Being just slightly too young to see Rougvie in the flesh for us, I was delighted to see him play against the huns in the Masters Tournament several years ago at Braehead Arena. Hateley was lording it there, lapping up the spastics appreciation everytime he touched the ball. He rather stupidly went wide towards the hoardings and big Doug followed, Hateley got the ball and tried to turn him, Doug just stood there and Hateley clattered into the boards before falling on his face. He stood up, looking to square up, Rougvie just stood there laughing at him. No Dons player went up. Several huns went up to pull Hateley away. And the vision of big Rougvie pointing at hateley and saying "I'll fucking have you" will stay with me for a long time. Hateley gave a matey laugh to Rougvie.. about ten seconds later the ball came to Hateley and big Doug cemented him. We celebrated as if we'd just won the league. Small pleasures, eh?

I agree with this. When I've seen him this season, he's looked uninterested at times and at other times he's looked superb and then looked crap within seconds of that. None of that really matters as long as he continues to find the net and win us points. He is a player we need, someone who knows where to run in the penalty box. Something we've not had for years.

The above pic is being used for the Guardian's Minute By Minute report of the Utd-Liverpool game and someone emailed into them to ask "who is the large breasted player standing behind Dalglish in your picture?" And, as I suspected... "The player featured in the lead photo and referred to as large breasted in your coverage is - I think - the one and only Doug Rougvie - known as the beast of Stamford Bridge throughout the second half of the 1980s," writes Peter Dickinson. "He was a former Aberdeen star under Ferguson, if I remember rightly, and the kind of ridiculously violent footballer which the game sadly lacks today. He could also play a bit and was generally a hero from an era when Chelsea were actually a team rather than an oligarch's yacht club deposit."
-
The thing is though, how can they punt Torres when he isn't performing? He's now on game 99 of his fitness comeback... They need him to start performing in the second half of the season otherwise he's worth next to fuck all to what he was 18 months ago. And Gerrard.. cracking player, but he's past his peak probably. How much will you get for him now? He's so ingrained in Liverpool's ways now, I don't know if he's worth the risk; there must be better options out there. Maybe he's just destined to play out his days at Anfield.

Yeah, I give Ferdinand some amount of stick but he has played very well today, as did Evans, amazingly enough.
-
Giggs' run right after the re-start was superb, back to the mid-nineties with that run.

Been subbed for David MmmBop. Owen on for United, it would make me LOL OUT LOUD if he scored, fair amount of venom coming his way from the Scoreboard End.

Shows how bad we've been when a 6 goal victory only brings our average up to 1 per game. -
I don't know, I like both of them, I think Kenny is quite dry witted and I like that about him as it appeals to my sense of humour but that was a pretty low thing to say and do. But we all do things we regret in life.

There was also the incident recalled by Gareth Southgate before the match: After a 'Pool United game, Fergie was being interviewed by the TV crews, Dalglish was walking behind them with one of his daughters who was a toddler at the time, Dalglish said "You'd get more sense interviewing my daughter than him".
-
I didn't think it was a penalty either. Definite red card and I thought that before seeing the replay, fuck knows what game Tyldsley and Beglin are watching. Going by Dalglish's reaction upon seeing the replay he thought it was red too. United were bad enough at that point without adding him to the mix!
-
Goes back to their time with Scotland. When Fergie was assistant to Jock Stein and Scotland were playing Wales, Fergie asked the Liverpool players for input on how to deal with Ian Rush. Dalglish said "aye, he's a good player" and refused to offer anything else because of this Liverpool code of conduct pish. Ferguson was far from impressed, and when it came to Mexico 86 and Dalglish was struggling with injury, Fergie didn't take him. More or less stems from that.
-
My theory why the famous Liverpool fans' patience went out the window with Hodgson: He's mates with Fergie. Rafa made an utter cunt of it, but after his rant at Fergie he garnered more and more support even though he was making a bigger and bigger cunt of it on the park. They've now got a manager who doesn't really have much time for Fergie, they'll be delighted and it'll go back to being the board's fault now.

ooof! 3-1!
-
what a goal from Barton
-
I wasn't saying Merson wasn't right. Johnson is fucking ding.
-
I'm not sure I'd trust him to out-do Stelling either to be honest...
-
Bit harsh to single out Merson as Le Tissier also ripped Johnson as did Stelling. Still, if you're going to give it out etc...
-
bench: Howard, Vujadinovic, Pawlett, Ifil and Magennis.
-
Aberdeen : Langfield, McArdle, McNamee, Hartley, Diamond, Considine, Jack, Young, Maguire, Vernon, Aluko.
-
I've taken them -1 in a double with Aberdeen -2 , double pays 6/1, single for Aberdeen -2 is 13/8

Totally, and the momentum for Kenny to be put in charge on a permanent basis will gather. It would probably do Liverpool and Dalglish more good however if they get an absolute pumping, in a perverse way (much the same as Brown and Knox being at Tynie for our pummelling). Can't see Dalglish standing for some of the dingles in that squad, severe drop off in quality from his last time at Anfield.

bet he starts with a win tomorrow They're (rightly) ripping into the players on Soccer Saturday just now.
