Maybe I am alone here but I quite enjoyed last night. Ok the football wasn't great and there were very few attempts on goal but it was good to be back watching football in he flesh, rather the glitzy glamour of what they call the European Championships. For a pre-season friendly the crowd seemed to be in good voice and there was a reasonable amount of banter. (on a side note it was good to see a good number of kids there, having a good time, certainly the ones behind us were almost wetting themselves every time their keeper was greeted with the "oooooooooooooooooohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh-you shite bastard-aghhhh" chant. As for the team, pretty much agree with what PC says. Duff played well, but isn't a winger and the young lad at left back probably could have done with a proper winger to combine with down that side as he looked failry lively and interested in getting forward. Kerr looked failry impressive and composed and Maguire caused their defence some problems. Other than that most were either less than ethusiastic, clearly lacking match practice or content on just seeing the game through. Main concerns were that we really should have had some more shots on goal, it's a friendly FFS just have a pop, and it looks like we still need somebody to come in and freshen up our attacking play (either a winger or striker...or both) Finally who was the lad in the red shorts who was warming up at half time but never got a game?

The lads still only 19. By no means the finished article but showed enough promise towards the end of last season when he got a run to warrent this contract. Good luck to he lad.

SPL Boost for Gaelic Fans PDF Print E-mail Tuesday, 15 July 2008 At today's SPL AGM, the clubs agreed a deal with MNE Media, one of Scotland's leading independent TV production companies. The deal will mean that fans will be able to see full match coverage of one Clydesdale Bank Premier League match on BBC Gaelic every Saturday night over the next two seasons. BBC Gaelic is a new digital channel which will be launched on 19th September. It will be available, with no subscription required, via satellite and cable platforms. MNE Media will select one game from each round of fixtures as the feature match to be shown on an as-live basis around three hours after the final whistle. Their focus will be on matches which are not covered either live by Setanta Sports or on an on-demand basis by BT Vision. Lex Gold, Executive Chairman of the SPL said, "This is an interesting initiative and one that we hope will help make the new BBC digital channel attractive to viewers. TV coverage of this kind helps to sustain and build interest in the SPL and our clubs, not only today, but for the next generation of fans. Our broadcasting plans for next season are now almost comnplete and we are pleased that we are able to provide enhanced coverage of the League" Setanta Sports have acquired the live rights to 60 live Clydesdale Bank Premier League matches each season until the end of 2013/14. The SPL also announced a two year deal with BT Vision which will enable them to show an additional 28 matches via their on-demand service until the end of season 2009/10. The SPL also has a highlights deal with BBC Scotland that runs until the end of season 2009/10 with the option for a further two years, and another deal with Sportfive to showcase the competition overseas. Meanwhile at today's SPL AGM, Lex Gold was re-elected Chairman, while the Board comprises Campbell Christie (Falkirk), Rod Petrie (Hibernian), Eddie Thompson (Dundee United) and Martin Bain (Rangers)

