka Espoo ** Fin 1.957 CupWinners Slo 1.816 Honved Budapest Hun 1.633 + 4 Others TBA
  11. Interesting to see how well Seve and Mackie have rated given the weekly, or even daily, abuse they got for most of the season. Only other mystery is how Bossu got as much as 4.9
  12. They do know there is a wee game at Hampden (and Wembley, and Rome) that might over shadow any announcement at Pittodrie do they not?
  13. you miss my point sir People are still bitching on about people (JMGers for want of a better description) slagging off Jimmy Calderwood and chasing him out; while others are moaning on about how JIGers can't see that they were right all along. I agree most folk were fairly indifferent, although most opinion seemed to be falling down on the "probably time for change" side since Dunfermline.
  14. 1) Stop greeting like bairns about folk wanting rid of JC? 2) Stop greeting like bairns about folk wanting JC to stay? It was boring months ago. It is even more boring now.
  15. See I don't share this hostility to McGhee. I hope JC's legacy isn't a terminally divided support, but I doubt it, despite what Stoney and others may say
  16. I don't know if these JIGers exist but I do know (hope) that all those on here who have defended JC over the last 2 years will give the new man their full support and backing (unless it is Jim Jeffries) and will refrain from the constant "told you so sniping" that the JMGers (sic) seem to delight in, hopefully
  17. ...........for Celtic http://www.thescottishsun.co.uk/scotsol/homepage/sport/spl/article2446450.ece
  18. I don't think wanting a manager out after 2+yrs of rumblings of discontent amongst the dons support is fickle. Your point about Hughes doesn't really stand up either as they did a hell of a lot better when he just worried about playing good football. When he tried to fill the team full of experienced "winners" to add a bit of bite to their team and take them into the top six he almost got them relegated. Despite their (and his failings) they never looked in danger of the drop, playing some reasonable football, in previous seasons. If it was just a case of mediocre football you might have a point. But it would be another year of mediocre football with the same mistakes repeated ad nauseam. Yes we could play safe. We could keep Calderwood, endure the season and have a great last day. I know I wouldn't be heading North very often, even if I renewed my season ticket, and we would have a season much like the last two, with the only unknown being the Euro run (or otherwise) Sacking/mutual consenting Calderwood is a risk, but sometimes you have to take risks. And after 5 years of a consistent level of performance, but crucially no vast improvement (save for the first season obviously) it was time to take a risk. IMHO
