  1. Looks like the boys had a little help to gee them up.... http://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/andy-considine-derek-mcinnes-worked-6091067 DEREK McINNES pulled off a managerial masterclass to wreck Rijeka – but it was a Croatian journo who provided his team talk. Andy Considine revealed it was team-mate Shay Logan’s run-in with a local hack that made the Dons doubly determined to do a number on the cocky Croats. Logan had a spiky pre-match press conference with the Rijeka media then clashed with one of them pitchside on the eve of Thursday night’s game. The bust-up got back to the dressing room – and it managed to inspire the Reds to a memorable European win. Aberdeen withstood brutal temperatures to clobber the Croats 3-0 and move within touching distance of the Europa League third qualifying round for the second year on the trot. Boss McInnes got his tactics spot on as his side survived an early onslaught from the Croatians before running riot in a vintage performance. But defender Considine admitted they had the hapless hack to thank for firing up the Reds to go marching on. The 28-year-old – who grabbed the first goal of an incredible night – said: “One of the Croatian press guys went at Shay big time the day before the game. “He said to Shay, ‘Don’t you dare come here and win.’ He told him there was no chance we would win, stuff like that. It was a bit off to be honest. “Shay came in and told us what was said – it did rile us up a bit. There was no need for it.” Aberdeen’s incredible display even had the locals on their feet applauding at the end. Considine was convinced the Dons could do a number on the Croatians – but he didn’t expect to dish out a Balkans battering. Rijeka’s scenic stadium has been a fortress in recent seasons – with Lyon, Feyenoord and Sevilla all struggling at the Kantrida. But Aberdeen blew them away to all but guarantee a slot in round three – where a clash with either St Johnstone’s conquerors Alashkert or FC Kairat from Kazakhstan awaits. It would take a catastrophic collapse to deny them now but Considine insists there can be no let up in next week’s return. He said: “The gaffer mentioned Rijeka’s results in the Europa League beforehand and we knew they would be a great scalp “To come away three up was amazing. We all believed we could get a result but to win 3-0 was a heck of a feat. “They hadn’t lost at home in Europe for 12 games. “They’ve got the better of some seriously good teams during that time. When you look at it like that it’s an even better result. “It’s still only half-time though. There is a lot to play for. “We need to be on our toes in the home leg – just like we were the other night. We have to be bang at it to get the job done on Thursday. Hopefully there will be a full house at Pittodrie. “The fans who went to Croatia were fantastic. We owe them thanks but hopefully we can get a few more goals and get the job finished back home. “It will be another tough game. If we can get though we will be seeded in the next round so it could be really exciting.” Considine admitted the stunning win was all the more impressive given the torturous conditions in Croatia. The scorching heat was almost unbearable and it was still 30-odd degrees Celsius when the game kicked off at 9pm. The Dons were given the green light by UEFA to have a couple of water breaks – which was just as well as Considine and Co were sweating buckets. The ploy paid off and the stopper reckons the victory was as good as any he has been involved in during his 11 years at Pittodrie. The long-serving stalwart was part of side that got through to the UEFA Cup group stage in season 2007-08 by blasting past Ukrainian outfit Dnipro. After drawing with Lokomotiv Moscow and beating Copenhagen, Jimmy Calderwood’s side marched on to the last 32, where they lost out to Bayern Munich. Aberdeen drew 2-2 with the German giants in the home leg but Thursday’s Rijeka ram raid might just have topped the lot, given the conditions they played in. Considine said: “It was horrible out there. Those were the worst conditions I have ever played in. I don’t know what it was like for the people in the stands but it was very tough on the pitch. “We you look at all that, it just shows how good a result it was. “We’ve managed a few good ones over the years but this was right up there. Rijeka have such a strong record at home. “The Groningen game was tough last year but this side were a step up and there was the heat to take into consideration. “But the experience of last year helped us. We know when to attack and when to defend. The gaffer learned from last year as well and it paid dividends. “The first 10 minutes were a bit of a nightmare. They came at us thick and fast. They had a few chances and hit the post. “The water break came at a good time for us. The gaffer said a few things and we sorted it out. We calmed down and started passing the ball. “There was a huge difference. It was great to get the goal. “The entire team defended really well and it’s a superb result to take into the second leg. “The clean sheet was just as pleasing. If they had nicked one it could have opened the floodgates. You never know what can happen when you go to places like that. “We showed them a lot of respect and likewise they showed us respect. Their manager said we taught them a lesson but it was about us taking our chances. “We were solid. They had some tricky players in midfield but the boys did well to snuff them out. “As long as we play like that again next week then we can look forward to the next round.”
  2. Just had a look at their Wiki page. Gerard Gohou has scored 30 goals in 32 matches...
  3. Not sure if said before, but Craig Murray has joined East Fife on a free. I don't know anything really about him.
  4. Good post, Tom Some big teams in that list.
  5. He must have taken a fair pay cut after being with Servco. Thank fuck, he never came here!
  6. No being funny, but who was the keeper when we went on the run of unbeaten games?
  7. I think the only banks through all the shit to make money was the Australian banks. Our PM at the time gave everyone 400 pounds into their bank accounts to keep everything going. It worked... Funny as that seems.. But now, with a far right government... We are fucked. The man in charged is the scum of this earth. And that's nothing to do with my political standing. He thinks wind farms are way more a blot on the landscape that coal powered power stations.... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rgnut6MpsK0
  8. Let me know how It goes guys. I just bought BeIN sports over here to get the chance of a Dons game. Not sure how Red Tv will come over on my TV here.
  9. And say It was Jack, that would being going backward....
  10. One thing, though...why another midfielder in getting Ness? Someone would have to be leaving, surely?
  11. :o .....if it happens.
  12. Looks like It's Gordon Marshall. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-3137418/Aberdeen-replace-long-serving-goalkeeping-coach-Jim-Leighton-former-Celtic-stopper-Gordon-Marshall.html Thoughts? A good one, personally.
  13. They seem....interesting.
  14. I've been hearing that their fans are a bit hardcore and don't like away fans much....
  15. That sounds a rather good deal If you're a rich cunt.
  16. Anyone know anything about him?
  17. Ornette Coleman gone today as well. http://www.nytimes.com/2015/06/12/arts/music/ornette-coleman-jazz-saxophonist-dies-at-85-obituary.html

    BT TV

We have Foxtel over here, which shows the EPL games. So many people have left Foxtel that they had to drop their prices to $25 for the standard pack and an extra $25 for the sports pack. So that works out to be about 25 pounds a month. It used to be around $100 for the same thing about six months ago.

    Heysel,

Canny believe it's been 30 years. This is a good read. Phil Neal comes over as a cunt. The thought of a football match going on as bodies are scattered over the place is just unreal. http://www.theguardian.com/football/2005/apr/03/newsstory.sport
  24. And I recommend Andrew Jennings book " FOUL! The Secret World of FIFA: Bribes, Vote-Rigging and Ticket Scandals". It goes into how corrupted some in FIFA are. A good read.
  25. I can't stand Blatter. I hope that all that he has done catches up with him. It looks like it's mainly ones who are involved with CONCACAF who have been arrested, which is why I think the yanks can get to them. FIFA needs a clean out from the very bottom, and the longer Blatter is in charge, It will only get worse.
