tbh I am in favour of the development. The North East needs to make the most of its resources, and tourism will, or atleast should become alot more important as the oil runs out. As a side note the North East should have been the site for the centre looking into the development of wind and wave power, but I'm sure that was sited elsewhere despite the wealth of engineering expertise in the North East. I was trying to stimulate a modicum of debate as seemingly everyone on here is 100% behind it. I do feel that the fact Trump and his millions were involved blinded some politicians from making serious decisions. The housing development, for example, would surely have been questioned a bit more if Trump hadn't eschewed compromise and debate for threats of withdrawal if he didn't get his way and equally other developers would have been encouraged to move a couple of holes a wee bit away from the dunes, without significantly affecting the project. Trump showed no interest in such standard practice and resorted to bully boy threats of "my way or I'm out of here" And bilbo, who I voted for in the election has nothing to do with it. I was pointing out that the government were, as all governments inevitably do, pandering to a rich famous man, in much the same way as NuLabour did despite the criticism of the tories before them for the exact same.

The bulldozing of planning legislation at the behest of a multimillionaire and the precedent that sets (have money, get your way - see labour, New.) The resultant damage to an area of a rare habitat and an area of significant scientific interest. A large unnecessary housing estate built to fund the resort. A exclusive golf resort for rich americans and oil execs that will employ the minimum staff at the minimum wage and be inaccessible to most in the north east

How often does a new course get on the Open circuit? Aberdeen/shire and the North East already have some excellent courses and as I said Royal Aberdeen will host the Walker Cup in 2011, probably as big a competiton as there has ever been in the North East. Interesting to note that the Loch Lomond resort has been having serious financial problems too: http://www.theherald.co.uk/sport/golf/display.var.2465412.0.Loch_Lomond_still_on_course_to_host_the_Scottish_Open.php

Has Aberdeen not held the seniors Open and the Walker Cup? Would this have been approved if the celebrity of Trump wasn't attached to it? Rich, famous guy getting his way and damn the consequences?

Everyone goes on about how great it is to have a world class course in the North East of Scotland. Is Royal Aberdeen not recognised as one of the best courses in Britain? Are we assuming loads of golfers will suddenly arrive in the North East because of the name Trump?
  10. out of interest anyone any idea how other strike forces in the SPL are doing (scum excepted) The goal scoring rate this season is shocking and barely a goal per game for most sides. At a guess Motherwell and hibs are probably the only two where the strikers have chipped in with a respectable number of goals. Can't remember such a low scoring league in a while. Is it as much to do with the total lack of creativity in the middle and out wide in the SPL as it is to do with shit strikers?
  11. I don't see the point of your story you ended up in the fair play stand also with "modern" turnstile technology I'm still at a loss to understand how united let too many folk into the shed that day
  12. last time this happen did alot of folk just not bother going to save all the hassle? I suspect that there will be a big queue at 1400 but come 1445 you'll be able to get in relatively easily, although maybe not get an amazing seat (is it not normally a free for all anyway, even when all ticket?) Will they be digging out the raffle tickets to exchange for our £20+ entrance fee?
  13. maybe if enough of us go down they'll over fill it again and have no control over the stand, again. Tayside Police almost make Grampian Police look competent
  14. shed=best away end in the league
  15. stop falling over start scoring goals then he should be considered for a Scotland place no where near just now however
  16. SPL runners-up get Euro parachute Uefa has confirmed that Scotland's runners-up will drop into the Europa League next season if they lose their opening Champions League qualifier. Rangers exited from European competition in August after losing their opening qualifier to FBK Kaunas. The winners of this season's Scottish Premier League will go directly to the group stages of the Champions League. The Scottish Cup winners, or possibly runners-up, will join the Europa League campaign in the final qualifying round. European football's governing body last month decided to replace the Uefa Cup with the Europa League, an expanded tournament designed to mirror the Champions League. Qualification for the Champions League is also set to change for Scottish clubs, with second qualifying round opponents potentially including a top team from the Netherlands, with sides from the Premier League in England as possible opponents in the third qualifying round. Scotland's 10th place in the Uefa co-efficient rankings has guaranteed the SPL winners direct progress to the Champions League groups stages, despite the poor performances of Scottish teams in Europe this season. The fourth-placed team in the SPL will enter at the second qualifying round stage of the Europa League, with the third place side joining them one round later. This change in structure means that, should the SPL runners-up fail to reach the Champions League, they will automatically enter at the third qualifying round stage of the Europa League. The side that finish fourth in the SPL face a short summer break, with the first leg of their second qualifying round tie scheduled for 16 July 2009.

  19. what am I listening to? The Official Scotland CD
  20. I didn't say I believed that to be the case, merely that it is an argument I have seen before. Certainly from what I've read Chris Anderson was the real driving force behind the dons and perhaps with his illness and premature death we lost some of that. As for making a profit last year. I believe we did make a profit but that was before loan repayments etc so we still made a loss.
  21. I'm sure we did play well but almost without exception our best, most entertaining games since JC has arrived have been against Hibs. Although it sounds promising I suspect that we will revert to type against Falkirk and Hearts. It could be argued that Chris Anderson and Dick Donald failed to sufficiently capatilise on our success in the 80s, thus laying the foundations for our inevitable downturn. Letting Ian Donald take over merely exacerbated the problem
  22. It's hard to argue with any of that. However I feel that even given the meagre resources JC has been given (and in the main they are more substantial than most) he should have done better than he has. Any team can blow one cup semi final. To lose 2 so spectacularly and seemingly learn nothing is an indictment on his ability. To continuously fuck about with the team, as he did last year and this, seemingly clueless as to it's best composition, is equally not good enough. To still not to have replaced Anderson and play imposters like Bossu in our most important game of the season to date is down right negligent. None of this is the boards fault.
  23. That's the thing. Are we to accept that this is as good as it will get? Is it wrong, or "unrealistic" to hope, expect, that the club can do better? Surely we are bigger and better than most clubs in the SPL. Should our expectations not be above the same "half-arsed success" that the rest have had? Should we not be aiming to be getting into europe most seasons? Should we not be aiming for cup finals and cup wins? Should we not, at the very least, expect a manager to replace our main (only) centre back after 18months? Should we not expect some ambition from the club? Perhaps a change won't work. Perhaps it will. The unremitting mediocrity of our league performances over the last 18months is surely not hard to better.
