  1. Cracking evening. First half, it looked like Jim Goodwin had, for once, actually thought of some tactics. Perhaps his entire Aberdeen tenure was all about learning how to beat us when he took over his next club. United played a high defensive line, squeezed our midfield, who all just clumped together with no outlet. At the other end everything went through Fletcher, who thankfully couldn't finish and didn't have anyone capable of playing off him. That, though, was the height of Goodwin's management skills. Not a bad plan A - but as Robson made changes and was constantly shouting, tinkering, and eventually turned the game in our favour, Goodwin stood with his arms folded and hoped for the best. Clarkson a massive part of that win tonight. Mackenzie too I thought was excellent, both at left back and then in the back three. Criticism of Shinnie harsh - thought all the midfield struggled in the first half due to the congestion but he was always getting stuck in. Support was brilliant tonight, although the stuff thrown at Goodwin was out of order. It went from pantomime booing at the start which Goodwin himself laughed at to things landing next to him. Ryan Duncan too was almost hit by a flare after the first goal. That coupled with there being a bit of trouble outside is why we can't have nice things - it'll just put the brakes on the 6pm kick-offs which, having been at all three Aberdeen/United fixtures this season, I'm a big fan of.
  2. If I wanted the job, but wasn't confident I was going to get the job, I wouldn't give a straight answer either.
  3. But going by Burrows, they expect to have a shortlist within 48 hours. You wouldn't put together a shortlist then wait 3-4 months to see how the interim does. Robson might be on that shortlist. Me personally I hope he is as I'm quite content with him getting the job. But I just get the impression they think a lot of him, potentially want him as part of the management team, but don't want to actually give him the keys yet. Which is fine as long as the fella getting those keys isn't Neil Lennon or Jack Ross.
  4. https://redtv.afc.co.uk/video/7435 An update from Alan Burrows. In short, the club has a big list of names, they're going to whittle that down to a shortlist in the next 48 hours. Spoke some kinds words about Barry Robson but reading between the lines it sounds like win, lose or draw on Saturday, he won't be permanent boss.
  5. Have to try and keep myself grounded, otherwise I'll develop an ego and no-one wants that.
  6. Am I correct in thinking the last time we win at Tannadice, Barry Robson played in the game? Simon Church winner in 2016? Unless there's one I'm missing since then (granted they were in the Championship for four years).
  7. According to Goodwin he only got sacked because of one bad week at Aberdeen. Aye, before that week you were absolutely smashing it son.
  8. So Jim Goodwin expected to be in charge of Dundee United on Saturday. If we lose then I think we need to accept we've been cursed forever.
  9. Was quite taken by AZ Alkmaar's stadium when Dundee United played there earlier in the season. Great example of a small stadium still being imposing with high stands. They've recently increased capacity from 17,000 to 19,500 pretty easily by just having to add seats to the front of the stands, where the first row had been high up. Would suit us nicely.
  10. Over 3,000 tickets sold for the away end already. Imagine we were actually half decent. Would keep the same team that started v Livi.
  11. I'm taking my dad to this game. His last Aberdeen game was the 1994 Scottish Cup semi-final, which happened to also be against Dundee United. His last game at Pittodrie was Willie Miller's testimonial. If Aberdeen are crap I fear he may finally chuck going to the football.
  12. Considering the poor run we've been on, Robson clearly asked the players to focus on the basics - up the tempo, get fired into challenges, defend and show some desire. They did that and won. It'll take a lot longer to mould them into a more attractive style, and it might be a new man in a week or two tasked with doing that anyway.
  13. Not too far off the Loirston plans (inside at least).
  14. Enjoyed that. Played at a good pace, matched Livingston's physicality, got bodies in the way to defend. A lot of good individual performances, in particular MacDonald, Mackenzie, Shinnie, McCrorie and Duk. Also Ramadani - who I criticise a lot - was much improved today too. Could have created more clear cut chances I guess if you're looking for areas to improve on, but today was about getting the basics right and getting the three points.
  15. Looks like a 4-3-3, Duncan very advanced on the right. Got a feeling we're gonna pump them.
  16. If that is a 4-4-2 diamond, the king of formations, then Robson should be given the job now. If it's 4-3-3 then let's wait until half-time at least.
  17. To be fair, 50% of the defenders playing tomorrow are only culpable for a handful of those 51 goals.
  18. Are you trying to suggest I have taken a quote out of context and made a sensational headline from it? If so you'd be correct. I've made a career out of it.
  19. You've given me great idea for an article (clickbait). Talking of false 8s, I see Connor Barron is out for a month with a groin strain. Not ideal.
  20. Very touching tribute there seabass..
  21. It's part of the new Barry Robson era.
  22. It is, it's known as a 4-3-3. If you look again it could be a 4-1-4-1, as Coulson probably wouldn't be that far advanced. It'll be interesting for sure, because he was hamstrung in his first three games by personnel missing. This is the first time he has the options to actually decide how he wants to set his team up.
  23. Think just one look at the quarter final line-up in 83 shows how strong the competition was. Real Madrid Barcelona Internazionale Bayern Munich PSG Austria Vienna Waterschei And the Dandies. Barcelona the holders from 82. Juventus would win it 84. By 99 it wasn't the same because of the Champions League expansion, but before 1992 no-one was underestimating it.
  24. Clarkson slightly further forward than that, but aye that team would spank Livi. Hope this Rodríguez fella is getting a stream of it.
