I think that Real have got a big psychological barrier to overcome tonight. It'll be at the back of their minds that they've gone out at this stage of the competition in each of the last five years. Fair enough mizer. I think we've been losing pockets of fans for years, going back ten years or more. I know a load of guys who just don't bother now. I went to Maryhill Juniors today rather than go to the Dons match. Just couldn't face it after last week's showing. At least I got to see a bit of aggression, fight and players who give a fuck today.

I can only assume this is almost a political move by MM in that he is almost frightened to leave one of them out for the effect it has on relations between him and the dressing room. That is a total guess right enough, but I'm running out of ideas of why he hasn't dropped both or at least one of them.

Before Wednesday's internationals, you could still get 40/1 for Gonzalo Higuain as top scorer at the World Cup, he's now down to 25's (generally). Still a good each way bet I'd imagine now that Maradona has actually realised Higuain is Argentinian and brilliant. David Villa still floating around the 9's and 10's mark, which is still fairly good value for a guy who is only 8 goals away from setting a national record in about 50 games less than Raul.

Bill Shankly said that for a team to have the right balance, it needed four violinists and seven road sweepers. If anyone has a fucking clue what he was talking about, let me know, eh?? No, in all seriousness, if Shankly is right, we need 4 guys who can create, score goals etc on a fairly frequent basis and 7 who can back them up, enable them to produce the bits of magic required to win us matches. I suppose a good example of his theory would be our team in 89-90, the violinists being Bett, Nicholas, Gillhaus and Mason perhaps, the defence did the dirty work in keeping out the opposition, Grant and Connor backed up the guys in front of them and their game enabled Bett and Mason to thrive. So, in the current side, do we have players who can claim to be "violinists"? In fact, do we have any who could claim to be adequate road sweepers?

There are ways of doing it though WR. Coming out and saying "Mackie was shite and Young was fucking ding" isn't really going to help anyone. Agree that there's no point in trying to tell the fans something they know is utter bollocks, but at the same time there has to be some degree of united front with the manager and his players. McGhee may well want shot of a lot of them, God knows the rest of us do, but he's got over two months of this season to go still. Things are going to be hard enough without further apparent divisions.

I've always thought that, the fact they're two of the most senior players in this side and two he considered giving the captaincy to right from the off suggests they may be two of the stronger characters in the dressing room. I don't need him or want him to slag them off in public, I just want them dropped, but if that was going to happen it would have happened by now I suspect. I don't like managers slagging and naming players in public, all that stuff should be kept in house in my opinion.
