Team of Two Decades - wing-backs
BobbyBiscuit replied to Reekie_Red's topic in Aberdeen Football Club
I thought that at the time, but then thought "surely no one would vote for him/them anyway. Surely?" -
McDonald, Kerr and Mulgrew have been carrying small knocks for the past couple of games or so, that's why he's thinking of resting them.
-
Only repeating what was reported man.
-
Ajja - Mulgrew and Diamond are two of the players reported to be rested, along with Aluko, Kerr and McDonald.

That lot howl at the moon most nights anyway...

Surely the idea of a "weakened" side is all subjective? What i may think is a weakened side you may think is actually a stronger side. We have a squad of players eligible to play in the league, MM can use that squad as and when he sees fit. It's not as if he'll be fielding the under 14s.

Some hun cunt: Doesn't matter a jot what you think our priority should be. The Aberdeen manager has to do what he thinks is best for Aberdeen FC. And going by some of the players who may be rested - thinking specifically of Kerr and McDonald - many would say we're actually strengthening the side. Well you are obviously biased towards the vermin otherwise you wouldn't be saying this. who mentioned bigotry? it protests too much.

just watched The Football Years which was about Scotland's 1982 World Cup Campaign. Only saw the last half an hour but that was pretty good in itself. On the clash with Hansen, Miller very diplomatically simply left it at "I shouted for it and I was going to put it out. But me and Hansen just couldn't play together. After that, it was going to be McLeish and Hansen or McLeish and me, and luckily Alan didn't play too much after that." Or words to that effect. No mentions of chippies, though...

Two great finishes from us. That's MacLean got off the mark and Paton should get a bit of confidence from what was a very good goal. What the fuck happened with Langfield at the first? Studs caught in the ground? And as for that penalty decision... quite possibly the softest award I've ever seen. Simply scandalous.

Of course it's depressing but it's a two way street. We can't just decide that Fraser Fyvie won't be sold and will stay with us forever. There has to be some level of reality in our thoughts. If he turns out to be as good as we think he could be, he'll grow out of our league unfortunately and will want to play for a bigger club in a better league. And unfortunately the best thing for us in this situation is to sell when we think the price is at its highest. There's nothing set in stone that we will lose these guys for a fraction of what they're worth. If, for example, we sold Fyvie in 3 years time for £5m with sell on clauses, appearance clauses etc... could we really say that isn't a good deal? Of course, we have fucked these things up in the past, but we look to be changing that around now with getting young players on good contracts, getting £600k for Lee Miller when he only had a contract with us til the summer. Things are shite at the moment, but I certainly don't see any positives from going into administration or being on the brink of relegation. Part of me wishes the board (i.e. Milne) would take a "speculate to accumulate" attitude by helping the manager out with considerable funds for new players. But another part of me knows where that could lead us. This is all probably for another thread right enough, but there's no quick solution to this, unless some kind soul donates £30m to us overnight.

I don't support my local team. I'm not sure how it's my fault Aberdeen are shit. Maybe I shouldn't have poured thousands of pounds into them over the years. That would certainly have helped, I'm sure. Yes, to the first question. The club is dying a painful death. Milne has chucked money at it in the past and it failed. So now we're going down the prudent route and the club is trundling along, but only just under the weight of debt on our shoulders. We have a chairman who is able to wipe this debt out but he chooses not to. His perogative, of course. It's his money after all. Just as it was his decisions that ultimately led us to this juncture. As for your second point, the question isn't whether the bottle is there or not, it's whether we have the money. Standing outside Pittodrie singing "Sack the Board" isn't going to do anything. Until someone comes up with the money to buy out his shareholding and can prove that they can take the club forward we are stuck with the guy, as much as it pains me to say it. It doesn't, but what do I know? I don't support my local team...

It is interesting that he uses Mackie as the example. Obviously Mackie is in a fairly good run of form so saying that we're booing the decision to take him off doesn't dent the confidence of the player. However, he's not mentioned specifically those players who were getting it in the neck and I suppose this is his way of defending them, and I think that's fair enough. The way he's said these things though is none too wise. He's desperate to succeed, but he has to keep in mind that those booing, whether they're right to or not, are just as desperate for us to succeed as he is.

Chris Crighton's take on Gary McDonald

That would mean he'd have to get a shot on target. I can't see that happening. -
Chris Crighton's take on Gary McDonald
BobbyBiscuit replied to BobbyBiscuit's topic in Aberdeen Football Club
Agree Al, but the one thing that McDonald has going for him is that he does occassionally get us a goal. For too much of the time this season I've been wondering what it is that Kerr brings to the table. Good player on his day, but his day seems to come along extremely infrequently these days, in particular since his rather volatile end to last season. Neither should be kept on at Pittodrie in my opinion. -

My tongue was firmly in cheek when mentioning those two imposters, Kow.

No Grant though Ray McKinnon or Peter Heatherston, anyone?
