  1. Coulson & Barron out. Clarkson & Kennedy doubts. Mackenzie been in full training all week. For me, get Mackenzie in at LB, Scales to CB, McCrorie into midfield. Hayes bound to start after all the build up to this being his 300th game. Morris I imagine will start too. Wouldn't have many complaints with this team.
  2. Poor Cormack gets blamed for everything.
  3. Yes, it takes time to gel. But Goodwin is making little effort to do that by firing out different selections that he likely has little interest in sticking with long term. When Mackenzie is fully fit, and when Coulson returns, McCrorie will likely be in midfield. Why not play him there now and work on that? We weren't that short that McCrorie had to be there. Goodwin will argue that having Scales at left-back led to the equaliser as it was his cross for Miovski, but he was signed as a centre half, that's where he'll be playing most of the season, so play him there and develop the Scales-Stewart partnership. It now means we go to St Johnstone, off the back of a bad result, with what will be another unfamiliar line-up.
  4. He scored the second goal.
  5. Apparently Stephen Glass applied for the Motherwell job, so we could have been lining up against him this weekend had the Fir Park board gone a different way. Anyway, I'd go for this today. Maybe that front three could be shifted around a little with Duk and Besuijen playing wide, but I like that midfield three of Clarkson-Ramadani-McCrorie.
  6. McCrorie should be utilised as a box to box midfielder, which I don't think any of the other midfielders would do as effectively. He's quick, can score goals, and can get back and defend too. Without him our midfield can become a lot more pedestrian. He's the player to set the tempo. Completely wasted in defence (Glass) and wasted sitting as a deep defensive midfielder (McInnes). He's been wasted the past two seasons really and I'd go as far as to say he's regressed from the player we signed, which is criminal, as I don't think the blame is all his. What Goodwin needs to do is work out how to accommodate McCrorie, Ramadani, Barron and Clarkson all into midfield.
  7. Agree with all this except I'd like to see Watkins start. However, I fear he's one of the ones who'll be leaving soon.
  8. M See Ronan (and I know this is the wrong thread but means I can pretend I never said it if we do sign him), but honestly, just end the chase for him now. He wants to stay at Wolves, and he has little interest in us and clearly would be here for a season at most so no buy option on him. Spending all summer chasing some fairly decent player who did alright for St Mirren - give me strength. Clarkson and Barron can both play as advanced midfielders, as can Vinny. Get us a left sided central defender and lock the chequebook away before Goodwin signs another winger.
  9. If Coulson is injured, do you think it's likely Scales will now continue at left back, McCrorie centre half and Clarkson in midfield? I don't see Goodwin bringing Mackenzie back in and dropping one of them. If he did, Clarkson would be the most likely candidate, but how do you drop him after yesterday?
  10. A clip of it with analysis from Foster & McFadden has been scheduled for the BBC website & Twitter at 6pm. Subtitles added too as a bonus.
  11. Jim Goodwin trolling half of Donstalk yesterday...
  12. You're a week early. It's Motherwell next - we'll all be saying that for real in seven days.
  13. Having seen how poor Charles Dunne was today, I retract any statements I have previously made about us signing him.
  14. Ramirez spent most of the League Cup group stage blowing sitters - against Raith Rovers in particular. Only have three substitute "moments" though. Coulson sub Ramirez/Duk double sub And Roberts coming on for Kennedy.
  15. Almost impossible trying to guess the team with all the signings we've made. Mackenzie & Barron out but everyone else ready to rock and roll. I'll take a stab at Roos Richardson Stewart Scales Coulson McCrorie Ramadani Roberts Vinny Hayes Miovski Morris & Leighton to start this one on the bench.
  16. Can he play LCB? Good to see a great historic name like Leighton rather than Jayden, Hayden or Shayden. If he's any good hopefully it's a Dylan Levitt situation and we can snap him up permanently. Jurgen Klopp owes us one after Danny Ward.
  17. Yeh in 36 games last season, 33 of them were at right wing. Truth be told, can't remember where he played when he was introduced on Sunday.
