McGhee's Comments ahead of Pre-Season Trip
BobbyBiscuit replied to BobbyBiscuit's topic in Aberdeen Football Club
Not sure about that MBT. I think there is a major imbalance with our first team. I think there are a handful of players - Langfield, Diamond, Kerr, McDonald, Aluko and Miller - who, in SPL terms I really wouldn't swap. The lads around them however, are maybe not up to the level we desire. Mulgrew can be a very good player when he can be arsed. Considine the same, but for different reasons. The nucleus of a good team is definitely there, and I'd be more than a little annoyed if we lost one of those players who I said I wouldn't swap (something I never thought I'd say about Langfield). -

I'm not sure really. If, and it is a big if, Dingus wants us playing 4-3-3, then Kerr behind McDonald and Hughes would be very, very good I think. I'd be very happy to see that midfield if that's the formation he wants to implement. that'd be as good a midfield as any in the country to be honest. Both Mcdonald and Hughes aren't really tacklers, but they're busy players and will close down and anticipate more than tackle which can be just as effective, a la Darren Fletcher. -

I can understand why it would happen, but I don't think it would be a fair representation of those arguing nor of the health of AFC be it under MM or, in a hypothetical scenario, under JC. In my opinon, we were getting to the stage where some folk were just taking the extreme opposing side from others simply because of who that poster was. Some were going to extremes they should never have visited just because they didn't want to be seen to be in the other's camp (or so it seemed). We all want the Dons to be succesful, I'm sure none of us want to get to the stage where we say "We told you so", there's no glory in that, even for those not over furnished in the brain department. (take note, Stoney ) -

Spot on mate. But it's going to happen. There are posters on here that if things don't go too well will say "It wouldn't have been like this under JC, hope you're all happy now etc" and there would be others going the other way should we get off to a flier. Achieves nothing, answers even less. -
Sounds good. Let's hope you find your sense of humour on your travels!

Yes. Any other daft questions? Last time I was at the Baltic Sea it really was living up to it's name. Where have you got to so far?

We need another midfielder, desperately. -

I haven't bought and I won't be buying one either. Took me 10mins to decipher what your question actually was in English. Will hopefully be getting to more games this season though, preferably at Pittodrie rather than giving my money to other clubs, but i'd imagine i'll be going to the games at Paisley and Kilmarnock

If it's January then, what the fuck is the point? We're back to square one in the space of 5 months with no compensation. Utterly ridiculous. However it is good to see that he has instantly recognised that our strikers are rather goal-shy.

I am presuming these are all songs by Elton John? As a heterosexual man, I wouldn't know. This thread sucks.

you're 60 and you're asking young lads for their autographs?
-
Did you get your photo taken with him too?
-
He's away finding himself, sticking it to the man and being the god damn coolest dude out there. He's a man of the world, don't you know? He's holidaying in Dundee.

Dundee Spend Equivalent of our Entire Budget on 1 Player

Crowds may go up but so will wages/bonuses. From an investment point of view the increased crowds probably wouldn't cover the jump in wages. -
P&J: McGhee in move for ex-Rangers forward

I'd forgotten about Steven MacLean, reckon he would be worth signing on loan. He's certainly proved he can score goals. -

Aberdeen player who died in the 80's
BobbyBiscuit replied to Bigal1903's topic in Aberdeen Football Club
I thought he was around 1995, not long after he got the captaincy? -
...from YouTube. Not watched it all yet, just putting it up for interest/discussion points: Part One Part Two

Aberdeen player who died in the 80's
BobbyBiscuit replied to Bigal1903's topic in Aberdeen Football Club
Possibly Gary Riddell. Had not long left us for Dunfermline when he passed away. Don't remember a first team player of ours dying in the 80s. -
We do need decent back up/competition for Langfield but if you were Smith would you sign for us? If you're an established first choice at one SPL club I don't see why you'd sacrifice that for the possibility of being on the bench every week. I would like to see us get him for the obvious reasons (even though he is a cock) I would just be majorly shocked if he wanted to come to us while Langfield is here. What age is Bateman? Any chance of him stepping up to second choice keeper? I would honestly put Leighton in goals ahead of Bossu. And Langfield actually... Are there any centre backs in the SPL available on Bosmans?
-
Mulgrew is lazy. Far too lazy to play centre midfield because he's simply not good enough for his laziness not to become an issue. I agree with TF in that we need players in every position. According to Redweb we have 10 midfielders in the first team squad. One of which is Severin, so that's nine and another is Jamie Smith, so that's eight. Then they're counting Nicky Clark, Peter Pawlett and Sammy Stewart bringing it down to five (although Pawlett I would imagine will be there or thereabouts). Our midfield options of established first team squad players is down to Kerr, McDonald, Aluko, Young and Duff. Young and Duff are filler, and in Young's case in particular that's probably above his station. So we have 3 players who we'd be comfortable with going into the first XI in Kerr, Mcdonald and Aluko. Still think we don't need midfielders?
-
By moving Mulgrew into the middle, do you mean midfield or centre half? Either way, I'd say no thanks. This theory about having a seperate formation for home and away matches is nonsense (no offence). Do we really need to set up with just one man up front away from home against Hamilton, St Johnstone et al? I would really hope we're better than that and that is exactly one of the reasons why people lost patience with JC. Needless tinkering and seemingly over thinking the situation - going to 3 at the back against Falkirk, for example. Play to your players strengths and consistently do so and we'll win more than we lose.
