Comparing the ECWC team with today's footballers
BobbyBiscuit replied to Kowalski's topic in Aberdeen Football Club
Carrick can't tackle. Cooper couldn't pass it as well as Carrick. -
Every single one of us here has invested a lot of money, time, effort and probably most of all emotion in supporting Aberdeen. I would never dream of telling another Dons fan of how they should support the club. Instead of telling us what we should be doing, why don't you start something, and see how many follow?
-
Crikey.

Perhaps bear that in mind when telling the rest of us to waken up then, eh? Cheers.

You're also conveniently forgetting the fact that not everyone has the same opinion of the man or his leadership as you do. As potty as that sounds, it is very much fact. So, ok, I take your point. We have to make Milne realise he is unpopular (even though you admit yourself he is made aware of this). Do you really think, after all these years, he gives a fuck whether he is unpopular or otherwise? I've been there when he's been abused by fans in stadium car parks, he has overseen the least successful period in the club's history post war both on the pitch and off it, the stadium is crumbling and on and on and on... Milne is many, many things, but he's not stupid. He knows fine well how unpopular he is. Standing outside the mainstand shouting for him to Get to Fuck will not faze him. Neither will unfurling a flag with a similar message in the South Stand. We've done it before and we're still here saying the same things about him. I'm not for a second saying you shouldn't sew the seeds of revolution - i'm all for it - and maybe I am apathetic (it's hard not to be after all these years) but let's also have a bit of realism about it eh? If there's one thing that will kill enthusiasm it's charging on with something without realistically thinking it through, and then when nothing changes, the enthusiasm wanes, and if anything ever brings on apathy, it is certainly that scenario.

No offence man, but this is hardly news to any of us. The problem isn't just Stewart Milne, it's the board itself. The board are apathetic (Martin Gilbert doesn't even bother going to the matches anymore), and because they are, Milne will likely be voted in for the forseeable future. If you are expecting the fans to club together then it's a lovely idea, but essentially we need someone like Jim Cummings to head this up, someone with the wealth behind him and the appropriate experience. Considering the economic climate at present, and the fact it is only likely to get worse with unemployment expected to rise in the coming months/years, where do you expect people to get the cash together not only to continue paying the abhorrent £20+ just for a match ticket every week, but also to contribute sizeable amounts of cash to take part control of a football club that is millions of pounds in debt and which will never make a return on your money? It's a lovely idea, but people have mortgages, families etc which have to come first. It's fuck all to do with anyone having to waken up. No one is under any sort of illusion that the current predicament is ideal, but without wealthy backers, at this point in time in particular, it is a non starter.

88 to the start of 1990 Leighton did well for United and I know one United supporting sports journalist who ranks him ahead of Schmeichal because of his performances in that time behind an ever changing, ever shit United defence.

Still is.

Is it any wonder that people like myself feel so disconnected to this team? If what is going on at Celtic Park is of so much concern to you that you feel the need to make your pointless wishes for them so public, maybe it's better you save all of us a lot of time now and just fuck off. I've never questionned Zander's commitment to the team, but these lads haven't even started and Dons fans will already be suspicious of them - rightly or wrongly. Maybe this is the result of them not growing up in a time when the Dons were a force. Maybe if they had they'd respect the club and it's fans more and realise what brilliant possibilities there are for them. Let's face it, footballers have never been overly furnished in the brain department, but this comes across as not just stupidity but that they just don't give a fuck. We've had enough players like that in the past 15 years.

Zander Diamond's Report Card
BobbyBiscuit replied to bloo_toon_red's topic in Aberdeen Football Club
Take it this is the Spazbook thing? Intelligence matters in every position. See also; Maguire, Chris -
I get your point but having eleven poster boys in our team isn't realistic. Who does have 11 poster boys? Barcelona? Maybe. Real Madrid? Possibly. Chelsea? Man Utd? No, unless you count Jon Obi Mikel and John O'Shea as poster boys. If we could have say, 5 guys like that and fill the rest of the team with technically sound, solid players then that'd be a huge step forward. For every Hans Gillhaus and Charlie Nicholas you still need Brian Grant and Stewart McKimmie, ye know?

Red card was a hellishly poor decision. Why did none of our players get in the face of that prick Tokely when he took out Megginson? Bet you Hartley would have.

If Our Manager Wasn't Mark McGhee...
BobbyBiscuit replied to BobbyBiscuit's topic in Aberdeen Football Club
Wait there... I've thought about it. You're right. We should have won the league in those years and qualified for the CL just like Copenhagen because let's face it there was nothing really holding us back from doing that. Poor show AFC, poor show. No, seriously. -

Ahh. Sorry. Did I say that? Silly me. -
If Our Manager Wasn't Mark McGhee...
BobbyBiscuit replied to BobbyBiscuit's topic in Aberdeen Football Club
Not really a viable comparison though is it? Copenhagen don't have the Old Firm to contend with domestically. -
would he have been binned last season, or even this season? Or would he be the subject of serious abuse from supporters if he hadn't been such a great player for us? I never wanted McGhee in, and I said on these pages that one of the reasons for that was that i couldn't stand the pain of seeing of one of our greatest ever players (that's something that will never change) leaving the club in such a sad way again. Willie Miller being sacked as manager was one of the saddest days as a Dons fan. But, I got pretty fed up last season, I know some were less patient in the length of time it took for them to get fucked off with him (i.e. pre season training, 2009 ) and the excuses just now are wearing thin... the results wore thin some time ago and as for selelction and tactics, well... I'm not calling for him to go, but he's not just drinking in the last chance saloon surely? They're calling time and putting the chairs up on the tables. We can't go on like this, legend or not, but where the fuck do we go from here whether he stays or not?

In fairness, kicking wasn't as important back then as far as keepers went. In saying that, if either of our keepers now were anywhere close to being as good as Leighton the issue of kicking wouldn't even come into it.

Just sorting out our goalkeepers would do me