Just returned from a holiday in Uganda, where my brother has been working for the past 6months. The Ugandan press was unsurprisingly full of stories about Csaba going to Hearts, little did I know that the Scottish Press had similar stories and that by the time I got home he would have already been unvielled as the Hearts Manager. Apparently not universally loved in Uganda he however managed to win round many of his critics with an away draw and the home win vs Angola in the African Nations/World Cup Qualifiers, their best result since beating Nigeria a few years ago (although Berti Vogts was Nigeria manager at the time so that maybe doesn't count). Certainly seems to have built a solid side in a country that has never really had any football success and whos own league has teams such as the URA (Ugandan Revenue Authority) and the Police. The Ugandan press also linked hearts with a couple of players: David Obua, who plays left wing/full back, and is, according to my brother, decent enough but a lazy bastard and Hassan Wasswa who my brother knows nothing about. Certainly seems to be a typically off the wall Mad Vlad appointment by Csaba does have some decent experience in club football in Europe and seems to have done a good job in Uganda, albeit under very different circumstances. Hopefully he goes the same way as all the rest have since Vlad appeared in his submarine. -
Stolen off Pie and Bovril with my answers. What's your greatest hope for this season? Keeping in touch with the OF and a cup win (of any sort) at long last - And your biggest fear? Mid-table/bottom six mediocrity and humiliation in the cups (again) - Most important player ummm, ahh probably someone we haven't bought yet but given the state of our defence probably our only recognised half decent defender - Zander Diamond - Cult hero/terrace favourite again if there is something we really lack it is a cult hero. I'll go for Ricky Foster on account of the sheer amazement at him actually being allowed to play every week- "What's that coming over the hill, It's Ricky Foster" - Keep an eye out for. (young player) Strachan, McVittie...oh what do you mean we let them go - Player you'd happily drive to his next club. With McNamara and Bus gone, and given the lack of players we have at the moment I doubt we can afford to actively get rid of anyone - What one change would you make at your club? Change the attitude of the board - They need to show some optimism and ambition and most importantly back their fans instead of constantly laying into us and blaming us for all the clubs ills, for that they need to look closer to home - Have you got the right manager? Who knows. On a good day - Celtic in the cup, Europe, Rangers at pittodrie most times - then absolutely yes. On a bad day - killie away, cup semifinals etc - god NO. Needs more good days this season or he'll be chased out. - What advice would you give him? Football is a simple game, played by simple players. Stop trying to complicate things. Play a settled formation with the best players in their best positions and we will win far more than we lose - Which team do you most want to beat this season? Rangers at Ibrox or United at Tannadice, it's been too long - Opposition player you despise I'll avoid the easy "hun" option and go for Noel Hunt - Opposition player you secretly admire Barry Robson - Where will you finish? Between 3rd and 6th

another one bites the dust: Hearts set to miss out on Weiss Hearts target Vladimir Weiss is the favourite to land the manager's job with Slovakia. The Slovak football federation has announced that Jan Kocian's contract will be terminated on 30 June. And Artmedia Bratislava coach Weiss, who has had talks with the Tynecastle club, is being strongly tipped to take over the national side. Motherwell's Mark McGhee turned down an approach from Hearts in May and Stephen Frail remains as interim boss. Former France manager Jacques Santini and German legend Lothar Matthaus have emerged as possible candidates for Hearts. Icelander Gudjon Thordarson has also been linked with the manager's position, along with Andrei Zygmantovich. A former Russian international, Zygmantovich has coached Belarussian side MTZ Ripo and is now assisting at Kaunas, both clubs with strong connections with Hearts owner Vladimir Romanov. Frail took charge of team matters in January after Anatoly Korobochka returned to his role as director of football at Tynecastle. Korobochka and Frail had been co-managing the side following the departure of Valdas Ivanauskas in March 2007. While Frail has admitted that he does not expect to be given the job permanently, he is available to oversee the club's preparations for next term. Weiss held talks with the Edinburgh club two weeks ago and told BBC Sport: "It would be an honour to manage Hearts. "I'm very interested as the Scottish league would be a step up from the Slovakian league." However, the lure of international management may keep Weiss in his homeland. Slovakia have been drawn in a World Cup qualifying group with Czech Republic, Poland, Northern Ireland, Slovenia and San Marino. -

I'm sure someone has posted a link to this site before but it has been recently up dated. DT Awards 07-08: Best Away Boozer (Domestic)
glasgow sheep replied to mizer's topic in Aberdeen Football Club
I really rated Behind the Wall in Falkirk. Obviously the Roseburn was good but that was much more to do with the crowd than anything about the pub. In fact following aberdeen I seem to end up in a fairly rotten selection of boozers, places that I'd be unlikely ever to step foot in if it wasn't for the dandies. Looking forward to our trip to hamilton for some new pre-match dive. -