  18. As a proponent of a 4-4-2 diamond, I'd actually like to see him alongside McCrorie with Ramadani behind them, the sparkling No10 in front of them, and two up front. Coulson and Richardson could overlap and provide the width. Doubt we'd ever lose a game again to be honest.
  19. So now that Morris is here (and as pointed out by Manc_Don, Kennedy can play left too) our squad depth is:- GK: Lewis, Roos LB: Coulson, Mackenzie, Hayes LCB: Scales (McCrorie I guess) RCB: Stewart, Bates, McCrorie, Milne RB: Richardson, McCrorie CM: Ramadani, McCrorie, Polvara, Barron AM: Barron, Besuijen LW: Hayes, Watkins, Coulson, Miovski, Besuijen, Kennedy RW: Morris, Roberts, Kennedy, Duk, McLennan, Duncan, Miovski, Besuijen CF: Miovski, Ramirez, Duk, Morris, Harvey So, first choice XI and first choice back ups? Left sided defender and Connor Ronan and I'm happy.
  20. If Morris signs here's our squad depth... GK: Lewis, Roos LB: Coulson, Mackenzie, Hayes LCB: Scales (McCrorie I guess) RCB: Stewart, Bates, McCrorie, Milne RB: Richardson, McCrorie CM: Ramadani, McCrorie, Polvara, Barron AM: Barron, Besuijen LW: Hayes, Watkins, Coulson, Miovski, Besuijen RW: Morris, Roberts, Kennedy, Duk, McLennan, Duncan, Miovski, Besuijen CF: Miovski, Ramirez, Duk, Morris, Harvey Even if Duncan & McLennan leave on loan we're still heavily stacked at RW. Add that Hayes can actually play there too.
  21. We're still linked with Shayden Morris. Is it just me that would rather we didn't sign another winger? We just seem to be stockpiling them. Hayes, Kennedy, Roberts, Besuijen, Miovski, Duk, McLennan, Duncan, Watkins all capable of playing there. Coulson too can play left wing. Duncan will likely go on loan, McLennan too. I think it would be a real shame if the arrival of another winger spelled the end of Watkins who I think is a good player who provides a different option. Fitness was always his issue but so far he seems to be fine and has featured in all the League Cup games. For me, the problem on Sunday was the lack of someone able to take the ball in the centre of midfield and set the tempo (McCrorie our only option it seems) and a N.10 (Barron perhaps, but can't overplay the lad). Priorities for me are left sided central defender and a Number 10. Fair enough if Morris comes in and is the best winger at the club, but then why sign the others guys? We shouldn't be signing 10 players and still saying we're short in key areas.
  22. Dundee United have "pipped" Aberdeen to Jamie McGrath, it seems. Genuinely not arsed on account it was a loan deal, which would have been our third. Although I will be arsed if we don't sign Connor Ronan or someone as good as him.
  23. By the way, did the referee (on the orders of Sky no doubt) wait until Celtic had finished singing YNWA before starting the game? At the time I thought it was a hell of a long wait, and having just watched a replay we actually stood there letting them sing their song before we were allowed to get going. Dunno if this link will work but: https://vm.tiktok.com/ZMNqSUMdm/?k=1
  24. We had, I think, eight players who had never played against Celtic away before in the starting line-up. Add to that we are at least three players short of our strongest XI (Scales, Barron and someone of the ilk of Connor Ronan all go into that side, and McCrorie also improves the midfield). Therefore, the hope is today was the worst we'll play all season and it's only improvement from here. We were shell shocked in the first 30 minutes, but actually could have been level at half-time. And you have to say that we generally defended quite well, besides the obvious mistakes that cost us. Another team crumbles - and I don't just mean a Motherwell or Hearts. Let's not forget Rangers were 3-0 down at Celtic Park under similar pressure. My biggest concern about the whole game was actually how little we offered in the second half. We ran out of ideas, the story of the last four years. Again, caveat above about not being full strength, but St Mirren up next. While they're no Celtic, they're no Raith Rovers either.
