  1. To be fair there are plans to merge the 3 organisations (along with a pyramid and shake up of youth football) but it'll never happen overnight. But even with all the vested interests the sfa have had major structural change in the last year or so with a lot of committees etc streamlined or voted out of existence. They are trying.
  2. You can lobby club chairmen all you want but it is the spl board not the eleven teams that decide whether the hun's spl shares can be transferred to NewCo. They aren't in the scottish league would have to apply to join to make up the numbers if everyone shuffled up a place if the spl didn't accept them back in. For all the correctly directed anger and disbelief this isn't really without precedent given the scandal of 2p in the pound fc that are as good as qualified for europe, twice in administration jute fc and airdrie who went bust and bought there way back into the league (similar to what the huns want to do)
  3. All the eggs in one basket it would seem. I must say I like the suggestion they won't be able to play all their fixtures
  4. The only other occasion that Aberdeen have met Motherwell at the quarter final stage of the Scottish Cup was back in 1975 when the Steelmen came north and won 1-0. It was a huge blow to the Dons who had previously knocked out both Rangers and Dundee Utd away from home to reach the last eight. The first ever clash was away back in 1925 when Aberdeen had the likes of Wembley Wizard Alec Jackson in their side. The Black & Gold of Aberdeen prevailed on that occasion with a 2-1 replay win at Fir Park. The next time the sides met was just months before the outbreak of World War II in March 1939. Aberdeen had just switched to playing in their red shirts that season, and it took two tough semi final clashes at Ibrox to separate the sides, with Motherwell reaching the last cup final before the war. Aberdeen gained revenge of sorts in 1953 but they went about it the hard way. An incredible 5-5 draw at Pittodrie was followed by a sensational 6-1 win for the Dons at Motherwell. The Steelmen were cup holders and determined to hold on to their title. Aberdeen went 5-3 ahead when Rodger shot wide from close range to make it six. The visitors came back and snatched an unlikely draw when Cox made it 5-5 with seconds left. In the replay Aberdeen swept aside their hosts with a four goal salvo in the first half. There was no way back for Motherwell on that occasion, the watching Hibernian players in the stands were impressed as they awaited the Dons in the next round. It was in 1982 that the quickest ever goal in the cup was scored by Aberdeen's John Hewitt in a third round tie at Fir Park. Aberdeen had not played for several weeks due to the harsh winter and the goal in 9.6 seconds was enough to set Aberdeen up for an ultimate victory in the cup that season. The Steelmen gained revenge on Aberdeen in 1991 as they stunned the Dons at Pittodrie. Aberdeen were cup holders on that occasion and a Steve Kirk goal put cup favourites Aberdeen out at the first stage of their defence. Motherwell went on to win the cup that year. The last time the sides met was in 1996 and a convincing Aberdeen performance in front of the Sky cameras saw Aberdeen go through with goals from Duncan Shearer and Dean Windass in a 2-0 win.
  5. ah but don't forget, on account of them being shit, they don't have a game this weekend.
  6. I'm amazed this is still going on and looks like it will for a few more days. Do the administrators not have a duty to the creditors and every day the waste discussing deals with the players are they not increasing the debt they are trying to clear?
  7. STV now saying on Scotland Tonight that the administrators are now saying no deal has been reached with the players and are now predicting mass redundancies (again). They haven't half strung this out.
  8. Interesting point from Shiels, which although about NI is probably relevant to Scottish football. Commented that he would be at courses for coaches to gain their badges etc where they would learn about passing, technique, tactics etc then he would watch the same coaches in the Irish League at the weekend and it would be all hoof and chase.
  9. Rip it up and start again. Wasn't overly impressed with last nights programme, didn't really shine any new light on the issues with Scottish Football; poor technique, effort over skill and competition over development at Youth level and all that on the back of a crazy top heavy system of administration and a chronic lack of facilities. Good to hear about the new National Academy set up and the links with schools but all of this is at least 20 years later than it could have been.
  10. Looks like County are sewing up the 1st Division championship. 3-0 win vs Thistle tonight putting them 9pts clear of Falkirk and still a game in hand. At the other end of the table our Cup foes QotS look in serious trouble. Also win for Elgin tonight who are, unbelievably, looking good for a play off place
  11. Only 1700 tickets sold! Come on Red Army! This could be the last meaningful game of the season so get off those armchairs and head to Motherwell!
  12. Vernon - yet again he's shown himself to be a proven goal scorer and no doubt would have scored more if he had the service Arnie - composed, class in the middle of the park. Slight dip in form for a few weeks but back on it again and a cut above the rest of the team Jack - superb season, rarely puts a foot wrong, no matter where he plays. Superb attitude to the game to go with his skill and endeavour and came out with the right sound bites when he signed a new contract. Consi - Good season, made himself first choice at CB and has done ok when asked to play at LB. Still prone to the odd rush of blood to the head but even managed to play 90mins vs celtic. Osbourne - some good games but some not quite so good ones too. Added real bite to our midfield and the kind of player we've missed for years. Out injured for a while so probably out of this race. As everyone will vote Arnie, I'm going for Jack.

  14. No mention of Rory claiming number one spot? And looks like Woods could be hitting form again this year
  15. Just realised Gavin Rae will be cup tied for this Perhaps shift Jack into the middle with Arnie and play two wingers....I know, crazy talk.
  16. I thought it was a good battling performance. We created some good chances and on a better day would have won. Celtic were poor but that shouldn't take away from the Dons performance, especially second half. Too much negativity expressed in this thread, I enjoyed yesterdays game and am pleased with the performance and result. We could do better, of course we could, and Brown needs to explain why he brought in Chalali and Ucechi if they are going to play second fiddle to the likes of Fallon and on current form Fyvie. No real complaints about the rest of the team however and although this season will be played out in the bottom six I'm looking hopefully toward next season.
